Wii U releasing "This Holiday"

Was going to buy at launch but will definitely hold off now.

Gonnawait for games and or price drop. Whichever comes first.

I don't know, I think it looks sort of interesting.

I do most of my gaming on PC now, so a Nintendo console would be a good counterpart. They control all the characters that made me happy when I was a kid, and still do.

Hard to say. Will people really be willing to drop 400 bucks for a WiiU and NSMB? A game that, to the average consumer, looks the exact same as the one they already have?

When NSMB came out for Wii and DS they already had a huge userbase.

NSMBU and NSMB2 are games that will sell consoles, not just filler games for existing users.

However I do agree that a $400 console for just one game is too much. But we don't really know the price, and some of the announced "holiday" titles can go well with a $300 WiiU and Mario.

can't wait. Preordering as soon as I can.

The only question is black or white.

I'm going white if only because gloss black and issues with fingerprints don't go well together.

I can't wait to play a new Pikmin game, and Rayman and Lego City are looking pretty sweet.

Even though I didn't either like the games they were showing people really are forgetting that Wii Fit U and NSMBU had predecessors that sold something like 20 million each. Way more than so called GAF ''megatons''.

I doubt many Wii Fit users have been eagerly anticipating the sequel.

Wasn't sure where to ask this as it doesn't need its own thread but will the Wii U come with a bundled Wiimote + nunchuk?

We dont know yet. Reggie has kept dropping the word value when avoiding questions about price though. That said, they have sold so many controllers, i honestly think they dont need to, but it would seem like a smart addition.

I could see them selling the Wii U which is the system + tablet then selling some kind of mini game collection(Game & Wario, maybe) that comes packed with a remote and nunchuck

I think holiday launch is speaking more of Thanksgiving than Christmas. My reasoning is that the list of games had games slated for "launch" and others for "holiday." I think there is a distinction there and we'll probably see it released close to when the Wii was released, early to mid November.

Just Dance 4 was listed as a launch title. Ubi announced it coming on Oct 4.

And to think the original talk of "fiscal year" made it sound more like they were originally toying with a June release. If they pushed that back due to launching the 3DS too early and this line up is all they could muster up with that added time buffer (holiday = Nov 18th?) I really am concerned. I'm gonna buy it and I'm gonna regret doing so, aren't I?

At least with the 3DS reveal, Nintendo was desperate enough at E3 to show games early in development, like Paper Mario, Kid Icarus, and Luigi's Mansion. If the Wii U line-up is what it is, that's bad enough. But if some games get pushed and the AAA games aren't even far enough along to be presentable, oh my. What exactly have they been doing with their time?

Holiday season? What will that be, 3 years with no real home console presence?

However, given the fact that it doesn't look like they have much software anyway (They would have shown it right? RIGHT?!) and what they are showing looks like earlier this gen stuff it's no surprise. Ahh well.

As someone whose been following them anxiously for a year, hoping that they'd actually deliver on their rehtoric (Real core games and how important us enthusiasts are) I really would have expected E3 to be the place to show them.

I'm pretty sure they have plenty of other titles that are presentable, especially in trailer form. For some bizarre reason, Nintendo has decided to pretty much never show games that are more than 12 months away. Specifically for this launch, they are so scared of screwing up somehow and/or overshadowing certain titles/publishers that they clamped down on their own showcases and pressures third parties to not show certain titles. backfired. but they can recover.

They need to get on the internet and whip up a new sizzle reel less about features and more about games -- add in Madden (even if it's xbox '12 clips), NBA Live, Project Cars, along with the UBI and Nintendo stuff. 10 to 20 seconds per game.

Well, that's great that Nintendo land is a pack in. Looks like a fun game, but there's no way that was going to sell well on it's own.

That being said, I'm going to wait until we have more info. We know very little about the online structure, and that is going to be a big deciding factor. And then there's also the matter of games. There's no way Pikmin and NSMB is going to justify the price at launch.

I probably be waiting out the launch, sadly.

Nintendo used to do that and was eternally criticized for it.

Time was Nintendo would announce a game, delay it three times, then when it finally released a year after they said it would gamers and the media would bitch endlessly. Now Nintendo doesn't announce games until they have a hard date for them. Frankly I prefer it this way.

Nintendoland was just confirmed as a launch title, not a pack in.

Have they explicitly said if the Wii U is coming in both black and white versions at launch? I definitely want the black. I also wonder if one color will be considered a more expensive "pro" bundle. I suppose this info might only come later but black at launch is a must.

Obviously Columbus Day. As for your questions, go checkout antonz posts.

There was a video interview today saying that they have not decided on launch colors yet, and that there could be different colors than the ones shown.

Please release Black Wii U at launch :(

There is like 30+ games coming at launch, and the launch looks far superior to Wii's. Unless you are a non gamer, since Nintendoland won't be on good morning america most likely.

I think I'm just forgetting about certain games due this year -- which is easy to do since there was no footage. Madden and NBA 2K can pull in the sports crowd, which is a huge segment. Project Cars if this year can fill the racing void. NSMB looks good as does Pikmin. Zombi U looks like a sleeper hit. Mass Effect 3 and Batman will be good for people who haven't played them. Nintendoland could be important if they bundle it.

Although I certainly didn't expect NSMB to be the 1st party system seller and Pikmin to be the big holiday must have -- there will be stuff to play. I just expected some clips for the future since it's a console LAUNCH -- Donkey Kong, Kirby, F Zero, Mario 3D, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Wave Race, Zelda... all missing except in mini-game form (for some).

Sorry if I missed it in this thread, but could you show me the source on that one, please? I'd be happy to play it... Not so happy to pay extra for it.

It seems nothing is official yet on that. I think going for the pack in is the only way for this to get any buzz. It really seems like a way for Nintendo to ease more casual players into their bigger titles, Metroid, Zelda, F-Zero. It's really the best option in the end.

I agree completely, they dropped the ball on their conference, but they do have some other interesting games, even P100 looks amazing. Antonz says there is a Nintendo conference in the summer that will have more information about future games. I guess they want to give gamers a blow out weeks before launch. Could be very smart if true...

Thanks BG, I missed those posts. So in a way I've hit it right. I expect more than what they showed, AND I think they're stupid :)

I wonder what those reasons were?

Nintendo: "Holy shit that game's awsome. Great use of the GamePad, beautiful visuals. You have Miiverse integrated right?"
Dev: "Err no not yet"
Nintendo: "Ok, you can't show it or tell anyone about it yet"
Dev: <sob>

People are acting like Pikmin, Mario, Nintendoland and 3rd party filler is worse than the Wii launch. Just God help us for the six months following.

Just so you're aware. That's a reply to another poster. There's no confirmation either way of whether NintendoLand is a pack-in or not.

I see... Amending previous post.

I'd really like to know some concrete info on this stuff, then.

About that tip, I hope that's true and we see some real info soon.

It makes total sense. I look at E3 as being TOTALLY focused on launch window because that gives consumers the biggest heads up on titles with immediate appeal to them (and you know whether you like all of those titles or not they'll sell boatloads). Just think how many millions of units Wii Fit U alone will sell!

I think in a few months then having a separate event, a SpaceWorld type event in Japan for example where they can talk about the Japanese launch line up (DQX?) as well as the future of Wii U both in Japan and the west (and pricing and launch dates and such) will be GREAT.

A little heads up at the conference would have been nice. He said they were focusing on asymmetrical play, why not also say they are focusing on launch window games? Rhetorical question.

Have they demoed any Wii games playing on it? Curious if it will come out any cleaner over a HDMI despite not being upscaled and also whether you can play the games on the controller screen alone.

This would be pretty great, along with being able to carry around all my Virtual Console games on the Game Pad.
