Wii Impressions for 10 games some PS3 too

That's great news on bowling. I was really concerned about the accuracy of the Wiimote after watching that IGN video from Leipzig. It looked like the bat in the baseball game was jittering all over the place.

Right. It's not some port with Wiimote functionality tacked on. Definitely puts it ahead of a fair amount of launch titles just for that aspect.

It's one of the reasons why I'm buying the system at launch.

Trauma Center is almost assured at least 100k due to its status as a launch title alone. I imagine it's the type of thing Nintendo will want to showcase in kiosks along with Wii Sports, Red Steel, and Zelda.

Right, which is what's so great. We're looking at what's likely to become Atlus USA's best selling game ever, and that's a nice thing to see.

One thing with Trauma Center too is that Nintendo seem really excited about it. Reggie talked at our dinner the first night and proclaimed his excitement for it and Nintendo demoed it at their vendor class over the likes of Excite Truck and Wii Sports.

Damn, they really need to find a way to get it played on House. :lol

Which game currently holds that title btw?

I dunno for sure... highest one I know of is Trauma Center DS. :lol

It just passed Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis month before last or thereabouts. They're the only 100k+ games I know of from them. Disgaea, Ogre Battle 64, and Magna Carta are the highest (that I know of) below those.

Well that seals it. Excite Truck and Zelda for me on Nov 19th. I'm a Burnout whore and if Truck is similar, I'm gonna enjoy the crap out of it.

I haven't heard a bad impression about EXCITE TRUCK!!!!!!! yet, shame its not a European release this year.
Hope Datel, get that free loader working ASAP.

Excellent news about Metal Slug's control options and being ready for launch. Looks like I'll probably be going with that and Excite Truck for my day 1 games.

Buy Trauma Center.

Bitch.

The only thing Ive heard about Excite Truck that was disappointing was that it is only 2 player.

I am pretty sure Amirox had some negative things to say about Excite Truck just because.

Wii sports sounds better and better. My most anticipated title to play.

Wii play sounds nice aswell. Billiard is something I play for fun often, so that sounds really good.

What is this about excite truck not coming to europe this year? Is that true? =(

Animal crossing I can understand. The characters and art style have become a staple of the series. But I mean come on, wario ware games visually are all oooooooooooover the place. Putting a mii in there would fit the game as well as putting in some drawings done by a 2 year old. It's all fair game in wario ware.

I guess, the way I see it, I like WarioWare because each game has its own unique look and art style. By putting the Miis in there, I'm afraid a lot of the games might end up having a similar look to them.

Plus, I have a friend who does art for some of the WarioWare games, so I also have personal reasons for not wanting to see that kind of stuff change. *heh*

Metal Slug for Launch?!? Noooooooooooooooooo! I already have too many games to get as it is!!!

But I won't complain too loudly. I'm just glad we're getting it!

I think they'll be fine in Animal Crossing, as long as they code it to transfer your Mii over, but for the game to change the art style to the same as Animal Crossing.

Well maybe its possible that developers can read the saved Mii character and translate your settings to an artstyle that matches their game. For instance if your Mii character has glasses and blond hair they could translate that to a chraracter with glasses and blond hair in an artstyle which is suitable for the game they are developing.

I think it's likely that the game would take the Mii data and adapt that to the art style of whatever minigames they showed in.

I'm sure the team knows that the greatly varied art styles is a big part of the charm. I doubt they'd break that without a very compelling reason.

Edit: Beaten!

You know if you waited say, 2 months to add Metal Slug to your collection - it isn't going to have run away.

Is there any word on Wii Play release for the US? I know its confirmed for launch in Japan and Europe but have not heard anything about the states.

Are we getting the packed in remote on it too? Is it launch?

I was talking to Bebpo this morning on AIM before I left for work, and he seemed pretty down on it, for some absurd reason. That said, Bebpo also said "I`ll probably get the Wii, but no games. I`ll get Zelda on Gamecube." The only game he wants to play on Wii is Fire Emblem.

Take that any way you want.

Why buy a system with no games? Well, nevermind. he doesnt have a choice... he'll be playing Wii Sports. :P

I have no clue. I totally didn`t agree with him. I`m beyond hyped for the wii. Iwata made me a believer that he knows how to turn around Nintendo. He turned around HAL. Then he showed that the DS can actually be more popular than the GBA. It`s only a matter of time.

Thanks for your impressions. Good sign that these early titles look convincing, hopefully it can only bode well for the next wave of games over the following 12 months. I'd like to see some of these early concepts refined and really expanded upon by Nintendo or 3rd parties that are inspired by what they see (and by what ends up selling).

Your comments about the Wii Sports titles are making me more convinced that it is a good title to have packed in with the console at launch.

Looking at the UK launch, without taking any bundles or deals retailers might instigate, for around ÂŁ210 you can now get a total package of Wii, Wii Sports, Wii Play, 2 Wiimotes, and 1 Nunchuck - which is actually a pretty good deal. That kind of pricing makes it more appealing as the "main" Christmas present parents might be buying for the family (or the kids).

so are nunchucks and wiimotes sold separately?

I like all the praise for bowling, hadn't read much impressions about applying spin to the ball before.

Zelda: Looked really good. The shaking of the contoller for sword play was not annoying. You can stab forward with the remote and it will make a stabbing motion with the sword. The hardest part of the demo was aiming to shoot the bow. It was really difficult. Fishing was also really cool. Reeling in with the nunchuck works really well.

the thing is, when you try to aim the bow, you dont need to use the wiimote like a laser pointer... when I played it at the NYC press con... all I did was keep the controller at my waist, and just used the wiimote to move the cross hairs, and I was picking enemies off like a sniper... and I had never touched the wiimote prior to that...

I think once everyone learns that the wiimote DOES NOT need to aimed like a laser pointer they will see how accurate it is.

If MP3's expert controls are jittery, I guess that means they don't have a dead-zone in there to eliminate it? Uh...why?

just a very small dead-zone, that was obivious from the conference vid. Maybe he was standing while playing, I think it would matter a lot if you were sitting down or standing up.

that goes for all games for that matter.

Glad to hear positive impressions on Excite Truck, I didn't try it at E3 but after seeing some videos I am really looking forward to it for some reason... but AWESOME news about the Metal Slug control schemes... I was just so damn worried I would be forced to use some gimmicky control scehem, when the classic controller would just be so perfect for the game. A definite purchase at launch.

Im glad you posted your impressions, helium. More and more, people are saying that you have to play with the controller to understand things. That's reassuring :)

As for PS3, Im sad to hear that Sonic is a disappointment. SA 2 was great and I was hoping that this game would be the true successor to it.

True dat. And I am being way overdramatic. But I need some SNK loving ASAP. I just had a nice 2, maybe 3 games planned to purchase at launch. Now if Metal Slug is out day 1... I won't be able to resist. Plus, I'm going to be getting much of my Wii-time in the holiday break from school, so really the more the merrier. 2 months down the line and I won't have as much time...

Metal Slug is launch? Well, add another 40-50 bones to my launch day purchases.

Word.

In reality, I am overjoyed, just gots to get my monies together!

Woowoo, the four games I preordered for launch all sound awesome. Almost makes up for no Metroid/Mario/Smash this year.

As I've been saying since E3...

Excite Truck = Wii killer app.

It was so damn fun. The only Wii game I waited in line to play a 2nd time.

Anihawk: you have made my day with the Metal Slug controls. Knowing that I can play that with Classic Controller/my Hori is great news. +1 sales.

Also, Excite Truck is really that good? Damn. I might have to get that for my birthday/Christmas. Wii launch is getting expensive.
