Why was Rorschach on such a high horse?

I'm so confused. Are we talking about the dude who made those psuedoscientific ink blot tests?

The guy from Watchmen

Peace based on a lie is no true peace. It's a fantasy. A delusion. Rorschach saw this for what it was and knew the only way for humanity to survive was to look itself in the face and make its own choice.

Ozymandias put a band aid on a deep wound. It wouldn't last.

The entire ending of Watchmen doesn't really make much sense, considering the great plan for world peace is "fake an alien attack"... and that's it. How long was that going to actually work, especially since Ozy killed off everyone who could presumably make another one?

Roarschach was crazy. Cookoo. He was one of those self-righteous moral crusaders who has no qualms sacrificing himself or others for his principles. He is not accepting of any comprimise and the other heroes who are more level headed are. That's why Manhattan had to smoke him.

Nailed it.

This is the true answer to your question.

Kind of the whole point was that the Watchmen thought they were helping the world by fighting crime, when none of it mattered because the world was ending and they didnt even notice.....also Rorshach is crazy

Rorschach was the psychopath who killed the woman who rejected the dress he made, and then made up revenge stories to turn himself into a vigilante to undo his guilt. If he does anything "wrong" it makes him feel like his former killer-self, so that is why he is obsessed with vigilantism.

He's not "Rorschach" just because of a funny mask. He's a crazy killer trying to be a hero.

Rorschach wasn't one for comprising morals.

At the sake for billions of lives? Thats a bit much isn't it?

Yeah but this is nuclear war we're talking about, decades of radiation and rebuilding. Billions of lives. I rather throw a "common enemy" out there just to stop the bickering.

Er, what? Rorschach didn't kill Kitty Genovese...

Rorschach was a nut job. The entire point of his character was that he only saw things in black and white.

Ozy's peace might not have lasted, but it solved the proximate problem of an imminent nuclear war. That gives him or others a lot more time to maneuver.

He was a realistic version of so many other super heroes who have such unrealistic and inflexible moral codes. He died for what he believed in because he would rather people died, millions perhaps, than to be a part of a lie and let bad guy win and go unpunished.

You know we didn't nuke ourselves during the Cold War. So there was an option that they didn't have to make a "false peace" to hinder humanity's growth until they figure out it was all a hoax. The problem with oz plan is that he believes that the human race is children who must have their hands be held. No, the threat of nuclear war was used by oz to make a world which he can feel like a hero, instead of the authoritarian who wants to play god and have people do what he wants them to do.

Rorschach is a paranoid vigilante that had a bad upbringing which translated into him thinking very little of other people and questioning everything they did. i don't think he was on a high horse as much as he just didn't relate to the other Watchmen and general public.

also this.

This pretty much sums him up.

Kitty Genovese was a real person whose death in Watchmen was not altered.

The apathy shown toward Kitty Genovese's murder, and made it a cause célèbre, is sensationalist bullshit.

Rorschach was a parody of Mr. A who was created by Steve Ditko, who also created The Question. I think Ditko was a fan of Ayn Rand or something.

Ozymandias killed a millions of people to prevent nuclear war. To Rorschach, Ozymandias's reasoning wouldn't even be part of the equation. The world of Watchmen is full of moral greys but Rorschach is the one that still believes "wrong is wrong".

We almost did. And Dr Manhattan had so completely changed the world stage that you can't really use actual history as a comparison. Ozy knew that Manhattan would eventually tire of humans/earth, and that the Russians, who had been kicked around by the Americans for decades via Manhattan, would take that opportunity to retaliate. Maybe he was wrong that it would escalate into nuclear war (at least without him manipulating the situation), but the threat was pretty real.

The funny thing is that these are not entirely mutually exclusive statements.

The way I see it, temporary peace is better than no peace at all.

I mean, we are at peace now, we most definitely won't be at peace some time in the future. Does not mean that this temporary respite is meaningless.
