If this leads to Region free LEGAL gaming, then I'll be a happy panda. :D

yeah... something's gonna be free alright.

sorry, but you guys are being really naive if you think this won't fall into the wrong hands. remember how the Dreamcast became epicenter of homebrew? how about the XBox?

It's possible a hack like this won't be sufficient to disable disk authentication, as it's handled by the drive itself.

You're right, non-modded wii's aren't going to be able to read burned dvds anytime soon, however that doesn't mean an ISO loader won't come about at some point.

It's not THAT hard to chip your console, guys. Really. I'm serious. The enthusiasm from PALand in this thread is inspiring, but if you really cared you would quit bitchin' and git chippin'.

Resisting the lure of free Wii games shouldn't be that hard. What games, right? Nintendogs clone with lazy motion programming number seven hundred fifty?

And if you pirate Zack & Wiki, NMH, or Endless Ocean, you're going to Hell.

You know, there IS a way for Nintendo to patch this.

Yes, they can't patch Zelda. They don't have to. They merely have to patch the main menu firmware "Data" program that copies SD files to Wii internal memory, programming it to disallow certain types of Zelda save files.

People keep saying this. I think this issue could be solved easily by just getting a second Wii but simply disregarding any system updates Nintendo tends to notify people of. The 1st Wii can stay as a normal gaming machine.

An ISO loader might be possible, yes. But you'd need a USB harddisk, Twilight Princess, a SD card, and you'd need to run the loader through TP, so there's a certain barrier. It's not all that convenient (unless someone manages to create an easy to install HD Loader channel).

It's entirely possible to run pirated PS2 games without modding the hardware or buying HDLoader or some other boot disk for example (using a PSone game as a trigger to execute arbitrary code, HDLoader for example, from a memory card), but noone I know in person uses this way. It's just too inconvenient I guess. Casual pirates expect convenient, simple solutions.

fixed.

Just tested this, with a NTSC Wii, and Zelda RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN (that's the code for the American TP at launch), and it worked perfectly.

Chipping doesn't fully solve the region free issue, unfortunately. At least not for PAL machines. I looked into it and the incompatible games list seems to match up perfectly with the games-I-want-to-import list.
