Wii Opera Browser: Up for all regions!

Can't believe they dont have a quick font size change.

They really should include that. It's a basic on the PC and I use it quite regularly with my projector.

Are you Wii browers wishing for a few more shortcuts on the wiimote when it comes to the on-screen keyboard?

What is the predictive text like...as good as on mobile phones? How easy is it to cycle through the different word possibilities it provides?

I know this is a trial beta type shindig, but do we know what kind of features they are going to try and implement in the final version in March?

Is anybody else having trouble with Youtube? I can't watch anything on there. It says that I need to turn on Javascript or upgrade Flash.

Embedded videos on other sites work, so why can't I just search Youtube?

What I'd like to see.

a) Highlighting please.
b) A+B = Refresh page.
c) D-Pad up/down = top/bottom of page.
d) More consistent zoom scaling. Works great at 1Up. Not so much for GAF and other message boards, although that just might be the nature of message boards.
e) Y'know, sometimes when I use a period it's because I just want to end a sentence.us
f) Tabs, that little black bar at the top of the screen is just begging for 'em.
g) The ability to listen to .mp3s and such in the browser. Gotta get mah podcasts.

It doesnt seem to make sense that it works for some people and other people need updates to java. This is a single console we are talking about not a bunch of differently configured PCs running diferent versions of windows right? :lol WTF?

Ok, what the hell? I was just watching anything I wanted on youtube and suddenly it's telling me about javascript and flash or something. I didn't even leave the site, I was watching things fine a minute before.

The very same clips I just watched perfectly fine don't even work now!

Not seeing the why yet, but sometimes on youtube/wiicade it suddenly will tell me I need to enable Javascript. Then on a refresh it's fine.

Chalk it up to beta woes.

Refresh, eh? I'll try that.

p.s. zooming in on Jenna Fischer's tits during interviews is awesome.

EDIT: Didn't work. Google video still works, and it looks better too....it just has **** all clips on it compared to youtube.

I seem to have noticed that when I zoom in on a quoted portion of text in a GAF post, I get a VERY NICE Perfectly positioned, readable "zoom".

When I zoom out side of a "certain range/area", I get a crappy ass overzoom that caused me to have to side scroll...

so are there different levels of zoom that are case specifice to what the pointer/cursor is pointing/cursing at?

I tried to lightly tap the zoom buttons on Wiimote, but I don't think that made a difference; and I don't think that the buttons on the Wiimote are pressure sensitive anyway (are they/any of them?)

get back to beta testing this shit GAF!

Edit: The "range" I mentioned is SUPER TINY: a little bit to the left/right/top/bottom, and Opera Zooms in too far................ :(

The zoom seems to be programmed to catch on preformatted text boxes. For example, if you zoom in on an article at 1Up, no matter where you click in the text body, the zoom will give you a perfectly framed and centered view of the text. Zoom in on a picture or something on the same page though, and it'll do the regular superzoom that you get when browsing GAF.

Black bar about 1/10th the width of the screen on each side and top. And Youtube doesn't work. :(
the black bars are likely to compensate for overscan. that's why some people aren't seeing them i'd bet.

Posting in a legendary thread from my Wii. Let's see if the Wii can guess these words.

lol
roffles
pokeman
downgrade:this is the winner. The predictive text failed until this word. Let's you know where Ninty's is at. 1337. Lettuce. roffles. WROT. A.B.C... Now you go...

Umm, I'm not doubting you, but just to see what you were seeing, since I hadn't thought of browsing 1up yet, I decided to go to check it out.

I went to the 4 feature story: The Card Fighters DS Preview, and when I zoomed in on the article, anywhere that I tried to zoom, I got a superzoom level of zoom......

....but BENEATH the article, where it says: NCS IMPORT PREVIEW, that section does the same "Perfect Zoom" that's done to the Quoted/Boxed portion of text in GAF posts. (When zoomed from the "perfect 'range'")

.....sigh.......

i'm basically just wishing for a mouse/keyboard

I think you might have those on your computer.

Why would anyone want to use this browser aside from being able to use Wiimote?

Watch out guys. I had my Classic controller hooked up to my Wiimote and when I hit the home button, the finger disappeared. It seemed like a small thing and it resolved once I unhooked the classic controller but if you go to the home screen to get back to the Channels menu and you can't see your finger/hand icon, that may be it. Small thing easily resolved and this is only a beta, I guess.

So does anyone have any advice for me? After trying to download this, my system quit showing up on my television screen.

I tried hooking it up to other tvs...the system powers up, but there is no image or sound. I even tried using the composite hook-ups that the system came with...nothing.

Nintendo is currently receiving a "high volume of calls," so I don't know what to do.

Try one of the editor blogs or the Retronauts feature. Those are the ones I tried and got the result I got.

Exactly. First thing to think about when putting something (like HUD, menu, etc) on a TV screen is overscan. So the usable display area is really about 5-10% from the edge of the picture. If they don't follow that guideline, they'd get tons of users complaining the picture getting cut off.

Cool site.. Just a little chiptune music for the Wii. :D

The Wii browser is still a novelty so I'm still having fun. That said, it's certainly good for the first beta release. I'm hoping for some subtle usability improvements, as many have said already:

* more page zoom levels
* updated Flash version
* allowing for the lower menu to slide offscreen
* proper mousepointer handling (hiding, etc) inside Flash windows
* font resizing support
* dpad to fuction as arrow keys

Once the novelty wears off, I'm not sure how much I'll use it. I do know that I'll use it more than never.

Unless Youtube start working again with the Opera browser for Wii (final version solving it ? it is strange for embedded youtube video even on the Youtube web site working, but nothing else inside Youtube... darn I must have launched that Rocky Balboa clip quite enough already), I will be pissed everytime I look at the Internet Channel icon.

Youtube's working fine for me now.

I expect the browser will become more useful as people start designing sites specifically for the wiimote and viewing on this version of Opera. I don't mind about any slowness in typing, I have no desire to use a message board or chatroom from my couch, but things like youtube are actually better and require little typing.

Are motion gestures implemented? Imo that's one of the best things from the pc version and would work great with the wiimote. :)

Yeah, the first editor blog I tried worked, and the subsequent comments below the blog are in the same readable format all the way down!!! kinda nice.......wish it worked on GAF like that.........

.....i have faith that it will though; GAF has POWER! /Grahf
