Wii Opera Browser: Up for all regions!

I'm back on the PC too.

It sucks, absolutely sucks.

The biggets problem is the resolution output. I can't read a shit if not zoomed in, and scrolling the screen is painfully slow (WTF, why they didn't put the hold and rotate thing like in the earth model from Weatherchannel?)

It's nice only to check youtube an soo, which looks quite nice. No any other use I can imagine right now. And writting metod is so ****ing as hell slow...

So yes, the browser sucks and with the "I can't see a shit problem" I think it's over.

How fast to start up the internet channel after clicking it open?

20~30 seconds. It's pretty fast, and the webs load impressively fast (I expected a lot more slow loading)

How many people are experiencing lock ups? Happened to me twice so far, if people are getting by with no lock ups at all I might delete the channel and redownload it.

No Lockups for me, however i did experience a slight judder occasionally when playing some of the wiicade flash games and some flash movies.

I might try the same as you and see if it will fix it.

I just got my Wii, so excuse my stupid questions.

When it's finally able to be downloaded for those of us in the USA, it will be listed in Wii Ware, right? How long did it take to download?

RSS feeds display quite nicely. Favourited a few feeds I read in the morning so I have my own news channel :lol

I've had to do two hard resets. One when I first tried to start Opera (uh-oh) and another about 30 mins into using it when browsing.

Obligatory “posting from my Wii” message. It's not that bad, if they quadruple the scrolling speed it should be very usable. Also, the predictive text input works quite well. The page rendering is faster than I expected, so the scrolling speed is just a matter of tweaking the UI.

Its still a pretty cool addition to the Channel Library. After a month and a couple days since launch we already have 2 of the 3 Channels available. Cant blame fans for being exited.

oh i agree it's neat. It's neat on PS3 too! I was just saying why people didn't make a big deal about it then.

eh I actually have a practical reason to use the browser. One of my hot female friends refuses to get with the times and get a computer that can handle surfing the web at high speeds so her only way of getting online is with a Wii (and subsequently my only online communication with her besides the phone is through Wii messages). With the browser I can now send her links to stupid stuff on youtube and GAF. :)

(she's a nintendo fangirl so does not have a PS3 to do the same thing)

I'm the most excited about being able to be in bed and watch YouTube clips (and other sites like that). I don't have a laptop, so that something of a big deal for me, heh.

Back to the PC

Did some more testing. Pages load definetly faster on the Wii and, shock & awe, YouTube videos run much smoother.

Some glitches tho: the "watch again" button doesnt work on Wii.

Odd. The 'watch again' works fine for me.

Wow you guys, I am shocked. I thought for sure I could throw out my PC and use this browser exclusively.

WHAT WAS NINTENDO THINKING????

Sorry if this has already been asked.

Anyone else with a widescreen tv got those black bars around the browser? Any work around for this?

I just noticed what a large percentage of web “content” I usually “miss” due to Adblock. (still on Wii)

now Wii owners, if they choose too, will be able to see the first online pictures/videos of the next Nintendo systems, GameBoy Next, Wii2, DS2, when they are introduced, but using their Wii to see it instead of a computer. never before has this been possible on a NINTENDO :D

heh, during SpaceWorld 2000, i was not at a computer, but in my room, on my Dreamcast. I surfed over to GameSpot (or was it called Videogames.com then?) and saw the first posted picture of the GameCube.

it was this very picture IIRC

Omg I`m posting this on my Wii and I can't see shit! (uk)

O well better than nothing not sure if i`d pay money for this though

You'll only have to pay (500 Wii Points) from the 1st of July next year. But by then, we'll have the damn thing anyway. :)

Me too now you mention it - had black bars at the top which I thought strange as I never have bars any other time when using the Wii. I don't see it as a big deal, just a bit peculiar.

i feel like a 'tard

where exactly do you find the internet channel? I went to the shopping channel not there...update says its up to date...hmm...little help.

I went to the shopping channel, and then onto the Wii Software part and on it, it said I could download. :)

In WiiWare All I get is a small description about the internet channel and it getting released in the near future..wtf? Im in california btw.

The forecast channel worked fine and all this for some reason doesnt come up...

What time does Forecast channel up for US console? We might have to wait about the same amount of time for the browser, ie the damn thing still not up.

It's NOT up for US residents yet

same here man. I'm in Chicagoland. the small description of the Internet Channel and the picture of Google homepage, that has been there from Wii launch day, is still exactly the same as it has been. the download/update hasn't reached the U.S. yet.

Supposedly, 12:00am Pacific time the entire U.S. will get it, I guess, but that's not confirmed. I'm sure wii will get it a few hours before or after midnight. if UK, Europe and AU have it now, no way Nintendo would make the U.S. hold out for much longer. I guess they are sticking to the official release date, the 22nd or damn close to it.

Hmm, it loads and renders quickly, but yeah, the scroll speeds seem to be too slow when zoomed in. I agree with others that something like the Forecast Channel globe-scrolling methods and speeds would be a good thing.

There's single column view, but that doesn't make gaf any more readable - the font is way bigger than it needs to be. Either NeoGAF is just plain low-res unfriendly, or it seems like this Opera beta is missing some intermediate view options.

youtube does work like a charm though.

IT'S NOT FAIR that Wii in the United States don't have it yet. why oh why.

this is sheer AGONY :lol
but you guys have elebits, super swing golf & excite truck :/
btw just turned wiimote rumble and sound off, its annoying while browsing...

im browsing on my Dreamcast for what might be the last time if the Opera browser seems decent enough for me.

someone find out if there's a way to IRC chat. if there isnt, i wont turn my DC browsers into coasters. i love IRC'ing on console.
