Wii sales grow 1700% on Amazon

So guys, I'm curious.

When Excitebots was at 4000 or so, it must have sold like at least one copy, right?

Then a 50k increase would mean it sold over 50,000 copies?

Or am I reading this wrong?

50000 PERCENT, not units.

IF it sold one copy, it will now have sold 500

Just a rank increase unfortunately.. see this.

They most certainly are.

It's the current position divided by the previous position.

For Wii: 19/1 = 19 times = +1800%

For ExciteBots: 4,077/8 = 509.625 times = +50,862%

It doesn't work like that.

1 - 17 is a 1700% increase

Just saying a percentage increase without a number is useless. Just like Chart - Track and the 999% PS3 increase.

4 077 / 8 = 509.62500

edit: beaten

Anyway, it says right on the page "The biggest gainers in Video Games sales rank over the past 24 hours."

I see.

I shouldn't do maths when tired.

(Although google tells me you divide the difference of the two numbers by the original number, which is why I couldn't see the logic.)

The chart track number was actually unit increase though. This is (apparently?) is just rank increase. So though they may both be fairly useless without the absolute unit figures they're not quite the same...to begin to even guess at the unit increase with this, you're reduced to trying to figure out what the unit sales difference is between #19 and #1 or whatever.

1700%...I still remember this:

Nintendo what have you to beat that? Wait, did someone say Excitebots...

Oh...
50000excite.png

I wonder if Amazon UK will be doing anything like this when we get our "value-added" Wii bundle?
Probably not, we don't have those Gold Box deals or deals of the day

Yeah. I see now how these numbers are essentially useless. Alas, September NPD awaits.

Oh, I thought it was units.

If it's just a rank this is nothing. No conclusion can really be drawn.

The only real conclusion that can be made is that units being moved are moving software though. That list has a ton of wii sfotware jumping from all over the list much higher.

Really looking forward to E3 this summer for Nintendo. I like the new price point and what to jump in but I want to see what's in store for next fall. I'll wait until then to grab one.

Argh, damn this thread. Fine. You win. I just bought one on Amazon.

Whatever, friends wedding coming up in 2 weeks. It'll make a nice present for them.

Amazon?
Really?
Realllly?
Is this what we are back to?

It's always the first indicator. It's limited of course but at least you know things have gone 'up'.

We should start petitioning for realtime npd results and stuff. GAF would probably never sleep.

Even before the slim, the PS3 has been in the top 20 for a very long time on Amazon.

Yes, but it was never close to the Wii.

Also, ExciteBots (and other software) is in the top-ten because in addition to the gift card deal on the console itself, they also put a lot of software on sale.

My brick and mortar Gamestop still had $200 on the used box, and besides that, I think $150 used is a fairer deal considering you now will need to buy Wii Motion Plus.

Did it ring up to that price? Or did it just say that on the display? Because GS employees are lazy fucks.

I just bought one today (but from Best Buy.)

By the way, SMG has, I dunno, greatest soundtrack of all time?

By the way again, I played the Wii for about 30 minutes using composite cables on my HDTV. You hear that Wii graphics are hideous, and you see them here and there are parties or whatever, but it really takes a few quiet moments alone in the living room to absorb just how fucking repulsive a game can look over composite stretched over 46 inches.

Looks better with component, but damn, that shit will haunt me.

Rank.

That is the % an item's rank raised, not sales. It is determined by what it was 24 hours before hand. In this case, 19th position in the best sellers list.

1,800%
Sales Rank in Video Games: 1 (was 19)
847%
Sales Rank in Video Games: 122 (was 1,156)
etc.

Yes, it is sales rank. The percentages match up so why is this even an argument?

I requoted this because it seems like people still don't understand it.

It's certainly one of the best and in my opinion one of the few games this generation that actually deserves all the hype , awards and praise.

Ah yes, a friend of mine had to play through Zelda TP for about a week with composite cables on a HDTV because NoE hadn't shipped component cables yet. Such an awful and blurry mess :lol

wait, theres a gift card with amazon? I didnt see an option for one (I just bought it). Is your account auto credited? :(

I know it's Amazon, but man those ExciteBots percentages are just awesome :lol
I think they should price drop it everywhere, promote the fucking shit out of it, and it can appear in the NPD top 10 randomly like when GameStop dropped GH Aerosmith to 10 bucks.

The crappy Wii bundle my store has even sold out(they started the rebate from Nintendo on Friday for some reason and its still over priced and was only 50 dollars cheaper), was 50 bucks that big of a deal?
If $50 wasn't a big deal, most of history's price cuts have been pointless.

There's also that people who still haven't bought one after 2 or 2.5 years may feel that if they've gone without this long, they might as well wait a little longer until the inevitable price cut. Now that it's done and another will be no time soon, there's no more reason to wait.

I to will be swallowing this pill very soon. I rue the day, rue it!

I dont get people who are like It's only $50 so what. It is a price cut and in fact its a normal price cut. You do 100 dollar price cuts when your system is selling like shit and it is overpriced.

The Wii has also reached what most consider that $199 barrier point so its all good for Nintendo

We went through this with the PS3 threads long ago, but I would never take Amazon as an indication of the magnitude of any sales increase.

That sales will increase after a price drop is about the only thing this proves, but we already knew that.

It may have the best soundtrack of any Nintendo game ever. I fucking love the music.

Anyway, I know it's Amazon, but this thread is bringing back the EXCITE!!!

Ehhh, I wouldn't go that far. The $300->$200 drop was pretty standard, even for a decently-performing system like PS2... which then went on to break new ground by following it up with a measly $20 price cut.

Wait, when did 'Bots + Wheel go to $20?

If this is a new thing, then no wonder it jumped so high on the charts.
