Wii U Basic is £144 at Scan Today Only

Fence sitters, it probably won't get cheaper than this after the games start coming out.

Thanks for the PSA, Horse Armour.
The only way I can see that happening is if every other retailer besides GAME drops the console. In short, unlikely. Current trajectory in the UK is not good however you try and spin the release schedule.

Removed everything you can get elsewhere for cheaper and in most cases performs better.

err I just bought it ten minutes ago....

This is how it looks for me in firefox, chrome, ie10. Even when you press on with fake details, at no point could I input an address that is not in these territories.

Damn missed this post, was just searching the page and couldn't find it then realised it was a 1 day only yesterday.

They update at 3pm. I ordered mine at 6pm so it should have been there until 3pm today. It wasn't there last night at about 9pm as I was going to post the link to a friend and couldn't find it. They either did a really late update, or they pulled it from the today-only page after a couple of hours as it's still showing in stock.

Wow, already regretting a Wii U after an hour. It usually takes most people a few days to realise it's a piece of trash.

In what way? Did you really buy one..? I got mine last week and love it. I'd have it as my only console if it had proper third party support.

What happened? It's been an hour since you got it lol - is it that bad? I played one at my friends house and it seemed a pretty good party game device.

First impressions:-

1)THe gamepad feels cheap and fragile.

2) The system is as loud as my PS3 slim :- I thought the whole point of a low power console was that it was quiet. THat screech it makes as it checks for a disc on start up is annoying as well.

3) I cant turn off that garbage system menu music. 10 mins in and I already wanted to pull my teeth out. (yes I know I could just turn it off on my tv, but then I have to turn it on for in game audio- irritating )

4) The slowness of the OS is absurd

5) I cannot customise my mii like a 360 avi. The default options are rubbish

6) I just spent an hour and a half trying to connect to the internet. Using every esoteric option on earth. I only just finally get it working and being to update and......

7) The update is laughably slow. Im on a fucking 60mb connection in the flipping morning! But its cool ill just go and do something else except...

8) The Damn connection keeps cutting out! this is the third time ive restarted it.

This system is already leaving a very bad impression on me. Ill sleep on it tonight, but if I feel the same way I do now tomorrow morning, its going back. Ill borrow someone else's when bayonetta 2 comes out.

This thing is an absolute piece of shit. Im ready to send it back.

The exclusive software I'm interested hasn't released yet and it's still too expensive for what is weak hardware with a controller I don't want to pay for.

The waiting game continues, I'm looking at about £90-£100~.

First impressions:-
Did you have a moment when you first pulled the controller out where you thought 'oh, this is what screens used to look like!'. That cheap greyish plastic staring back at you as if smartphones and tablets had never happened.

That was a big downer for me.

I'd recommend playing Zombi-U to make you feel better.

I'll buy yours for £120 to end your suffering

Yeah, like a big ass blackberry screen from 2005.

Don't get me wrong, I was less than impressed when I realised the vita screen was housed in plastic, but at least the underlying screen looked decent.

The Gamepad screen is awful. Low res, cheap materials, plastic housing. This is what is causing Nintendo to sell at a loss? They are being scanked by their suppliers.

If I keep it, ill check out Zombie U but nothing, can convince me now that this isnt a dead console walking. In my eyes, this thing isnt a good value proposition against PS360, much less the next gen consoles. Even the Wii feels more robust and well engineered. (except for that flimsy as fuck sensor bar)

Oh I meant from my pov that I would get on Wii U because I have a high end PC and a 3DS and the only two games worth getting is Pikmin 3 and Mario Kart 8 which is like a year away. To me Mario Kart 8 is a system seller. Mario Kart on Wii was amazing.

I also have a 360/PS3 but I dont use them because I want the layer of dust to grow more. I like to horde dust.

Mario Kart Wii is the only Mario Kart game that I truly despised. :-(

None of this happened on my wii u. Either is because of the first update (and after it will go smoother) or because of your crappy net connection/router settings. I can't imagine how internet and connection to nintendo servers can be slower in London than here in Bucharest (I have a 100Mb/s but still...)
My router is a TP-Link WDR3500 with a standard PPPOE connection if it maters.

Mine either. My initial update happened remarkably quicker than I expected from what I'd read online, and I only have a 3-4MBPS internets.

My net connection is fine

My router is Virgin Media Superhub, which isnt the best but it gets the job done.

Have zero problems with anything else. This console and the services around it are steaming garbage. simples.

This reminds me of the SmokyDave's reaction after getting his. And his rage against ZombiU. At list now he has a love-hate relationship with the WiiU.

First impressions:-

The internet connection issues and the slowness should be fixed after the update. The gamepad is not as fragile as it seems. The download speed really seems to depends on the location rather than connection speed for whatever reason. Except for the times when everybody is downloading an update I get quite good speeds. The rest of your issues are really related to the personal perception and can't be changed or contradicted, but maybe you will enjoy a game or two on the system. And maybe even the screen after a an off-TV session.

The fact is, I bought this system for one game. By the time that game rolls around I my not have the spare cash to pick up the system hense why i bought it now.

But we will see. Its a hassle to return this online and I haven't tried a game yet. I need to think about it.

Oh and for any still interested, Scan are still selling the basic for 167.99 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/nintendo-wii-u-console-basic-pack-white

Try the ZombiU demo and see if it clicks. And there are several other demos. Or you could just pick a cheap indie game from eshop.

And the thing that is noisy is the disc (at list they fixed in the updates the fact that it was always spinning no matter if you played the game or not), if you go with digital purchases the console is very quiet.

Nintendo uses Akamai for content distribution, and for some strange reason, Akamai sometimes seems to choose some really shitty mirrors. I wouldn't try this with firmware updates, but with regular downloads, pausing and resuming the download sometimes fixes the issue. Though it becomes much less of an issue once your system is up to date and background/ standby downloads and automatic updates are enabled.

Do everybody a favor and send it back.

As for the problems listed by the return it after an hour dude, I wouldn't worry. None of it has ever bothered me, except for load times which has been improved greatly if you bother to update os

Obviously he was dead set on hating the thing before he bought it, just so he could make a point, troll it for ever and a day and claim "he knows because he owned one". The only reason he bought it was to play Bayonetta 2... probably still salty over its exclusivity i presume.

I would if the damn thing would let me connect to the eshop. (-_-)

And there is no way id go digital on console without an account system. I wouldnt even on a 360/x1

But yeah thanks for your help.

Your problem with the connection is due to the shitty superhub. You need to assign the WiiU a static IP and it will work much better then. Check some online guides and they will help you.

Get that Basic while you can folks, going to be a collector's item soon! :) And you'll need some cheap external drive if you're going heavy on the digitals anyway.

Your persecution complex is amazing.

You really believe im going to spend £150 of my hard earned money to buy a system just to troll people? Because Im salty over a exclusive game? Get over yourself.

It's not really money spent if you take it back, is it? Your attitude has been rather telling from the start (whatever the reason). Get over yourself indeed.

Dude, the device gives a shit first impression. Simple as.

The only way I could see someone being blown away is if they hadn't owned a 360 or PS3 at all.

Who's talking about being blown away? There is a big difference between trolling the system into the ground after barely having unpacked it, and not being blown away by it.

lol I kind of chuckled when I first got mine for that reason, I have 5 android tablets and 3 smartphones at my place for the family.

My chuckles faded when my first Wii-U was DOA

At $199 that I picked it up for I can't really complain, my son has beaten LegoCity at least 3 times. Something he has never done with any other fame (I've owned Wii/PS3/360/3DS/PSP since he was born)

Just a word of warning. The Wii U is going down the drain quicker than some people think. I do not know if we'll even see X to be released.

How so? The figures I've seen show it has higher sales than PS3 or 360 did after the same period on the market, and they had third party support. I don't think things are as bad as GAF make out.
