Wii Opera Browser: Up for all regions!

I like it so far, and I'll try to keep my complaints down until I see what the final version has, but youtube should deinitely be working. It worked earlier this morning, so what happened?

It's far more likely that youtube have changed something in the code during the day than the actual browser being broken.

Well did they change it back 10 minutes later? Mine's been working on and off, not just on then off.

I'm not a big tech guy so i dont know if this would work, but is it possible to create web pages that have Wiimote specific content on them.

Like a site like Newgrounds or Ebaums but all the flash games are mapped to a Wiimote instead of keyboard and mouse. Another thing that would be cool is a site in the vain of youtube only that its meant to be seen thru our 640 x 480 SD TV resolutions.

just wondering if any of this is possible and if there have been any news of people already trying to accomplish this. one would think there is a lot of money to be made if one could launch a site that caters to the wii crowd.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wii flash games start to catch on...just depends on what the flashmakers decide to do. I know ABS already has a Wii section, how long until the other flash sites like Newgrounds start to have Wii sections too?

Well Wii Opera froze on me while watching Google Video. To be fair, it was an half hour long show. About 2/3 through, the Wii make a sound like an air siren, and I had to unplug the Wii inorder to turn it off.

Now Youtube stopped working, asking for javascript and flash 8.

Finally, on surfing GAF on column mode, in the hellgate thread, after scrolling past the second picture, Opera would refresh, and after scrolling again, go straight to the home screen.

Ah well, it is beta after all, and curveball on wiicade is awesome.

I just came from giving it a test drive :D
I designed a Wii related page a few weeks ago without even thinking about the opera browser. When I opened it today, WHAM! turns out the page is tailor-made for Wii! And I didn't even take the page's size into consideration! This is frikkin unbelievable. I'm all giddy about my page now <3<3<3<3.

What is this crap about Flash 8 now? I haven't gone into Youtube yet.

Is anyone else's browser constantly freezing on them? when i downloaded it there was an error that happened that made me redownload it again until it finished and it happened again each time i deleted it and redownloaded. Would that possibly be the reason for the freezing or is it a problem with my connection or the server itself?

Hm, with weezo it's possible to stream video/music from your windows box (you need a decent cpu, since all content is re-encoded on the fly to flash video f.ex.), it's just a shame that there's no fullscreen option for flash objects in the browser yet. :/ It works, though. I'm going to try out vibestreamer next, as it seems like a much nicer solution for mp3 streaming.

I seem to have noticed that when I zoom in on a quoted portion of text in a GAF post, I get a VERY NICE Perfectly positioned, readable "zoom".

When I zoom out side of a "certain range/area", I get a crappy ass overzoom that caused me to have to side scroll...

so are there different levels of zoom that are case specifice to what the pointer/cursor is pointing/cursing at?

I tried to lightly tap the zoom buttons on Wiimote, but I don't think that made a difference; and I don't think that the buttons on the Wiimote are pressure sensitive anyway (are they/any of them?)

get back to beta testing this shit GAF!

Edit: The "range" I mentioned is SUPER TINY: a little bit to the left/right/top/bottom, and Opera Zooms in too far................ :(

yeah there definitely is different levels of zoom, so it seems like they have put some thought into. i first really noticed while i was browsing VideoSift and sometimes the videos would be bigger than the viewable area when zoomed in while sometimes it'd fit quite nicely.

i had also wondered why when i was reading news articles from various sites the text always just fit so i didn't really have to scroll. seems like it zooms in enough so that whatever page element you're pointing at will fit the screen. :) nice.

You sure weezo works? I tried accessing it to no avail.

Mon--

erhm. Yeah.

To people like me with no laptop... it's pretty useful. Maybe for Google Maps, ordering food, and showing guests some shit (youtube, etc)...

and it's free.
Well, yeah but I can't imagine any of those things being faster via the Wii than typing on your computer, laptop or not....
I mean, yeah it's cool but it's just so frivolous even if I only had a desktop.

try spending more time with the virtual keyboard :lol you can edit on Wii you know :)

now you know what Dreamcast owners have been able to do since 1999... only faster as far as typing. :D

I miss not being able to play MP3s, I could do that with
the PW2.0 Dreamcast browser--I would often just play 30 second
song clips from songsearch.com--tried that today on Wii Opera, no dice.

there are alot of things the different DC browsers could do
that Opera on Wii cannot do, at least not yet -- even though there are
things Wii Opera can do that the DC browsers couldnt.

Ive got a homebrew English version of Dream PassPort Premier that
plays music while you surf and also has dual surf mode with a window
on the top and bottem so you can view two webpages at once.

PS3 browser looks crazy cool with the ability to have SIX webpages
up at the same time. SIXINTERWEBS :lol

i like how the browser is up but it's useless for me. for some reason my wii goes at the speeds of like a 14k modem, when i have it wirelessly set up to my router. i also have my laptop set up through my same cable modem router and it works fine and is fast.

plus does the wii have an ethernet port, because i don't see one.

Everytime I log into GAF, it doesn't remember shit. Que?

Youtube is working fine for me now. It hadn't been working all day. Though embedded video worked perfectly the whole time so it's possibly something they were doing with the site that prevented us from viewing videos properly. Seems to be fixed now

Grr, I got all excited, and weezo loaded so nice, everything was set up, but wii just will NOT go to my weezo site, i tried it from another computer, works fine, a friends computer, works fine, but wii wont let me hit up my weezo page...any ideas?

If this weezo can really convert video files to flash on the fly, then whooo, i really want this to work.

It works, yodandy, only thing is that you'd have to click on the FRA link instead of the ENG one to work, but it doesn't ever show up on US Wiis. If only there was an enter button or a keyboard adapter.

I entered my exact weezo site into my wii, nothing, i even made an html page, with a link, to my weezo site, clicked it from the wii, and it gives me page unavailable.

Vibestreamer doesnt work either, i can access the page...but i either have to double click or drag the song to the playlist to get it to start, and neither work :lol :lol

has anyone found a decent way to ghetto rig the wii into a quick media center yet? :lol

You could try the gmail mp3 player in flash.. just copy the following link and append the link to an mp3 at the end of it.

http://mail.google.com/mail/html/audio.swf?audioUrl=

Like, for example if you wanted to listen to the latest 1up yours podcast.. then the link would look like this:

http://mail.google.com/mail/html/au...//zdmedia.vo.llnwd.net/o1/Podcasts/122206.mp3

thx i will give that a try.

what i loved about DC interwebbing, there was often a way around a limitation to do something that it wasn't intended for.

I think you might have those on your computer.

Why would anyone want to use this browser aside from being able to use Wiimote?

What, you think using the wiimote is some novelty and the reason I wanted to use a Wii browser? :lol

For one, I'd use a (workable) browser to easily access streaming tv shows of course, and occasionally if I wanted to shoot off to any random site it'd be infinitely easier with mouse/keyboard. Even if I saw something neat on youtube and wanted to post on a forum real quick, for example.

And youtube watching is better on a TV, no doubt.

the black bars are likely to compensate for overscan. that's why some people aren't seeing them i'd bet.
Is this a bug or safeguard in Opera, or are you supposed to fix/override this yourself on the TV?
I just got my RGB-scart cable today, and now I get the borders too (it's not there when I use composite). It doesn't show up in any games, nor the shopping channel (which use the Opera engine), so I kinda suspect a bug. Strikes me as something they should have managed to iron out in the first tests though... :\

this is pretty awesome. typing is a bit of a hassle but it`s fast and playing flash games is fun.

oh and this stupid .us crap pisses me off!

It worked before, but now no pages will load. Apparently I'm the only one with this problem, which means I don't get to use the feature that everybody seems to be loving.

has anyone got google video to work?

yes. Google Video was working better than Youtube earlier, but now they're about the same since Youtube is working again on Wii.

I watched some music.aol.com music videos on Google Video which are in much higher quality than youtube videos. I also watched the 1:15 hour long SpaceWorld 2000 event where Gamecube was revealed. it stopped quite a few times so I had to start the cashe going again by moving the slider, but that happens on PC anyway.
