Wii: Forecast Channel is up (for everyone)!

globe is very nice just spinning it round.

While I understand they won't have all local areas to me, it would be nice if I could at least rename my location (Reading) to one of my choosing (windsor).

Would also be nice if it showed tomorrows summary in the icon on the main wii menu.

Lets hope the news channel is more customisable. My own RSS feeds would be nice.

You can, click on the channel in the wii menu but dont click on start. Ofcourse the channel needs to be setup to begin with, but after that all you have to do is click the forecast channel and not press start to get the weather in your area.

I was referring to this pic that shows the high and low for the day.

instead of saying forecast channel, the box on the menu should have the city name and current temperature instead of having to click it

is there any kind of settingfor this? i see the picture a couple posts above has it set like that

Very cool. I'm using it more for geography than anything else. It would be nice if you could switch between the satellite view and a map view with borders and lat./long. lines. I also wish that the terrain was an actual 3D model, so that when you lower the viewpoint the mountains come out of the model.

I'm really loving the fluidity of motion, and the navigation is flawless. Now why does Japan get different art than every other country? Their clouds are very Mario-esque.

It's not much use when the last time the "Current" temperature updated was at Midnight.
Right, because sticking your head out of a window for the current temperature isn't accurate enough.

You're right, it's not. The fact that the Wii Weather Channel doesn't display current temperature anywhere makes it completely useless. Unless spinning the globe gives you cheap thrills.

Zod, yeah.

Maybe if Superman fights him and Lois Lane dies again, he'll fly around the world fast enough to get the Wii to update again.

I won't deny that I like spinning the globe, but (and it seems I'm in the minority here) usually I'm interested in the weather tomorrow or in two days from now.
Getting an accurate figure of the current temperature just doesn't seem as important to me personally. But hey, I won't argue with you if the weather channel is a gimmick or not, because it obviously is.

Yes I think that the current weather should be shown in the channel menu screen and when you click it shows maybe the 4 day forecast there. Just my thought.

Like the picture above:

Very cool feature. Nice interface, spinning the globe is fun, and the music is very relaxing.

Not sure how often I'll use it, but it's not like we paid for it.

thanks for the heads up. my Wii is downloading the update right now as I type.

can't wait to try out the spinning globe and see if the weather in my area, north eastern IL is accurate.

I also hope the Internet Channel / Opera browser is released on the 23rd as European Nintendo websites have indicated.

It's got different background music for the Globe now. It's 8pm GMT right now though I'm not sure what time exactly the music changed. Probably depends on the time of day. I wonder if there'll be another change at like 12.

Where? I'm in Round Lake (suburb of Chicago) and the closest ones are Waukegan and Vernon Hills, both at least 10-15 miles from home.

As it is, I only got to poke around in the thing for a minute or two, but it was cool to have it running, if anything.

wow I am really close to you, I'm in Fox Lake. yea those same suburbs are the closest clocies for me as well.

I thought it was hilarious that they have the South Pole, it's -1 degree :lol
but no North Pole (haha Santa North Pole-wide blackout in effect)

Add me in the ranks of those who had to choose a location some 15 miles away from his own. I am somewhat puzzled, as the city where I live is the capital for the whole province, it's annoying not to find it there.

None the less, if the channel is right, I shouldn't have to wake up early tomorrow to dig away snow, as it's forecasting sun for the whole week in the area.. I'm going to wait and see if the thing is reliable.

HOLY SHIT! THE STARS! It just struck me and I checked if I could find the only star constellation I know: the Great Bear. And I believe IT'S THERE. Turn the globe around so that the sky faces the direction it would when you would stand on the globe. (ehh you know what I mean!)

It's not really surprising if I think about it and the images are coming from NASA but I just said wow :]

New Game:

get some friends around.
zoom all the way out on the globe
give it a good spin
hit + repeatedly until it stops.
guess the temperature
who's closest, wins.

Good times.

So THAT'S the purpose of the forecast channel. Tks man, you really opened my eyes. :P

7 pages of discussion on the weather channel? Something that Yahoo! has had for over 10 years. Something that Cable TV has had for what . . . 30 years? :lol

although it's obvious for many, some people probably missed this feature: you can tilt the angle of the globe down so it's not just an overhead view. nifty.

Nintendo systems have never had this feature before. not everyone uses a computer.

now Wii have interactive Forecast for the whole globe, on our TVs. who needs yahoo anyway? :lol

It's really dumb that wiiconnect24 doesn't work when the system is on, despite setting it to "ON" in the options. I have it disabled during standby because it gets really hot and the forecast channel just refuses to work with these settings.

Not that I would find it useful at all, but I imagine the bug will exist with anything that uses wiiconnect24.

It sucks, it should connect to the weather channel just like it does with the shopping channel when you have standby off. Hopefully they fix that.

See, I thought the purpose would be to allow you to have real-time updates to your games based on the weather of your town.

ie: if it's raining outside, it's raining in your Animal Crossing town. If it's snowing outside, it's snowing inside. I wonder if that data can be accessible to developers to incorporate into their game content? News headlines from the news channel scrolling across billboards in games, all that kinda stuff.

Could have some fun with that if it is available to be used.

Just downloaded there in Spain. Just like everyone else said... it feels nice and great, but it's not very useful due to the "old-updates" and the so few locations included. It would be fantástic in real time update!

Also a more detailed pronostic would be better like morning, afternoon, evening and Midnight time prediction.

And to finish, changing the icon per the actual temperature or the next hours prediction would be a **** as hell great adition.

P.S: And auto attach of the time when a message was send by someone, with the closest measured weather would be ****ing hot too (+ more larger space for the messages + the posibility to capture the image displayed by a game a la screen capture + the posibily of sending images attached to a message + the posibility of sending messages to multiple persons or save as draft and resending a message and so... ****, there are hundreds of things to improve)

Edit: WTF! I just found that the day doesn't change at 00:00. I'm on wednesday and it says tomorrow prediction as Wednesday :lol

Check out the Madden thread that was just started? Seems there is real-time Weather change indeed.

Edit: Link.

I'm halfway about to brick this system. It's been updating for 10 minutes and is only on the 8th percent finished. WTF? My fricken router is 15 feet away but it takes forever to find

Has anybody turned off their wii during an update? This update? I've tried to put my router as close as possible but it still shows like 10% complete for the update and it hasn't moved in about 10 minutes. The only way to resolve it is to turn off the power. WTF, why can't they put a 'stop d/l' button? I'm just gonna brick this sumbitch. And I can't wait til the ethernet adaptor.

I've turned off my system once during an update. Didn't brick anything at all. But I can't or won't guarantee your system not bricking if you turn yours off. I guess if the system is stuck, you might as well turn it off and try to re-download. I'm sure Nintendo will help you out if the system gets bricked with your saves and stuff.

Yeah, I had to do it with this Weather Channel update. It worked nicely on the 2nd try.

People bring this up a lot, but honestly: Would it be that fun for people in Texas or California to never see snow in Animal Crossing? Nothing but overcast or rain almost constantly for those playing in England?

It's not much of a "get away from it all" fantasy world if you can't escape the weather constantly dogging where you actually live.

Same goes for the news, given how repetitive that can get. I'd hate to be gathering fish, wander up to Nook's Shop and see "PRESIDENT BUSH ASSURED AMERICANS TODAY THAT THE TERRORIST THREAT HAS BEEN LOWERED" on a sign nearby.

Well hopefully you can disable it if you want.

Heh, if you click on the little picture to the right in any of the forecast screens, it takes you to a 6-hour forecast screen.

Thanks. I had to funk around with the settings. I had to change the channel. Now it's working like a charm. Pfft.
