For 20 that game is actually worth it. Very silly at times, but at others it is genuinely creepy. The weird juxtaposition of good and crap somehow elevates the material and invalidates some of the criticisms. In this way it is analagous to the movie Battlefield Earth.

Definitely. It's the most fun I've had in a 3D Sonic game since SA2...perhaps ever.

Great concept (the basic speed-focused concept I wanted from a 3D Sonic all along), pretty darn good overall execution (the gameplay itself is great once you get going, but it's a shame it didn't have a traditional stage progression...the constant unlocking of new backtracking missions is a tad too clunky and really not satisfying enough).

It's certainly worth having in a collection, IMHO...especially at that price.

Octomania by Atlus Games is one of this week's releases, and another entry into the $20 category. If you love creatures of a tentacled variety as well as puzzle games, this could be something for you. Octomania is of particular interest as it supports the WiFi Connection for online play.

Octomania Gameplay Video

I'm tempted to pull the trigger on that one, but I doubt they'd be many people online.

I use the opportunity to add some updates to the OP. To summarize:

Sonic and the Secret Rings is now $20, Medal of Honor: Vanguard is $30, Deca Sports has been released for $30, and Geometry Wars: Galaxies has been pricedropped to $30. As Drkirby mentioned above, Metal Slug Anthology is sold for $20 new at GameStop, but it is apparently sold out.

At this point the only high profile games above the $30 barrier are RE: Umbrella Chronicles, Boom Blox, Okami (but see next post), and Bully - not counting Nintendo's own games.

Another Special Deal:

okami.jpg

Okami is available at bestbuy.com for $29.99 with free shipping, but the offer ends on the 24th. Here is a link to the offer.

Despite some rough spots and the lack of polish in the control department and graphics porting, Okami is definately a solid, long-lasting, and beautiful action-adventure which deserves to land into many Wii disc drives if one has an interest in that type of game.

A quick update:

Two launch titles have finally dropped to the $20 level - Rayman Raving Rabbids and Super Monkeyball: Banana Blitz.

Are either of these two games worth it at this price?

SMB: BB definitely is (just stay away from the shoddy minigames), and depending on your tolerance for the Rabbids and WarioWare-type knock-offs, RRR might be as well.

Two new entries for this list since I last updated:

Rayman 2 is now available on the $30 tier and is worth looking into if you like multiplayer party madness, and The Monkey King: The Legend Begins is available for $20 if you like cute-ld ooking console schmups.

Two games have dropped prices: Namco Museum is now available at the 20 dollar range, which seems to be a more reasonable price, and might be worth it for the Pac'n'Roll game if nothing else.

The most important update is that Ghost Squad is available for $20 on Amazon, so if you like you get your Wii Zapper (or Perfect Shot, or even wiimote) on-rails shooting action going, you can't go wrong at that price.

Any current price drops or deals that I have missed so far?

Amazon:

Sonic Riders Zero Gravity: 19.99
Target Terror: 19.99 or less (so bad, it's good!)
Alien Syndrome: 19.99 (seen this quite a bit locally, too)
House of the Dead 2&3: 19.99 (gamestop also)
Sonic & the Secret Rings: 19.99

these are new to me, so im sorry if they're dupes.

If you like soccer (or football, if you prefer), then you should pick up PES 2008 for $30 (for example from amazon.com) - it is considered to be the best sports game for the Wii right now according to many people - if not even the best version of the PES franchise due to its innovation RTS-style game control.

Bully is now available at several places including amazon and Best Buy for only $30 - a price drop of $20, bringing in more in line with the price of the PS2 original. The game comes highly recommended to those who want to play a sandboxish action-adventure in a unique setting - a school - and all reports say that the motion controls are great and make the game even more enjoyable.

Hey... not sure if this was mentioned yet, but...

Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None was marked $19.99 at Gamestop/EB when I stopped by today.

Oh snap!

Samurai Warriors Katana is running a mere $20 NEW on Amazon.com and various seller sites....with Used tracking slightly under. Some sellers still at full price though for some reason.

$20 for this game is a freaking steal. I found the reviews to be totally off the mark on this one and the game to be insanely addictive. Just turn the VA to the Japanese track in the options menu. $20 is a pittance of a gamble if you like slashing, rail shooting, or trying to catch Ishikawa Goemon in a Musou....

So about The Monkey King: The Legend Begins, its not terrible. In fact its even sorta okay. Its got the same feature set and gameplay that you'd expect out of any standard issue 2D shooter from 1992, but it also has its strengths as well. The music is good, the sprite work is kinda nice, and there's a not overwhelming but not too easy level of challenge.

It would be much easier to recommend it if it weren't such a simple game at heart. Its a back-to-basics game that's a bit short on substance, but (for me at least) had enough charm to make up for it. So if ya see it really dang cheap someday, or perhaps just really love 2D shooters in general enough to forgive a new one for being aggressively retrograde, give this a shot.

As mentioned in this thread, Zack and Wiki is now available for $7.96 at Toysrus, or $9.99 through their online store.

If you are a fan of old-school computer adventure games, especially the Gobliiins series, then there is no reason why you shouldn't pick up this title. Some people complained about an extremely slow beginning before the difficulty picked up, and others about the choice of graphics style and art design, but it is seen as one of the Wii's best titles - and a steal at that price.

Geometry Wars is now available for $20 at Target and other good shops. If you love fast-paced arcade highscore shoot-em-ups with both legacy traditional controller as well as pointer-based control, then you should not avoid this game. More than just an updated port of the XBLA classic, this Wii game includes a huge amount of new levels, enemies, and gamemodes - including multiplayer. An overlooked sleeper hit for the Wii.

Price Collapse!

Blastworks: Build, Trade and Destroy is now only $20 at Gamestop, and if you are a fan of 2d side-scroller shoot-em-ups, or enjoy making your own, check it out. There is already a wide amount of custom content already available for download.

Other price-drops at Gamestop: Sega Superstar Tennis is now at $20, the Monkey King, My Word Coach, and Cranium Kabookii are all now $15, making them a worthwhile impulse party buy (Amir0x recommends Word Coach! :lol).

Octomania is now in a category of its own at $10 - which is not bad for a tentacled puzzler with an online mode with typical Atlus quality.

All of these offers are also available over the GameStop website, too.

Baroque is now available at $30 - so if you like action-RPGs with a roguelike touch and a slightly bizarre cast of characters, you might want to check it out. Reviews were mixed, but it does garnish a fair share of love here on NeoGAF. I am personally surprised to see an Atlus game still available - I thought it would go out of print pretty quickly.

Hey this is a useful thread. I might pick up No More Heroes and Geometry Wars at these prices.
Do it. Both are great games.

Make sure to read some impressions of No More Heroes though. I love it but it's not a game for everyone, mainly if you're too bothered about technical issues.

^ Only $10 at kmart? Nice.

Hmm. I'll read up on it than.

I disagree. Both Kororinpa: Marble Mania and Mercury Meltdown Revolution are better games. Just be aware that Mercury Meltdown is more of a puzzler.

I agree that both of the aforementioned games are good but Monkey Ball is a fun game too. It's a little different from these two because of it's jump button but it's worth a playthrough. Maybe not getting all the crowns like I did (so difficult) but worth a playthrough, especially on the cheap.

Endless Ocean is on sale at CC for $20

Awesome game. Buy NOW.

And I may jump on this. Looks like a nice fun and relaxing game, something you don't see much anymore.

A handful of new additions to the list today, including a first party title for a change.

Battalion Wars 2, Nintendo's online pseudo-RTS combat game is a highlight for only $30 now at GameStop. Alone in the Dark dropped $20 down to the same price tag of $30, so if you were ever tempted, now is the time to get it. Death Jr. and Tomb Raider Anniversary are both action-adventure games which recieved favorable reviews from the prices and are, again, available at the $30 pricepoint. And last but not least, if you need something to shoot at after Ghost Squad and HotD:2+3. then you can go shoot some terrorists in Konami's very... special... M-rated lightgun game Target: Terror for only $30.

rofl, target terror. Played that in a pizza parlor once. If you continually shoot someone in the head (1 shot counts as a kill regardless), their head explodes :|

both the guys and girls D:

Mercury Meltdown Revolution is now for $15 at Sears if you can find it, a 25% pricecut. It is one of the several "ball-tilting" games available for the Wii, but according to Amir0x the very best one with lots of unlockables, challenging puzzles and levels, and great controls. Make Amir0x happy and buy it.

Shit I knew I missed a Nintendo quality game. Sorry Battalion Wars for not buying you earlier. Now Ill definitely pick you up.:D

Big Brain Academy joins its brethen Battalion Wars 2 and Endless Ocean as the third budget Nintendo title, hitting at $30. Apparently it has an enjoyable party mode, and a nice selection of minigames and even WifiConnect24 support.

In other news, Boogie is on clearance for $10 at many Targets right now, together with a free USB microphone, so it is more than worth it for its Karaoke and dancing modes at that price, despite some questionable design choices and control issues. Another good fit for a drunken party.

Wii classic Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is now broadly available for only $20 - if you like action survival horror and have not yet picked this title up, now is the perfect time to get one of the most praised third party games on the Wii (or GameCube, for that matter) in its definitive version.

Probably one of the most underestimated sleeper hits of the year, Purr Pals from Crave suffers from its Ubisoft-like cover. While it is indeed a pet simulator, its extra gameplay modes raises it above the sea of mediocre wave of pet shovelware already available. Besides the standard free-play sim mode, it includes such modes such as an arcade-like "chase the mouse" game and an Elebits-like "destructomode", where you have to try to scratch furniture and knock down vases and books to cause as much destruction as possible before getting caught by your owners. A surprisingly fun game with a reasonably decent multiplayer catfight battle mode.
