Wii U HOMEBREW Discussion Thread [exploits/apps/games/stuff]

Been lurking this thread for awhile trying to get Star Fox 64 to work. One thing to note is that the rom version makes a huge difference. If you can't get one rom to work (aka getting a blank screen) try using a different ROM. In my case I had been using a 12,288KB rom that would NOT for the life of me work. I then used a 16,384KB rom that ended up booting just fine.

Is it possible to fix the luminosity on N64 VC games?

i've managed to inject custom F-Zero X roms with the same procedure used to inject the standard F-Zero X.
i also managed to inject a Zelda OoT rom hack but that one had some glitches because the rom hack was heavily edited.

that opens up a lot of possibilities.

F-Zero X custom injects

With the N64 compatibility list - am I pretty much fucked, since I'm in PAL region? Or should they all work injected into e.g. DK64 PAL too?

Tried out HID to Vpad, worked great with my DS4 but unfortunately did not work with my Mayflash Classic Controller to USB converter.

A shame, as I currently lack a WiiMote and was hoping I could use that to play Smash with the best controller around.

I assume a lot of these posts here involve a more recent type of exploit.

Would anyone be willing to tell me what it is, and what exactly it opens up for the system? Is this like a PSP level hack on the Vita, or are we talking this opens the door to the whole system like Wii got with homebrew?

EDIT: Wait..this isn't a thread that's been around for a while. Wow, color me stupid.

1) I found this app called NDS2WIIU (MEGA download link on description) which is an automate injection tool to be used with loadiine. It aparently inject everything to New Super mario bros' emulator by the look of the manual (obs it bugs if you enter the manual) .... so if you need a newer game you might not like this, but for 90% of the cases ... it works wonderfull

2) OP does not say which dns is to be changed ... is

Ok or do I need to copy the first number to the second dns too ?

Like you have it, or both set to the same, it doesn't actually matter. Secondary DNS is only really used when the Primary fails, but in this case there isn't really a secondary one.

It's much better with any other VC machines. N64 emulation is difficult to get right.

I know..
Thats why i was so interested in wiiu homebrew. Im really waiting for a decent n64 emulator that can run on consoles and up res games

Ive even bought an android tv box (and a n64 usb adapter) just to play old games - but not even the android emulators can run n64 star wars games

Always use z64 ones, this should be noted in the OP too :p

I'm new in the Homebrew Channel world. I was trying to do different things with it, but I could only execute it, I couldn't play anything. I have some questions related to what can the Wii U do, and what cannot. Here they go:
  • Do I need a DS game installed in my Wii U to play DS games?
  • Is it possible to play any DS game? Or does it need to be a game that appears in the following list? http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/WiiU_VC_NDS_injection
  • I would like to play SMT Strange Journey, I don't know if the game has been released for Virtual Console in any region. Would I be able to play it? How about using NDS2WIIU?
  • Is it possible to play them using normal ROMs?
  • Same with N64 games. I want to play Conker. Could I play it, even if it's not in the VC catalogue?
  • Is it possible to play non-Nintendo games? Like PS1 or MD/Genesis games?
  • Is there a list of supported apps for this new HBC?
Many thanks for your help, GAF!!

I don't think the extension matters as I was using a z64 file to begin with and I am now using a .309 file extension to match the .ini file that was in the config folder. I think it's more of a matter of good rom dumps vs bad dumps.

Oh boy.
1) Yes. You need to dump the NDS VC game from your console, then follow any of the tutorials that have been posted around.
2) That compatibility list is just what other people have tried. If the game isn't on the list, that doesn't mean it doesn't work, it just hasn't been tested.
3) Yep, you need to dump your NDS rom, then dump your VC game and do it that way.
4) N64 games are a lot less compatible, but if you dump an N64 VC game you own and swap out the VC game's rom with your rom, you may be able to get it to work.
5) Not right now, since there's no non-nintendo VC games on Wii U. You could download any number of emulators for use in Wii mode.
6) The best list seems to be here

Don't know about the max storage size, but go for a faster SD card. They go up to class 10. You'll get really slow--ass loading times with this one.

A Class 10 means 10mb/s.

UHS speed class 3 (currently the fastest, the same as this kingston card) = 30mb/s at least.

Yeah, but it requires decrypting the VC loader. Some guys on GBAtemp are working on it. Wouldnt be surprised to see a tool released soon.

By contrast, the NDS emulator contains all of its settings in an ini file and the ROM in a zip file. lol

For example, Chrono Trigger with 100% brightness and 2x scaling:

Well, god damn. I've been meaning to replay it anyways.

Many thanks for your answers. I'm very inexperienced with all this, this is very new for me. I hope to make everything work this weekend.

I'm wondering if 2x scaling even matters for pixel-based DS games or not. Does it sharpen up the image?

by any chance, was the injection guide for Snes games posted \ is is the same as another one poted? I'm actually interested only in those.

If i use Loadiine to play a game, and quit the game with the home button, the next time i try to load Loadiine (or any homebrew) from the web browser, the console freezes. Any way to fix this?

I've just been restarting the console after every play.

Yes it will make pixels look sharper because it'll double the resolution to DS games.

I'm also interested, and for other consoles like N64 and NES. I still find this somehow confusing. If anyone could get all in one stop guide would be awesome.

I followed the tutorials to a T, and I still can't play Goof Troop or Marvelous on my Wii U. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. :/

Is there a tutorial for DDD better than the one in the GBATemp thread? I'm trying to dump my update data and DLC and I have no clue what the hell I'm doing.

Besides the 2x tweak, have there been any valuable tweaks that work well/don't break the game in the DS ini file?
