go buy 3d Land.

I've got the pure white 3DS. It has 3D land on it at all times.

If I didnt't already own a 3DS I'd buy one if they announced every Wii VC NES and SNES titles would be available on 3DS.

I have no fucking idea what their dumb reasoning behind not doing it is.

They've had VC for years and have done absolutely shit all for it. And if they dumped all the games in one go or a few large segments then they could have weekly sales, daily sales, promotions, bundles, recommendations, subscriptions, there are a lot of ways to get people to buy things.

Except when you CAN'T buy anything.

They do do promotions and things like that when they release VC games (on the Wii U at least) like the Kirby promotion or the Mario Bros 2/SMW one. The problem is making sure all of these games work perfectly before they're released. Plus I believe they have to be rated also.

It is a shame though. I think a Netflix style subscription service would be fantastic.

My feeling is they'll do nothing and keep releasing obscure as shit GB/NES titles nobody asked for before they do something proactive like adding new platforms.

They're already doing that. :p

They've got about 6 months worth of Famicom games left to release. They'll have to do something.

i'm not convinced, the wii ran snes games no problem but don't emulators rely on brute cpu power, and a 266mhz arm11 is no match for the 733mhz broadway

Hell, the DS and PSP's SNES emulators worked fine. It's not like we're talking about N64 games here.

again there's working fine and working pretty much perfect

Because Nintendo.

Came to post this...

Nintendo just fails at life ever since the Nintendo 64 was released. Over fifteen years later and they still can't get their shit straight. I played that excite bike on the 3DS with the new and improved backgrounds. Why for the love of God doesn't Nintendo release all their original 2D titles with their new Nintendo 3DS 3D classics features! Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World would be mind blowing! It's like they don't want money.

That's probably one of the areas affected by the understaffing Miyamoto and Iwata have talked about, but they won't just say "yeah our VC is shit because we don't even have enough staff to finish our HD games on time". That's the only thing that would explain the horrible release schedule.

I don't know this works just fine.
The Ambassador GBA games are being run natively, pretty much like DS games. So you can't suspend them, use sleep mode, include manuals, etc. - I think that's why Nintendo isn't putting them on the eShop, and announced GBA VC on WiiU and not 3DS.

Not everyone is 3 foot tall with tiny hands
I'm an average guy (5'10") with average hands and I can play my Micro just fine. Not everyone has astigmatism :P

It's 2013 and Nintendo still can't get their shit together.

Yeah, I just don't get why I have to boot my Wii U in Wii mode to play Legend of Zelda or why I'd have to rebuy it on my 3DS if I want to play it on the way, let alone having online sync of save games.

Seriously.

There should be at least 3-4 quality GBA and SNES games coming to the 3DS eShop every month. I swear, Nintendo just lights money on fire.

Ambassator only or not
Good or not

The GBA emulator EXISTS =P
Running stuff natively =/= emulating.

Now, I'm NOT DEFENDING the lack of GBA games because I'm pretty sure Nintendo can make a GBA emulator for 3DS, but the Ambassador games don't count because they literally act as actual GBA carts being played on a DS.

Because making the games 3D took more effort than Nintendo thought. They already explained why they are not doing more 3D conversions for old titles a while back.

I think the reason SNES isn't supported is because 3DS does not support the resolutions required. Not to say that they couldn't do some scaling type things like they did with the e-Reader but I have a feeling people might take offense to that if they're paying $8.

Nintendo is so weird with VC in general... Why the hell were the donkey kong country games removed from Wii VC? Have they been added back or announced for Wii U?

Hold on there bud. The vast majority of SNES games were 256 x 224, same as the NES. The 3DS has more than enough pixels for that.

SNES resolution is the same as NES resolution isn't it? And NES games look fine.

Because they don't have an account system to implement a VC/classic collection across their systems, and they know they can't keep charging people $8 a pop for the same emulated software.

So are you saying it don't count as an emulator because it is ... too faithfull ?

The 3DS don't have native gba support.
You can't fit a gba card there and run.

So it is an emulator =P

Some used high-res modes with more horizontal resolution than 3DS provides though (off the top of my head Seiken Densetsu 3 was one). It may not be common but it's an issue that would need addressing (or some games mysteriously never showing up I guess).

VC has felt like an abandonware project for years. Good example is the design disparity between the Game Gear emu and all the others. I can understand trickling out the games as part of the sales strategy, but I just don't get how there can still be such a variety of design philosophies across the various platforms.

It all feels like some homebrew emu scene that lost steam. I was excited in the beginning, but I had to let it go. This and Neo-Geo Station on PSP/VITA could've been so fantastic, I feel so burned by it all. You can only support trickle models for so long, I'm done with all the buy-in bullcrap.

That isn’t even considering the lack of accounts, as if we weren’t jerked around enough.

Seiken Densetsu 3 never appeared on the Wii VC either. :p

It's just not a problem for the most SNES games. The bolded is what would probably happen to the few games that did use the hi-res mode.

I finally got wifi at my place after getting a new router and tried the eshop on my 3DS finally. And you know what? It fucking SUCKS.
It's 2013 and Nintendo still can't get their shit together. They have one of, if not the biggest classic collection of games and it's like pulling teeth to get that shit! Super Mario World is like...THE game! What about Super Mario Kart? Nope! Oh but they're on Wii U. Wow thanks, that's a system seller. Why don't they have everything unified across both systems like PSN does with PSone games? I want those games on the go dammit, not on a 50" TV.

Why not put EVERYTHING on it? Not every week, everything, right now. Dump it all. Hell, have a subscription plan like PSN! Something!

It's a variety of features. First, the 3DS has yet to receive any SNES games. The Virtual Console on the 3DS is mostly legacy portable games, with some NES games dotted around.

Secondly, they don't have all the games on it for multiple reasons

1) The publishing of games isn't just a simple upload and done. They have to recode the emulators for each particular game so that it will work perfectly. This takes time. While many argue they could just make a system-wide emulator, it wouldn't be 100% perfect for each game, and that is unacceptable to Nintendo. They want to make sure that the play of game fully emulates how it was played on its original console.
2) Releasing all games at once would be bad business. Nobody would buy most of the games, only the major ones being spotted. With a staggered release, they can give focus on different games each week. It's not perfect, but it's good business

It just seems like a ridiculous business practice to me. The North American 3DS install base is something like 8-million, and over 30-million worldwide if I recall correctly. If we take developers comments seriously, it's a bit easier to develop for the 3DS eShop, so I assume Nintendo wouldn't have many problems with cost of development, allocation of resources, localization, etc. If even ten percent of the total install base bought a popular VC title, it'd likely make a huge profit. I know I'd blow about $40-50 if I had some of the Wii/Wii U/ambassador games available on the 3DS VC this year alone. I just don't see how Nintendo could avoid an EASY money-making practice like this.

By this logic PSP Go emulates PSP games instead of running them natively (and 3DS emulates 3DS when you buy a retail game from the eShop!). It's not that its "too faithful", rofl, it's that 3DS uses its DS hardware to play GBA Ambassador games, and you can't add VC options to them. "Running natively" is not related to physical or digital.

What's all this hooey you guys are spitting about there being no SNES emulation? The Wii had SNES games on it's virtual console.

The fact that there are three different virtual console libraries at this point is embarrassing. It should be one unified thing. Charge me for different platforms, I don't care, but if I can play something on the Wii, I should be able to play it one the WiiU.

Welcome to the rage brother. Hope you like your stay.

Also, a minority here, but I want MORE GB GAMES. We can buy SNES games on Wii and WiiU, but GB games? They're 3DS-only, and suddenly we're not getting any of them. We're getting Game Gear games FFS.

Yeah, visiting the 3DS VC eshop is a bit underwhelming the first time, when you realize all you're going to get is stuff that ran on DS emulators in the first place.

I kind of expected GBA/SNES/Genesis games there but at this point I wouldn't hold my breath for any of these.

The elephant in the room really is the lack of a cross-device VC library with clear availability on platforms. But that supposes a unified user account system.

Yeah, they could, but the thing is, Nintendo don't actually hate money.

Yeah, not releasing anything and the WiiU show how much they love those bucks...

Sony did it with PSOne, or at least have released them at a much better rate and people love it.

I've got the pure white 3DS. It has 3D land on it at all times.

It's very very crisp, so it's very easy to see everything. I wish I still had mine, was awesome playing LTTP and SMW on it.
