Wii Blaster = TEH SUCK

Kumiko Nikaido

Vindication...sweet.

The Wii Blaster, an accessory that converts your Wii Remote and Nunchuck into a shotgun-blaster, sucks.

Made by Core Gamer, and priced at $20 bucks, you'd think the company would include documentation or some remote hint of instructions to assemble this damned thing. Well, too bad. You're on your own in figuring out out to attach the Wii Remote into the front barrel, and feed the Nunchuck-wire THROUGH the main body where Nunchuck itself will rest outside on the grip. In the end, you'll have some wire-slack hanging out making the shotgun look like it has a small umbilicle-cord at its side. Oh what fantastic design!

So how does the Wii Blaster handle with all the FPS games out there? Like crap. Since most games use the Nunchuck for movement, and the Remote for shooting, you'll be pressing by the barrel to get off your rounds. Until FPS games from here on out allow you to remap shooting to the Nunchuk, then you won't be shooting by the grip. This doesn't feel natural at all, and for shooting games like Wii Play and Resident Evil 4, holding and using the Blaster is not intuitive. Having fun waggling this thing with both hands to reload! Oh joy!

Lastly, does this accessory allow for more accuracy? Nope. The Wii Remote is not the GunCon 2, so since there's a lot of "free space" between the onscreen cursor and your actual hand-movements on the remote, the Blaster-sight is pretty much rendered null.....looking through the sight to aim does not translate exactly to where the cursor appears on your TV. Lame.

Wait for the official Wii Zapper by Nintendo instead. This Wii Blaster is gimmicky at best.

Sorry if I'm missing something here, but I don't see how the Wii Zapper is going to fix these issues since its the same basic concept.

Prettty much. the Zapper is garbage, too. I don't know what they were thinking putting the trigger on the front handle. It's nigh on impossible to play anything with the Zapper; you're better off just holding the Wiimote freely.

i changed my mind on the Wii zapper and any gun-like peripherals for the wii. The naked wiimote + nunchuk is gun-like enough for me.

Simple..
The Wii Zapper comes with a game and is compatible with games that will be released around the same time...

More important...
The Zapper has a trigger:
e3-2007-wii-zapper-hands-on-impressions-20070712035012058.jpg

Though it just presses the B button below the Wiimote...

The Blaster (the one in the original post) is just..a shell...that simulates your holding a gun, not actually works like one..

I don't know why people buy this crap. Every review I've read from someone who bought one of these third party guns all say the same thing - Mediocre at best.

And everyone knew N was making a gun so why not wait for the official model which is surely going to get the support of developers over these third party ones?

Also Ghost Squad uses the Z button as the trigger so if the gun doesn't work right with a game you can blame the developers (though N did build the thing backwards).

Can they call it "Wii Zapper" without a nod from Nintendo? If so, what's stopping developers from creating games with "Wii" as a prefix for the game titles --- wouldn't it help sales?

Yeah, which make pretty much any accessory beyond the nunchuk kind of pointless.

Reggie didn't say. It will come bundled with "software".

Okay, but I can't see it being just $20 unless its Wii Zap(some kind of shooting mini games bundle with the wii zapper.

There is too much confusion in this thread.

The Wii Blaster is the crap 3rd party thing for $20.

The Wii Zapper is the crap 1st party thing with a game included
(maybe Duck Hunt)
for $20.

99.9% chance of this being the case. Nintendo will never put effort into a proper shooter.

Something like point blanc or whatever its called maybe :-\

People have said it. This design has the same flaws as Zapper due to Wiimote not working like a lightgun.

But if there are any games to be developed specifically to Wii Zapper, than this "Blaster" will be just as good for the job.

@fernoca: Zapper's trigger=B button. And this thing allows direct access to it. So.

Did you people just climb out from under a rock? Seriously WTF?

All of the Wii Zapper videos show the reticle and the Zapper at a 1:1 ratio. It's perfect or near perfect. How about you people do a little research before opening your big stupid mouths?

So has everyone finally acknowledged that the Wiimote cannot function as-is as a true lightgun?

Wouldn't it be possible to calibrate the pointer with your screen? If the software knows where the corners of your tv are it might work...

Eh? How is that possible? It's all dependant on where your sensor bar is in relation to the TV. I can't imagine being able to aim down the barrel of the Zapper at the screen and having it shoot where you're aiming.

Meh, I'd rather just use the Wiimote and no attachment. Playing RE:UC was a chore made even more difficult by a cumbersome and completely unnecessary add-on. Good thing we have a choice!

The Zapper is just a piece of plastic that unites the Wiimote and the Nunchuck in a faux gun. You don't need to watch a video about how it works in terms of pointing, just grab the Wiimote and try it for yourself.

Well, maybe it's possible to implement some kind of calibration system. It's all software related. The remote has no deadzone and is more than pixel perfect.

yes. ign or somewhere even mentioned that ghost squad had a calibration screen. ghost squad in the arcade had a calibration screen as well.

Really?

If so that's good news.

And 1:1 may be possible, as the newest time crisis/guncon uses a similar sensor bar to the wii's with calibration, doesn't it?

Yes, completely ignore the fact that games that will use the Zapper will have a calibration screen so that the Wiimote acts like a light gun.

Also never mind the fact that the Guncon 3 is nothing but a wiimote with 2 sensor bars.

All modern light guns use sensor bar tech because of the TV's. The Wiimote is a lightgun if you calibrate it to act like one. This isn't anything new or groundbreaking people.

So? :p
It's all about natural "feel"..
As Kumiko pointed...the design of the Blaster allows for basically, shoot with the Nunchuck (Z/C buttons)...only...

You can use the B button..but you have to manually press it, and who holds a shotgun, which is what the blaster mimics..that way??

Here's is where you need to put your/wrap your hand around..in order to shoot with the Blaster..
4rb1jt1.jpg

Unlike the Zapper whch has a trigger, were you put your hand and press the trigger which presses the B button..without having to control it any other..weird way..

With the Zapper..the Trigger feels a lot more natural, since you're still holding it the way anyone holds it...

If there's 1:1, then all of these games will have an option to show no reticle. That's when you have a real gun. I won't hold my breath.

I think the only way to to this properly is to make a PISTOL that the wiimote PLUGS INTO and the nunchuck PLUGS INTO. No more ****ing PLASTIC CASES! I don't want some plastic thing pressing my trigger! I want the TRIGGER TO BE THE TRIGGER! And I definitely don't want controller intestines hanging out!

Like this, but better hopefully:

I'll just use my hand to hold the Wiimote and my finger to pull the trigger.

Actually, one of the Nintendo guys said it was a game that came out in 1995.
Which could be Area 51, Time Crisis 2 or Virtua Cop.
There were a few more lightgun games from that time too.

All in there.
Time Crisis II Arcade was released in 1998. The original Japanese Time Crisis 1 Arcade could be a candidate since it was released in 1995.

I saw a site that was selling these and they were only $10 a piece.
I wanted to buy two, but now I can't remember what site that was.

I hope you realize that the gun you linked to IS just a plastic case that mechanically pulls the B button. There is no Wii gun peripheral that remaps the Wiimote's buttons. They are all just shells.

I don't know why people are so misinformed about the Wii Zapper. Maybe its because I'm a light gun fan and pay extra attention without noticing?

that gun is terrible, I have it, the delay from pulling the trigger and things happening is bad.

the only reason your wiimote plugs into the gun is to let you plug your nunchuck into the bottom, and that broke soon after I tried it out.

Is what presses the B button under the Wiimote...just like the Zapper.
Only that with the Zapper it's nearly instant, while on the gun there's a delay as Link pointed out.
