Why was Call of Duty 3 never released on PC?

I'm currently playing through the WW2 CoD games on PC getting prepared for CoD:WW2 later this year, and I noticed 3 was never even released on PC. I played it on 360 back in the day but I don't even own it any more so this is a huge bummer.

I get why CoD2: Big Red One and Finest Hour are console exclusives, as the PC had CoD1 and 2 but why was 3 completely absent on the computer? I looked for a reason on google but never found it. Anyone have any insight?

If I had to guess it was originally going to be a console spin off like big red one but then they stuck a 3 on it.

Only reason I ended playing main titles on consoles (through Treyarch's line up).

MW2 was the last time I owned a COD game on PC (let alone from Infinity Ward).

I thought 3 was disappointing following 2, but I still immensely enjoyed the multiplayer and put a lot of hours into it.

The vehicles were great fun in multi player. Loved the tank battles in that french village map. Darting between buildings shelling each other.

Yep. The single player was sadly pretty terrible, but the multiplayer was fantastic.

The only things I cared for in that game was the epic soundtrack, the first and final levels and the French Resistance stuff (only because we hadn't seen it before, along with the Canadians).

But yeah, it's mostly meh like how Ghosts followed up BOII, following up COD3 with 2 was what sealed Treyarch's rep at the time.

I still remember them talking about how the Wii port was done by two programmers, and all they were given was the code and a DVD of the PS2 assets.

Was thinking this yesterday

Unfortunate cause I like the campaign. It's not the best, but I really loved the fact they included multiple countries and multiple campaigns

not that big thing though. I know Mount Blade Warband ported by one guy to PS4/Xbox One.Though some interns for summer helped on summer but mainly it was one a programmer did all job

It was released at a time when PC gaming was at its lowest ebb, assailed on all fronts by dirty cyber-pirates, waiting for Lord Gaben to save it.

Hm maybe I'll give it a go, I will assume it's a 30fps lock though? How is the Wii version?

The Wii version is an interesting bag. Visually it isn't good looking, and the button layout is not ideal (you can't remap them). But one thing I really liked about it, was that it had a lot of cool sequences that forced you to use the motion controls to get through. It was a Wii launch title so they were really trying to see how they can use the controller. Rigging up a bomb for instance is a ton of fun.

I bought it at launch and played it incessantly. I have a good relationship with that game, but some people just inherently hate motion controls, I dig them personally.

yep. multiple stories of port situations like that. N64 Tony Hawk Pro Skater was also an operation like that.

Fun fact: Tony Hawk actually wanted THPS to be an N64 game first. Activision talked him out of it because of the Playstation's install base was larger.

?

They released CoD4 on year later on PC and it was glorious. I really don't think it had anything to do with the state of PC gaming that 3 wasn't ported over.

It came out in a time where a lot of developers weren't releasing for PC because they were focusing on consoles only with Microsoft making a big push with the 360 and Pc wasn't regarded as a viable platform.

But that's only one part of the explanation, as CoD3 was more of an expansion than an actual mainline game.

I thought the multiplayer was fine for the time, i dont get the hate. The guns were fine, the vehicles were cool, and the maps were decent. Definitely not the worst CoD, give me a break.

Finest Hour will always be the worst CoD, though I haven't played the mobile stuff.

Call of Duty 3 was such a disappointment after Call of Duty 2. I'm fairly sure your good memories of the title wouldn't hold up today. It's best that you leave it relegated to your memory. At least Modern Warfare was amazing.

Because it was garbage and they knew PC gamers would reject their fourth rate Battlefield clone idea. Vehicles have no place in CoD.

Because it was literally dead to compare PS2 and early era of Wii and 360 didnt help either all PC centric devs jumping to xbox etc

Are you sure about that? MMO's, Counterstrike source, BF2 and the like were huge.

How wrong you are, United Offensive introduced vehicles in multi and it was probably my favourite multiplayer CoD game.
