why was terminator genisys hated so much?

Everything up to the time jump forward I enjoyed and then after that I lost interest. Also, Arnie diving head first through spinning helicopter blades? Yeah nah.

I never got over how bad the casting was for Kyle and Sarah and the acting didn't help. It was alright but it dies in comparison to the earlier terminators.

I felt them trying to recreate shots made by James Cameron with the skills of someone not James Cameron was embarrassing to watch.

In fact, all the actors playing characters pre established in previous movies were easily overshadowed by their initial actors

This guy played a more convincing John Connor

If you look at it as a comedy, or as an intentional parody of itself, it's not so bad. Seperate it from the Terminator series, and it's a pretty decent film. As a part of the franchise, though, it sucks.

I don't think people hate it,they just think it's mediocre.I thought it was ok,but I wouldn't go to the cinema for a sequel.

Obviously the movie was terrible but even the best script in the world could not have succeeded with the two actors they cast in the lead roles. Just completely wrong in every way.

Just another one to add to the "does not exist" pile of Terminator sequels.

Finally just saw this. AMAZING film. Everything about it was well done. I can't really think of a solid complaint. Better than T1, T2, and the others. Though i saw all those when I was way young. So yeah. Amazing.

Loved it. LOVED it. The ending was perfect too. No cliff-hanger, (tho an after-credit scene exists, but I haven't seen it).

What a bump.

Seriously one of the worst movies of 2015 on every conceivable level, and that's not even getting into why it's the worst Terminator movie.

Are you on crack cocaine

Terminator: Genisys has grossed over $440 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film of the franchise and Schwarzenegger's career after Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Whelp

And yet they still shut down any possible sequels. People hated the movie and the studio knows a sequel would be a waste of their money.

I enjoyed it more than I should have. I know it's flawed, but I absolutely loved the idea of an alternate timeline where everything can go completely different and it could be it's own thing. Which it is after the jump forward in time, but that's the part where the movie completely and utterly falls apart.

Honestly, I hope they do in fact do the planned sequel and actually give it some serious thought. I still think it can work, if done correctly.

If not. Wait a few years, hope Avatar 2 bombs and Cameron decides Terminator needs one final movie to kill it off...

The movie was more stupid than the original Terminator. That is a feat in itself.

Also, they threw up more questions than they cared to answer. A dangerous game to play when you can assume that the movie is going to flop and you will never get to make the full trilogy.

Just saw your post.Haha.WHAT?T2 is a classic, this movie is mediocre at best.

I saw this on Saturday. I expected it to be utterly shite but I was hung over and there was an hour till Match of the Day. In the end I watched it all an was reasonably pleased. Definitely not a great movie and Kyle Reese was an absolute betrayal of T1 but it was OK. Miles better than T3.

I enjoyed it. Thought the future t-5000(?) was terrifying with its introduction.

Of course its no terminator 1/2, but much better than salvation.

It's strange that they paid so much attention to some stuff and then so little to other

Like those punks are actually kind of wearing the same clothes, but then the hair is just completely different.

I find that part hilarious. The costume designer painstakingly found the same or created very similar clothing from a movie released over 30 years earlier*, and then the hair and makeup people didn't give a shit whatsoever.

* though the middle dude's jacket is completely off

This sounds like something my dad would say

Its just shit. It totally undermines the original movies and throws in pointless alternate events / time lines which ruin the franchise.

Terrible movie with terrible actors playing iconic characters.

Plus everyone has been crying about future war movie for years but instead of that we get yet another rehash.

This has to be a troll post. There's no way it can't be.

Is this a cry for help?

Its the worst terminator movie so it deserves the hate. That said it wasn't all that bad. A solid 6 out of 10.

2 > 1 > Salvation > 3 > Genisys

Also that dragon lady is a terrible actor for movies. She should stick to GoT.

This is basically my order as well, with one slight modification.

T1 = T2 > Salvation > 3 > Genisys

I didn't hate it. Sure it's not fantastic but I think people expect too much. Just because it wasn't another T2 doesn't mean it wasn't worth watching.
I've learned to ignore the negative hyperbolic BS on GAF.

Because nobody wants to read about a movie that's just average. The more it's mediocrity is exaggerated and the bigger the name, the more clicks reviewers get. Then the readers go into the film with an already jaded perception that the film is shit and echo those thoughts on message boards. Half the movies that people claim as downright terrible and offensively bad are simply mediocre/average films that can still be enjoyed, but that doesn't get clicks.

Yup. People went in droves on the nostalgia alone. It left a bad taste and many will not return for the sequel.

Sarah and Kyle were very unconvincing in their roles. The T800 was throwing quips around like it was a Marvel movie. The villains were complete shit, they talk too much and aren't scary at all. They pale badly in comparison to the relentless terror of the original T800 and T1000.
