I liked it. Grew up on terminator and t2 as a kid, didn't see anything wrong. Not like the first 2 were cinematic masterpieces.

Terminator 2 is widely considered to be one of, if not the, best movie in it's genre in film history. I would not actually shy away from calling it a "cinematic masterpiece".

I think some over-praise Terminator, but T2? Unimpeachable.

i watched the movie about 2 days ago.

i ended up liking it a bit more than 3 and 4. still nowhere near the first 2 but we'll never get to those heights ever again so my expectations are adjusted for reality.

one funny thing is that the miscasting made me think they'd get to a point where the characters would just not fall in love to prevent John from being born, screwing up Skynet's plot.

and, once again, i don't like the fact they left some unresolved plot lines for a sequel when there's no guarantee that they'll do another one. and even if they do one, the plot points could just get the Salvation treatment and be completely ignored.

What T1 lacks in technical marvel and production values, it makes up for with some great acting (Kyle's "It doesn't feel pity or remorse", most of Hamilton's scenes, Arnold's terse but effective dialog, even strong bit player scenes like the psychiatrist and the hard boiled police chief), a groundbreaking story, and incredible scenes like Tech Noir, the punk confrontation, the police station shootup, and so on. Its low tech but incredibly grungy and real early 80s setting does wonders for the film as well, much like Escape From New York.

I'd accept any argument that puts T2 above it, but T1 deserves its praise, imo.

Well, I don't think Terminator is a bad film by any measure, but I don't think it's in the same league as Terminator 2 - yet some will lump the two in, and even put Terminator over T2.

My main points of disagreement with you are the performances. Linda Hamilton and Arnold are much better, with better material, in T2. I would actually consider Hamilton's jump in performance to be one of the biggest all-time visible improvements from an actor within a franchise.

I also felt Sarah and Kyle's relationship was under-cooked. The vast majority of their scenes together were comprised of Kyle yelling at Sarah. I never felt like these two people were developing an attraction or falling for each other, and when they actually did, I felt like we were missing vital scenes. The humanist side of the film is very flat compared to the heart of T2.

I don't disagree that T2 is a better fleshed movie. The acting is great top to bottom and the characters are written well. You're right that the Kyle-Sarah relationship felt forced to fit the pacing of the movie. However there was some chemistry, unlike Genisys. The scene where he talks about her photo is effective, for instance.

As for Hamilton, her dramatic chops improved, but I think in T1 she pulled off a completely fine "horror movie" heroine performance in the vein of Jamie Lee Curtis, the lamb avoiding the slaughter.

I mean, sure, it wasnt at T1 or 2 level but certainly better then 3 and 4 (combined). Maybe it wasnt quite what people expected (when does this ever happen) but its certainly a movie you can watch and have 2 hours of solid entertainment..

Ive seen it for the first time yesterday and honestly don understand the amount of hate it recieved.
Arnie was a bit dull, and the time travel story was nonsensical (which is always the case, in any movie ever because thats the nature of time travel) but i had my share of fun with it.

Even if it wasn't a Terminator movie, it's a pretty bland one. It would have fared worse if it didn't have the Terminator name.

Pretty much a by-the-books studio movie that doesn't dare try to offend anyone or anything, which of course does nothing to help. It didn't draw new Terminator fans, and it offended old ones.

Finally decided to watch this since it came up on Netflix. Super disappointed.

There was potential, it could have been pretty good if it had only been about the premise of Kyle Reese going back to 1984 and finding himself in a screwed up altered timeline, Back to the Future style. They could have had some real fun with that and even done it in such a way that it didn't retcon everything else, with a little bit of imagination. But as soon as they show the 1984 time machine the whole movie just goes to complete shit. They should have stayed in 1984 and maybe not wiped out the original T-800 within 30 seconds of it appearing.

Khaleesi cannot act as an American. Lots of Brits have inauthentic or bogus American accents, but through that they are still good, for whatever reason. Khaleesi is just plain terrible. Even Jai Courtney out acted her.

If they had actually cared a bit about the casting, it could have done better, IMO. After seeing it, I have to say Clarke wasn't that bad, but I just didn't buy Courtney as Reese.

EDIT: I love that I posted right after the one above me! ThisIsNeoGAF.gif.
