Wii Points cards 40% off at TRU

Only one local Toys R Us had any Wii Points cards, and they only had two.

I know it's a "limited to supplies on hand", but I'm getting sick of near bait-n-switch deals where there is a paltry number of the item desired on hand.
When did you go in? If you were there in the afternoon or evening, I can't see how you can fault them for people who came in in the morning and bought dozens.

The afternoon.

I never said I -expected- to find piles of things ... I didn't. I was just venting over the fact that Toys R Us seems to have extremely limited supplies of ANYTHING gaming related when they have sales. Granted, I never really go in there at any other time, but having a sale that runs two days but runs out of nearly all the supply in the first two hours seems silly.

I suppose I just want more stuff at the TRU.

(The fact that none of the local stores ever carried the "Perfect Shot" doesn't help.)

Blah, I was just kind of hinting at this in the VC thread before seeing this one was bumped...

But personally, while I found no Wii points cards at the shop closest to me, I found six at one that was about half an hour away and eleven or twelve more at another that was about twelve minutes away from there. Not that I bought all of those (
I would have, but my debit card wasn't being accepted and I had to just use as much cash as I had on hand D:
), but just saying that it's not necessarily limited quantities... And I wasn't at those places until after 1:00 PM. The guy at the third store even commented that he usually couldn't sell Wii points cards to people even though they had the stock to do so.

I used the TRU online notification for when they get new wii point cards in stock... so far I've been notified 3 times of them being available, but they are always "out of stock" when I click through to the page. The last availability was at about 1:45AM PST -- and I checked at that very point.

Sigh.

I wonder what TRU's markup is on Wii Points cards...

Anyone know if they even sell these at "Babies R Us", or if the promotion works there? It's the closest thing to where I work, but I don't want to burn the lunchtime if they aren't even going to have it (I'm guessing the answer is no).

Did you ask someone to check in the back? When I went, the cashier in the gaming area didn't even know what a Wii Point card was, so she called someone else, who went in the back, and pulled out a box of them.

Hot damn, I called my Toysrus and they have one more in stock! I'm still bitter about everyone else buying a billion of them for themselves though.

Well, the deal is only for two days, and you can always call before going there. It is indeed a sale intended to get customers in the door, but if you're smart about it you don't have to waste your time.

I'll take this kind of sale rather than no sale at all.

Yes always do this, yesterday several people thought some games were sold out but they asked the checker to go to the back and there were cases of games.

The point of this sale is to move slow moving product out alongside some impulse purchases (hence the timing of the B2G1 sale).

TRU is not going to make it easy for you guys, they want to sell the cards for $20 if its possible so of course they will show limited stock yesterday and today on the shelves. if you dont ask them in person to check the back you might be missing out.

I've called 5 TRU's now. All sold out, seems I missed the boat. Shame too, I would spend around $100 for points at this price.

I ask the associate over the phone if they have any in back stock and the awnser I get is "whats on the floor is all we have".

I really hate when people ask me this during big sales. why the hell would I keep product off the shelf that people want to buy?

Heh, when I worked at Best Buy I would say "Let me check" if someone asked me if we had an item in the back that I knew was sold out. I would run to the stockroom as a formality to keep the customer happy.

Because stores do it all the time? Because a lot of people working at said stores can be pretty lazy about putting out more stock?

You sure are earning your pay, huh?

Because retail stores do it all the time, when I worked retail in the late 90's I was instructed by the chains I worked for to keep a certain % in the back. It was not deliberate like some evil plan but you do not want the customer thinking nobody is buying it (by seeing so much product) and you want to keep the illusion the item is hot and flying off the shelves.

Its not a hard concept to follow, with Wii Points cards you keep a lower stock out and then when people ask you run to the back and say "we had some back there, they seem to be going fast" which often times due to impulse and a suggestion of a good deal (40% off) makes the consumer by more which increases the sale

TRU has massive competition with chains like Best Buy, Circuit City and now Target and Walmart.

Also a lot of TRU's are staffed by high school students or clerks who just plainly dont care, so trust me they are not running to the back to see if everything is on the shelf if it runs out because that would be "work". Anyone who has ever worked at TRU especially knows this

Well 7 stores called, all sold out. This is such a bummer because there is a ton of stuff I want to buy.

I'm still thinking about getting a Nyko Perfect Shot &/or another Classic controller at this price though. I don't know if I should bite or not.

I wish the local TRU had a Perfect Shot -- I'd gladly buy it from them. They have them online, but I'm not sure I can come up with $50 of stuff to buy from TRU online (to get free shipping) that I will have NO reason to return.

Eh, suck it up, shipping on a perfect shot is like 3 bucks. At this price + tax + shipping you're STILL coming out cheaper than retail.

Well after calling my local TRU and being told over the phone there were no cards left, I decided I would at least take a drive up there to get a classic controller.

Just for kicks I asked agian "can you check your backstock for Wii Point cards?". Guy dissapears for 5 minutes, comes back out with a handful of 5 of them. Hot Dang.

The store clerk even said "yeah we had some guy call earlier looking for these, I thought we didnt have any so I told him they were gone". I just kept my mouth shut as I walked off with 10,000 points & another Classic Controller for $72. MAN I love deal shopping.

Just picked up 3x 2k wii point cards and two classic controllers...for $64.

For anyone in NYC, the Toys r Us in Times Square is jam packed with classic controllers, wiis, wii fits, and 2k wii point cards. Game selection is limited however, if you're looking to take advantage of the b2g1 free deal.

Just got back from my local TRU and they said that the Point Cards aren't part of the 40% off. I asked the salesclerk to scan one at the register to make sure and it came up at the regular $19 price. Does the discount only show up when the actual sale is made?

Nope. One of the sales reps at the TRU where I bought mine actually questioned whether or not it's on sale. He took the product over to a scanner and confirmed it.

Anyone with a ton of those cheap TRU points want to gift me 2300points worth of stuff for 18 dollars paypal? Just throwing it out there....

DING DING DING DING. I can't remember the last time my Best Buy had everything I wanted to buy out. It always takes them at least two or three days after release to put our a lesser-known game or movie.

My San Antonio TRU got in 11 Wii Points cards in today...the last day of the sale (the only other TRU didn't have any)...

....I bought all 11 and saved $88 bucks!!!

Im so incredibly pissed off i was told the cards didnt aply to the sale. God damnit tRU sucks. I really wanted Secret of Mana :(

Just picked up a card an hour ago. While I was there, I looked through the clearance basket and saw EBA for $5 (most stores have them marked at $10)! :O

I had the same thing happened. They said that Nunchucks/Remotes/Points cards didn't apply.

I'd gladly give someone $15 bucks for 1 of the 2000 point cards since some of you got upwards of 6 of them.

You should always have them do a price check, never take a TRU employees word. It would show on the price checker or the register that it was 40%, it did not have to be sold in order to reflect the discount

I went this afternoon to both our Des Moines Iowa area stores (Valley West and Southridge) and it looked like a freaking hurricane had hit both since 3pm yesterday! They had only wiimotes and nunchucks left at 1 and a SD card and some Wii Fit bags at the other.

I asked the clerks to check in the back and they went and said it had been cleaned out of cards, had no reason to doubt them since there were barely any other accessories left it would have at least been a sale.

Why didn't you just tell them to scan it through? It doesn't matter what they say. The computer makes the call unless it's an error.

Yeah, its a 20 minute drive though, and considering I drive a 93 suburban, the savings would've been a wash :lol
