I could be mistaken, but it seems that all three manufacturers were selling multiple millions of each console in the last quarter almost every year of this last generation in NA alone. Perhaps not quite two million by December 31st, but certainly by end of January.Reilly said:

I don't think the article should have been titled the 360 has already won. It should have been titled the 360 has the highest chance of winning in NA. Having Halo 3+ GTAIV + Madden, the three biggest game franchises in NA for $100-$200 less than the competition is a big, big, bonus.
This article, however, doesn't take into account that 5-6 years down the line, ps3 will still be on the market, at a $200 pricepoint, while the xbox 720 is at $400-$500.

I think you have to actually own a 360, like I do, to see where he comes from. His whole eco-system idea probably refers to the fact that I play with the console itself, the dashboard, the demos, the trailers, and the media capabilities just as much as I play with the 360 games. It's the console that I have owned that constantly gives me stuff to do, even if I don't have any games. The guy who wrote the articles is only speaking to the 360 demographic, but he isn't speaking bullshit.

I think Xbots have bought into their spin way too much. Two new consoles releasing this holiday WILL NOT help the 360 in sales. When PS3 sells out and if Wii sells out (depending on how many they actually ship) will not magically make the consumer buy a 360 they never planned on buying because they couldn't get their hands on one of the two. And to reiterate, TWO NEW CONSOLES LAUNCHING! That's twice the normal competition. No doubt GoW will sell well, but its going to sell well to current 360 owners. 360 will sell some this holiday, but don't get your hopes up in front of this onslaught.

You couldn't be more wrong. I worked in Electronics Boutique myself years ago, and if a system wasn't available that a consumer wanted, they immediately looked elsewhere for something to buy. No PS3s or Wiis DOES indeed benefit Microsoft if they have 360s available. We can argue about how much of a benefit it is, but I don't feel there are grounds for argument as to whether or not it is a benefit.

It all depends on how good Gears of War is, and I personally believe it will be a Halo caliber title to market the system with. Therefore 1.5 million will be a lock in December , and yes PS3 shortages will help the 360.

people who really want a PS3 and cant get a hold of it because of a shortage, they are not going the 2nd choice it and get a 360. If they really want a PS3, they will wait for the next shipment.
As for the Wii, I can place bets that it won't have any major shortage and people who are willing to buy one this Q4 will end up having one no problem.
Even hypothetically if the Wii had a shortage (unlikely), Wii anthusiasts wouldn't 2nd choice it with a 360 anyway

The launch system buyers already know the differences and don't care, they made their decisons on brand loyality and games (which is the main thing that makes consoles not comparable, I can't play Heavenly Sword or FFXIII on 360 and I don't care about GoW or Halo 3 for example). Christmas Shoppers trying to get a PS3 for little Jimmy are not looking for a 360, they are looking for a PS3, period. End of debate. They don't care if its comparable, its not a PS3 and they aren't going to drop $400 on something little Jimmy didn't ask for. They are going to hunt down Wal-mart, K-mart, Dillards, Sears and even ****ing walgreens to try and find one. And if they don't find it there? Well, theres a reason PS3's will be selling over a grand on eBay and wanting delivery before Christmas. All else fails they try to put a preorder down for one and set aside the money promising little jimmy one right after the holidays.
Seriously, those who have not worked retail or even game retail during the holidays need to just to see these crazy ass people in action.

As much as you might not like it, lots of people will want a PS3 because its a playstation. They don't have, or need, a reason. Perhaps they have a PS2 already, perhaps they just know the name.
Suffice to say they'll consider that the PS3 is the machine to own.
