Wii U HOMEBREW Discussion Thread [exploits/apps/games/stuff]

This breakthrough is blowing my mind. Can't wait to try out DS tricks. Dusted off my Wii U for the first time in over a year.

heh i had forgotten about smoothing on the DS games. i had it on because the regular VC settings made my head hurt. turning it off with 2x rendering actually makes it look nice.

oh, also i noticed the image previews look screwed up when changing screen layout. probably another reason they didn't do 2x rendering.

That is one hella weird resolution... Still I wonder if this fixes WiiU's scaling quirk on 240p. You know what I'm talking about.

that might not be present since these are native Wii U VC releases and are not passing through vWii, which is where most of the strange effects occur.

i'll admit that i haven't checked out native Wii U VC games too much so i dunno if they have the weird things seen in vWii.

I think I did this step wrong. I did this and now I can't access the store at all. Am I just supposed to block a specific one to prevent firmware updates?

I could see this becoming my main machine for DS games.

I have a lovely collection that I never play because I barely play modern handhelds, let alone older ones. I like to game at home on my comfy couch.

Yay

Custom borders!

You can actually set it up as one per screen setting if you wish - I don't need anything but the big screen setting for Kirby so I've just copied that configuration for each display setting - but each with a different border on the TV and gamepad!

Holy shit how big is XenoBlade Chronicles X total in size? I have the disc based version, downloaded the data packs, and the dump of this is at 23.5 GB and the downloadable version is supposed to be 22.7 GB in size.

OMG can you post a guide how to do this?

I think that I'm doing something wrong with N64 games. I tried No Mercy but it just loads Mario Party 2 (the game that I dumped). GoldenEye, Battle for Naboo and Super Mario 64 don't load. Should I change the ROM name from the one used by Mario Party 2 to something different?

OMG can you post a guide how to do this?

for custom borders, all you do is replace the images in the textures folder inside assets

in the dumped DS game's folders, there's a folder called 0010 inside content, inside that you find assets and inside you find textures.

Actually, that's not the best way. I didn't replace them at all.

You can specify any PNG file in that folder to be used for any screen layout preset in the .json config file. Just copy and paste the parameter and name what PNG you want to use! I just threw in a load of wallpapers!

Any idea why DDD wouldn't connect to the PC dumper?
After I put the ip address, if I press A to dump the disc it goes back to the mii channel. If I try to start the game manually, the game starts normally and nothing happens on the pc.

Edit: It seems to be working from my tablet, it might be something with the firewall or antivirus

So i did it, but then realised the orientation of the file is set up for Brain training, has anyone got the text to shift it to a standard top screen on TV and bottom screen on gamepad?

Update brain age. You still have the old one.

Go to the eshop and redownload it.

Does anyone think we'll be able to enable Pro Controller controls for DS games? That would be really good for certain games. I'd at least like to configure the gamepad controls. Why does Nintendo insist on making L and R the buttons for VC games when your fingers lay naturally on ZL and ZR?

You know what this hack will be great for?

Citra. The 3DS emulator for PC. No matter how well it ends up running, the bottom screen is an issue. And streaming from PC to gamepad directly is out of the question.

My idea: get that streamed from the PC to the Wii U to display on the gamepad. Controls synced too. Full HD top 3DS screen on your monitor/TV and the bottom screen and controls on the gamepad! Yeah!

If I were to buy a new WiiU from the stores

Would they be pre loaded with the latest firmware?

No but you might be shit out of luck if you buy one on an unexploited firmware and Nintendo releases an update past 5.5.1 before you get to update.

Can someone post a tutorial how to rip a disc WiiU game using PC and wiiU ?.

Follow KingWool's guide but in step 5 where it says "Press X" you press A instead. Then it just dumps the disc instead of a title you choose.

will give it a go, thanks.

edit - done it, same result, unsure we're talking about the same game, i'm on about the original Brain Training btw

Are you pressing ZR in the emulator and going to screen settings? There are more in there than the one it launches at.

I got a few questions please:

1. Is there a maximum size (or type) SD Card that can be used?

2. What format does it have to be? (NTFS/FAT32?)

3. Does Loadiine GX2 deal with region protection?

4. Can USB devices such as a Pen drive or external HDD be used?

Thanks!

So I am a bit confused. I have spent the last 10 hours dumping Xenoblade Chronicles X and I think it's done. It stopped transferring files and I am at 29.2 GB transferred. That being said the Wii U never continues to load the game, and never closes the connection to the PC like it did when I was dumping a DS game. Has anyone ran into this? What can I do?

i just did the basic setup and dumped my VC game to tweak settings and...man, those minimal tweaks make a world of difference.

i did notice some stuttering with 2x rendering. maybe they just wanted to avoid optimizing the emulator any further to keep constant fps and that's why they kept the rendering as base. i think they should have put the extra effort because, for the price they're asking, we deserve at least an option to toggle 2x rendering.
That's quite the difference even if I ignore the higher resolution. But if the games stutter at 2x I can sort of understand not upping it just for the sake of providing a solid frame rate. But wouldn't further optimisation of the emulator have fixed that? If so they really should've done that at those prices yeah.

what the F...

i dumped OoT to have the data ready and, in the configuration folder, there's configuration settings for a lot of unreleased VC games. did anyone notice that?

weirdest of all, i spotted a config file for a 64DD game (Sim City 64)

could that mean 64DD games on Wii U VC at some point?

there's even config files for things like Banjo Tooie which is really weird, considering that can't be released on VC. maybe someone is pulling our leg...

I remember before the launch of the Wii that it was said that 64DD games might be possible. But they've never mentioned it again. They might have just done so for compatibility reasons. Same goes for BT. Might be because of DK64 since they're sharing the same engine.

omg. i removed the patches from the patches folder and OoT loaded with the original Mirror shield symbol. that's insane lol!!

a bit hard to see but you can see the original Mirror Shield there.

this is not a rom inject/change because that hasn't been figured out yet.
Interesting that they've patched it rather than just use the ROM they've used for the GameCube. I believe in that one they've actually completely removed the original texture and replaced it rather than patching it. Thought I might be misremembering here. But I wonder, with the patch removed, is the music in the Fire Temple still the altered one? I doubt they've used an earlier ROM, but you never know.

Actually it's not that weird as you think. If you multiply by 5 you end up with 1280*960.

Knowing Nintendo the reason is that they are labeled L and R. That said, what? Fingers lay naturally on both top and bottom shoulder buttons. Just, you know, different fingers.

mine sure as hell don't. I don't have abnormally long index fingers, but maybe you do.

Could also be that they just took a look at all Nintendo-published N64 games. The average NCL employee might not be aware of which studio created what game and could just assume Nintendo holds the rights to all of its published titles.

I don't hold it that way.. My trigger fingers are on ZL and ZR and I use those same fingers for L and R if I have to. But I prefer not to.

I think I'm just too stupid to get it, tried everything as posted here and everywhere. Downloaded from post #128 which is for the newest fw 5.5.1 I think, got everything in the root/wiiu/apps/ and then the three loaders, but nothing.
Tried both cards again...

I had the same problem as you, i made sure everything was set up properly, but no luck. What fixed it for me was cleaning the SD card reader of the Wii U, it was full of dust. Since Day 1 i had the cover open to charge my controllers on the usb ports.

the Zelda rom is the latest N64 release which already removed the song. i tested just in case. only the very first printing of the N64 version had the original Fire Temple song.

that's what killed my desire to buy any further DS VC games. there's no reason to not allow Pro Controller on games that control 100% with buttons. unless a way to use pro controller on DS VC comes around, i'll stick with the 3DS for DS stuff.

One of the nice feature of loadiine is that you can easily turn off the gamepad screen while still be able to use it (touchscreen and buttons): just press the right stick to enable/disable it. And that hack persist even after you exit your loadiine game (til you switch off).

Alright, so no need to check that if it's the last ROM. I wonder why they went with a patch instead of the GC ROM. But Nintendo works in mysterious ways...

If you guys are using the web browser exploit and locally host your files on your network, I have a little tip that might make things easier for you, in case you don't know about it!

If you're like me and you're using this exploit on your PC, you have to manually load the exploit on your PC every time you want to use it on your Wii U (provided you're not using a local server that's up 24/7, that is). Instead of having to go through the command line, you can use a .bat file to run it with a single double-click.

  1. Go to the folder where your exploit files are located.
  2. Right click > New > Text file.
  3. Open that file and paste the usual Java code inside:

    Code:
    java -jar HaxServer.jar
  4. Now save that file with a name you can recognize (i.e. kExploit) and change its extension to .bat. You should get something like "kExploit.bat".
  5. Double click it and... voila, the exploit is running. You can create a shortcut on the desktop for even easier access if you want (though you can't pin it to the Start Menu or Taskbar, unfortunately).

What's the point in creating a *.bat file, if you can just double click on the HaxServer.jar to start it up.

So you're telling me each time I want to switch my custom games I have to switch off the console und repeat the exploit?
kYsuUyd.jpg

Hell yeah! Flower, Sun and Rain at 2x rendering!

Uh no

Exit to Wii U menu

Go back into Mii Maker.

This never works for me. Exiting to the Wii U menu sits on a white screen with Wii U in the bottom right corner. And sits there. And sits there...

Turning off and on is what I have to do.

You can see both the exploit and the command line. Otherwise it just opens the exploit's window. I mean, I specifically said that it can be useful for people using the exploit and the command line...

Early days and all. This opens the scene up in a lot of ways. If the interest is there, it'll only get better.

I'm blown away by this already. Started backing up a bunch of my games, and I've got Sonic Rush on my Wii U. Crazy!

I can't wait for an FTP app and channel creation. And external HDD support for the USB Loader / Ripper!

I was all hyped for the n64 injected games....

...and then the compatibility list killed it all.

I was expecting everything to work flawless once you inject it (i know, im lazy and expexting a magical solution). It seems only a few games even work - and all of them full of issues

The DS screen borders are a bit too tiny and the focus on one screen makes the other a bit too tiny. That's a big bummer for tv less VC.

Wonder if one could remove the DS border and make each screen say DSi size.

having issues, don't know if I'm just thick or something's amiss , using 32gb Sandisk class 10 card, all files added recommend by the op, when I clear Wiiu browser cookies etc and log into http://loadiine.ovh/ that all works fine, it sees my firmware version 5.3.2, I select the homebrew browser it goes to load and sticks on a blue spinning circle, tried other hosted sites and they freeze the wiiu browser and wiiu, even tried self hosting via apache on xampp, connects through my pc Wiibrew menu, but select an option and the wiiu freezes, any help much appreciated
