Wii Sports Resort

Does anybody remember this game?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c9/Captain_America_game_flyer.png

It's begging for a 3D motion plus update. Hawkeye's bow, Captain America's shield, Replace Vision with Thor and use Thor's fuckin hammer? I really shouldn't get myself excited about games that will never be. But this would be awesome.

I see no reason why those ideas couldn't be used in a future Marvel Ultimate Alliance game or something.

how many levels are there in Showdown? im a couple in on the reverse set...

i notice that sword fighting works really well in a dim room but today with sunlight coming in the window next to me it made it unplayable.

Sword Fighting duals are so much fun once you go up in points. The AI really kicks in and the duals become a lot more drawn out and intense.

I must suck because I can't pass 1400 points in AI duals. They're masters of blocking!

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

If you thought Island Flyover had lots to do, think again: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=167274&st=0&p=2148797&#entry2148797.

I don't think I'll ever be able to collect everything! Island Flyover GOTF CONFIRMED!

EDIT: By the way, the link above has screens of every location for the "i" points for those looking for them.
Yeah, Island Flyover is amazing.

The secret targets in archery are hard to get!

EDIT: Do the targets count if you restart or do you have to actually finish and go to the final screen? I get terrible scores and I don't want my points to go down to get Pro!

turn off sensor bar assist in the day?

So today, I played some more. Things that need to be said:

1. Frisbee Golf is awesome. It was a hit in my household, everyone was hooked. Oh, and Resort C is insane (and I've only played three-hole matches). Joy, joy, joy.

2. I am now getting the hang of the slightly tweaked Bowling. Finally managed to score above 200. Also, 100-pin bowling is bizarre (and highly enjoyable).

3. Wakeboarding is a bit whateverish, but I can see how someone might find it addictive.

4. Despite all the hours I've played, I haven't touched Cycling yet and I've barely scratched Power Cruising, Canoeing, and Air Sports.

5. Sword play continues to be LOVE.

They could, but unfortunately, they probably won't be.

I agree Leveling up is a lot different in WSR than it was WS. In WS, once you found out what the game wanted you to do, you just had to pull off that one maneuver over and over and you'd win, no matter what the difficulty was. With WSR, especially in sword fighting, it really is a duel of skill. Every match feels like a unique battle.

Best ad NOA's ever done. Third parties should pick up on this when they advertise their games. The focus is on what the players are doing more than what's going on inside the game ("escape to reality"). That's what sells Wii games.

Seriously? They run at least every commercial break here... :lol
Nope . . . o_o
I live in Chicago and I have been mainly only looking at "The N"/ NToons/ Toon Disney/ CN and NBC seeing as I don't look at too much TV. Thought I would see this on atleast 1 of these channels but I haven't.

Today was my first time seeing it . . . and thats because I youtubed it to see if there actually were some ads.

3rd parties could learn alot from Nintendo . . . but they are too busy blaming them for their down falls.

I watched like 1 hour of television today and I saw it like 4 times, and this is Mexico I'm talking about. It was on nickelodeon.

This game is awesome. I can't believe all the hate for cycling. Cycling is vastly underrated. If you haven't tried co-op cycling yet, you're missing out.

I don't really get what's new. I already completed all the 3 courses (day/evening and night) with the 80 I points each times and even popped all the white balloons.

What it gives is:
When you find all the I points for the first time you can see how many I point are left to find when you start a new course, you also have all the remaining white baloon to pop at the end of the course. Also you have a little cottage with your Mii face as a flag on the large deserted island.

I haven't seen anything else. >_>'

The game is addicting as shit. All of the games I've played are good, but my favorites are basketball and sword fighting (the slicing one is best).

I'd be much more inclined to agree if the plane wasn't so darn slow.

Is there any way to speed it up other than jabbing your arm forward every two seconds? I spent a minute and a half just flying to "Wedge Island"! :lol

I really like this game more than the original because it is very fun even for single player.
I didn't really like the original one because I don't always get people to play with. But this one has a lot of goals/stamps which make me want to go back all the time.
I only have 1 Motion+ but I already have a lot of fun (even when me and my family/friends are just passing controller).

Well, it goes faster when you cut your engine :p I don't know if it's efficient for Wedge island but it works to go quickly from the top of the volcano to the Sweet beach. Only problem: you have to go quite high.

It might help if you approach it from another angle, pretend you're an old man with a heart problem, just relax, fly along peacefully and enjoy the scenery :)

Power Cruising 3/4
Archery 4/4
Table Tennis 3/4
Frisbee 3/4
Air Sports 4/4
Bowling 3/4
Sword Fight 3/4
Canoeing 1/4
Wakeboarding 3/4
Cycling 3/4
Golf 2/4
Basketball 3/4

Almost all of the sports are pretty entertaining. My favorite are Archery and Air Sports. The only one I hate is canoeing.

p.s. is there any way to view individual's stamps more easily without actually going into each game?

I wish they brought back the music from Super Mario Sunshine. That was such as great tropical theme music. It stuck in my head even like 7 years after I played it.

3-point shoot out is your bitch, f'kin love that game.
3-point contest would be my favorite if I could figure out what the fuck is wrong with the first rack. I can rack up 20-23 points on the last 4 racks but I don't think I've even made a shot from the first rack yet. Every shot is way off the mark. Starting to piss me off....

3 point shoot out is my favorite, despite it being nothing else than a 30s gameplay session.
It just feels so good, a real tactile experience. We need a basketball game using these mechanics. I tried to see if the chord of the nunchuck would be a problem, and the answer is no, it would work just as well.

Just picked it up tonight at Walmart. Been playing for a couple hours so far. Sword Fight, Table Tennis, Archery, and the 3-Point Contest are the top ones for me so far. I actually got ball to the face stamp on one of my first tries in Table Tennis. :lol

This is way, way better than WS.

Table Tennis champion is a bitch. Yesterday I finally a point against her. But other than that, it's 0-6 after 0-6.

Canoeing co-op is good laughs.

Really enjoying almost all of the events, love the Island Flyover mode. Interesting how far along the island was back in 2006: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG201q53b8U&NR=1

In terms of tech and art direction very few Wii-titles can compete with WSR.
Is it just me or does the water in that old video look much better than in the current form?

EDIT: Damn... this is frustrating. I can only get 3 games for the rest of the year (budget restrictions ftl), but I can't decide between 4 games. I thought I had it all planned out till I started seeing more videos on Wii Sports Resort and how awesome it looks. :(

Which 3 games do you guys recommend: New Super Mario Bros Wii, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Punch Out!!, or Wii Sports Resort.

Punch-Out is really good, but Resort is a must buy IMHO, go for it.

Other people have made the same comment. What do you think they changed?
They added a lot more trees, scenery, Mii's, etc (and added a lot of movement to make it feel more alive). The E3 2006 demo had a few trees and buildings... but not a whole lot else. I'd assume that's why they made it look worse in the current version.

If you have ever played Punch-Out!! I would hold on Punch-Out!!! I love the original, and the new one is a great update, but it's more of the same (most fighters are the same, etc). I would buy that at 20€ at most. Metroid Trilogy can be skipped if you have played all three Prime games. You can get it in the future second hand or discounted.

So only two must-haves in that list (I would consider on getting GST or Tiger Woods 10, because they're awesome and come bundled with M+).

New Super Mario Bros. (I was in love with the first game) and Wii Sports Resort are pretty much already bought in my mind after spending the last two hours watching videos/reading impressions. Now I just have to decide between Metroid Prime Trilogy and Punch Out!!. God damn it. There's way too many good games coming out this year.

I never thought I'd say that...

I've never played Punch Out!! nor have I played Metroid Prime 1/2 (I've played 3 though).

Well, I would rather recommend trying the NES version of Punch-Out!! then. Okay, it's not as smooth and impressive, but the game is mostly the same and it's 5 bucks. So, well, PUnch-Out!! for Wii is the better game, but it's not 10x better to justify the price.

Definitely worth buying. You get 12 good games, each with multiple modes and a Wii MotionPlus in one package. You're almost certain to find at least 2-3 sports that you really like, so go for it.

I'm beginning to like Frisbee Dog more and more. That puppy is cute.

Haha, me too.

Managed to pass 100 on the return challenge now, just using backhands :lol

Two things :

- I love the sword showdown theme. It's like traditional Japan empire meets lego.
- Love the table tennis game, but anyone else feels like the M+ is more likely to fail here ? Maybe I move too much (like in a real match I guess :lol ), but the paddle is quite often not like it's supposed to be (and makes me miss a few hits).

My roommate, who is generally an MMO or FPS only gamer, spent nearly twelve hours with this today. He loves it and that's cool, but he's one of those people who only loves games when they're excelling. If he's up in table tennis it's the best thing ever, if he's losing, the computer is a cheating bastard and motion+ is broken and the game sucks.

Also, basketball and archery are a huge hit here. The promise of a perfect score in the shootout is so strong but always just out of reach for everyone, my friend spent 90 minutes here longer than he expected because he wanted to get a high score.
