Zelda BotW WiiU version to get canceled because of this.

So this enables piracy then? Shame, but at least there's only one game being released. Hope Zelda's sales aren't too affected

Nah, dude. We have been able to run unsigned code since 5.3.2, that meaning retail and eShop games, injections to VC emulators, and general homebrew. Nintendo last updated the firmware of the Wii U on January of this year... they simply don't care anymore. There's no need for doom and gloom here. If anything, this could be the spark that finally ignites the Wii U homebrew scene. Look at what happened with the Vita and HENkaku.

... as I said, nah.

Homebrew has been possible for months now. Provided that Nintendo remains uninterested in overhauling the Wii U's security, what this provides is a permanent homebrew solution.

Using shitty SD Cards. People are waiting for the USB ports to open up as well as actual homebrew besides the few apps released a year ago. Once it's full unlocked hopefully there is the amount of apps the original Wii has and than some.

personally im waiting for the day i can install the 2 physical wii u games i have to my hdd like you could do on wii full hdd access is what people want the most.

No matter, what people will tell you, but enabling homebrew will always enable piracy sooner or later.

I mean, it's not like I appreciate that, quite the opposite. But there will always be some dude who is able to enable piracy by using an already released exploit that enables homebrew.

Happened with the Wii, the 3DS, the Vita. It will happen with the Wii U, too.
Well, the Wii U already got cracked for piracy long ago , sĂł this pretty much just great news for homebrew.

I assume this means the whole door was busted open?

I know games were earlier this year, so I figure the big hook now is DLC and maybe Amiibo triggers have not been circumvented, so you can use homebrew and the like to activate this stuff. If not, is it just the same as before, but on a larger scale?

I'm confused I thought wiiu had homebrew, emulators and even could play pirated games. What exactly can this do that wasn't already possible?

and when are we getting super smash mods?

My understanding was something like this could be made to trick the eShop into thinking you owned licenses/downloads for games that you didn't really purchase and then redownload them because it thinks you already bought them.

... I think that was the theoretical thinking somewhere on the WiiU or 3DS scene I forget which one.

All I know is that the cracked Wii allowed me to play the e3 demo of Skyward Sword months before the games release. Any chance that will happen with Breath of the Wild.

That 'E3' demo was a display demo used at gamestops that someone dumped that just happened to be the same or similar build. I don't know if Nintendo plans on doing the same thing, but I wouldn't count on it.

At the moment, nothing. But having your OTP will enable you to install something like the 3DS's A9HL and a CFW, once someone develops them. Team SALT is doing exactly that, so we can wait and see how it all unfolds.

Also, we already have Smash 4 mods...

Crazy, sounds like this would crack the Wii U wide open.

The Wii U is in a similar state to the Vita: no permanent CFW solution yet. But unlike the Vita, the Wii U had already been cracked wide open. We just need someone (Team SALT) to finalize and release their tools :)

They are guarding all the doors, they are holding all the keys. Which means that sooner or later, someone is going to have to fight them.

It won't load for me. It keeps saying error 112-1209. Anybody have any thoughts as to why?

You have to download the file (iosu.elf) to your PC. Then move it to your SD card, under wii u/apps/iosu.elf. Then run it with the Hombrew Launcher. It may take some times before it properly paints the keys, though. You'll have to force-reset your console, since the ELF crashes it.

Unless you're really interested by this stuff, it won't do you any good, though. It doesn't even dump the OTP to a file (yet).

Got lucky worked first try. Wish it dumped to file but it's a great step forward. Finally Donald Trump is good for something :P

So then should I do this now for cool shit that will come down the line? honestly if it gets the homebrew community going I'm all for it.

Oh my fucking god how did I not know about this!?

Up to you. At this point the only real advice is don't update the firmware. Current one supports Wii U homebrew launcher.

HAHA! I'm an idiot. For some reason I read the OP as needing to download it through the wii u browser.

WiiU has Homebrew, does not have emulatos and can play pirated games.
What you might see as emulators is Virtual Console injects, changing the game inside a virtual console emulator.

What you can't do now that with full nand access you will be able to do : Stuff like Nintendont (play gamecube games) without the need for vWii hacking, loader for both wii and wiiu games at the same time, actual emulators (like Retroarch, to play stuff like CPS2, Mame and even some PS1/Saturn/Dreamcast), using internet on pirated games (so basicaly a game like Mario Maker is useless now), easy region free right of the disc without enterning anything, installing custom channels (including easy offline access to homebrew channel), custom themes for the wiiu menu and other stuff

Well, since Nintendo probably won't release more firmware updates, it's up to the homebrew scene. If anyone bothers coding anything beyond ISO loaders, that is.

I can't deny that ISOs loading encourages pirating of said ISOs, but I personally have been looking forward to ripping some of my Gamecube and Wii games without hurdles or concerns of updates breaking things.

So, as someone who doesn't really understand how all this works, this could in theory make putting Nintendont on a WiiU easier (as well as the GC games themselves)? I've wanted to try it, but I'm worried the console will get bricked or I'll break something. If this simplifies things, that would be grand.

We still don't know how it will work, but chances are it will have the same brick chance of vWii or Wii homebrew.

Which is VERY low, only if you do anything wrong.

I'd assume the current way to install it is the already the safest and easiest way to do it since it's already contained within vWii. I don't think I've read one horror story about it before.
