Where are you? In the US I don't think there's been a midnight release of anything.

I was half-joking, but I really do expect that a lot of it will be limited in nature. If Nintendo is so anal about friend codes, do we really expect to get complete access to the internet, which could be much more harmful for children?

There's a Parental Control system in the Wii for a reason. Opera will also tie into that.
 
Beta/Trial browser comes out Friday, is free

Final version comes out March. is also free.

won't cost anything until June is over with, thus July 1st, and then it's only a one-time charge of $5. the same price they're charging for NES VC games. no charge for using the browser either, like some thought.

can't beat that.



I checked my Wii within the last half hour, nothing yet. hopefully right after midnight it will be out, or before it gets light out. that'd be great. i just got some fresh AA batteries for my Wii because i was flat out of juice on every battery in the house and my rechargables are dead. but im all set now, including component cables for decent image quality for browsing at 640x480 or whatever resolution Opera runs at. it should be noticably better than browsing on Dreamcast with S-video.
 
Nintendo is taking things the right direction with the wii. They're really impressing me.

1. They offer family friendly titles that are exclusive to the system and are actually fun for all ages
2. They offer the most intuitive system for control
3. The control also offers, arguably the most "fun" controller
4. They offer an easy to use photo system that allows the transfer of pictures to friends
5. They will be now be offering surf from your couch channel (HUGE + is when they can allow youtube to play on people's tvs)
6. Retro titles thru the VC massive catalog coming with access to fairly inexpensive gaming (I do agree that the pricing should be lower)
7. Backwards compatible with GC lots of family friendly titles they problaby already have
8. The weather channel hey it's cool it incents you to turn on your wii every day more touches the better
9. The news channel that is coming I don't know what it will be like but just another reason to turn on your wii every day.
10. The mii channel what can I say fun, easy, interesting, and they are going to be in games!
11. Now your kids surf the net near you instead of a computer in their room or in a den or office. More kid control stuff.

Nintendo can be called a kiddy system for all I care but the biggest market is the people who want a family console and they offer a lot.

It will be free for those of us who already have Wiis.
 
How easy is it to type with Opera on the Wii? How fast can one switch between letters (and capitalizations), and with what precision? Is there support for accents, umlauts, and other similar foreign letters on the onscreen keyboard?

And oh - is it widescreen? :)
 
So far it works like a charm :) Just downloaded it. Dont have component cables at this moment so the text is to blurry on my tv at the moment, when I zoom in its alright and readable.

Youtube works perfectly.
Whenever you enter a text-inputfield, the Wii keyboard pops up.
There are 2 zoom levels.

scrolling/zooming is pretty bad.. zoom has only 2 different modes and scrolling is slow.. even if you point at the edges. i wish this had the 'grab' thing from forecast channel
 
the resolution is all weird for me. Got small black borders.

Scrolling seems too slow/sluggish.

Why not dpad!?
