Wii: Where are the must have games?

Zelda, Wario Ware and Paper Mario are pretty decent for the first few months.

Not as awesome as Gamecube was at first though. Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin and Smash Bros, now that was a great launch (Pikmin and SSBM are close enough, ****ers).

They need to make another Luigi's Mansion, or Luigi's something. That was such a great little game.

When I first heard about the Wii and it's unique controller I thought it would lead to some cool, new, unique games. But where are those???

Sure Metroid, Mario, whatever will come and Wii will have its share of blockbusters, but I expected something different. Other than maybe Wii Sports, there's nothing out or nothing I really know of that's coming that fits (prove me wrong, please!).

Hopefully this is like with the DS and these games will come in time, but seeing something like Little Big Planet on PS3 and not Wii just made me wonder when Wii would get something different than PS2 ports and mini-game games?

Sometimes I wonder why people buy a certain console. I mean, when the Wii launched we basically knew what titles were going to be released up until the end of 2007. Sure, we didn't know exactly when they would be released, but we knew what they were.

Yet, people who have purchased a Wii make threads and complain, asking where the games are. Maybe you should have thought of that before you bought a Wii, and maybe waited until there were more games that you liked.

Also, if the only games you're looking forward to are Corruption and No More Heroes, why would you buy a Wii at launch in the first place? Everyone who isn't stupid knew the Wii wasn't going to be the home to the home to the majority of those types of games. It's like me buying an Xbox 360 and making a thread asking where all the family oriented games were. It's just strange.

I'm reposting this list because I've edited it, and well--it's relevant. I added a "hit or miss" section of some games that really didn't do well but have a loyal following. Like I said the first time, if NONE of these do it for you...you probably shouldn't (couldn't) justify a Wii purchase.*

Launch
2. Twilight Princess (launch)

Post-Launch
5. Wario Ware (January 07)
7. Super Paper Mario (April 07)

Expected within 8-12 Months
1. Mario Galaxy
2. Smash Bros.
3. Metroid
4. BWii
5. Dragon Quest Swords
6. MySims
7. Dewey's Adventure
8. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

This is what I'm planning on having from the list. I had Sonic too, but as much as I was enjoying it at first, I just hit a brick wall and stopped playing altogether. Burnt out really, really quickly for some reason.

I'm considering the Brain ____ game for Wii as well, because I really want to try one but there's so ****ing many it's hard to chose. I wish I knew what the differences were.

You may want to throw Cooking Mama in there too, the DS version was a very solid game, and lots of folks at GAF seemed to like it. I'm unsure if the Wii game is just the DS version with multiplayer tagged on or what though, so I'm on the fence about buying it. Same deal as Trauma Center; I don't care what ANYONE says, I'm not buying a more expensive remake of a game I bought less than a year ago.

I picked up Zelda, Excite Truck, Monkey Ball and Trauma Center at launch. All of which i recommend.

And realize its been 3 months. Did you expect the system to come out barrel rolling with a AAA every week? I dont think anyone expected Wii to do this well, but now that it has there will be alot of good projects on the way.

Like others have said, if your not happy with your Wii now than maybe you didn't get into the right console. Between whats out now, the VC, and old bargin-bin GC gems the system has plenty of flavor for me.

Great list, PantherLotus.

What's significant about it is that if nothing there really excites you, you have no business creating a thread like this in the first place. I didn't even post the "expected someday" games, like No More Heroes, Kirby, Wii Fitness, Kid Icarus, etc.

Sonic and the Secret Rings, (which did get a higher rating from Famitsu than Motorstorm). SSX Blur as well. Several decent ports in March coming, Tiger Woods, etc.

these are hardly must have games

And right after the holidays there salmost never must have games they were all rushed out the door to get out for the holidays.

Motorstorm was orgasmed over to no end only to find out the real game is rather shallow.

Sonic on the Wii has for the most part had rave reviews. Maybe you like shooters only or whatever but to people who like variety more then the same old theres been plenty of variety on the wii so far all considering its 3 months old

Since when did everything have to be a must have game?

If I only bought must have games, I'd only buy like 4-5 titles a year.

I don't think he's really saying they are. Heaps of games at the moment are getting mixed reviews (including Motorstorm and Crackdown) yet people are really enjoying them. I suppose it depends on your tastes (I think Crackdown is great and I being an SSX junkie I am really looking forward to Blur).

The good quantity of good exclusiviness and multiplatform games at the launch were the reason why Wii is doing well worldwide. Just hope the next games doesn't disappoints to keep it up.

lol by this standard the ps3 doesn't have any games and the Xbox 360 has only GOW.

Don't go there. Let the list stand on its own without comparison. If the bots want to troll each other, let them--while the thread may or may not have been started with good intentions, it is a perfect opportunity to remind everybody what great games we've already seen, and what we can expect in the future.

*One might also note that the list doesn't even include very solid 3rd party multi-platform efforts (like Madden and NFS Carbon).

Bolded the must haves for me, and put the "will get eventually when prices drop" ones in italics.

dude, there wont ever be a AO game out by a big publisher.

Walmart wont carry it. No walmart = no development.

And NMH wont see NA till Christmas or next year
Dude, Walmart has a history of not carrying a LOT of quality 3rd-party content regardless of rating. Visit a DS shelf in Walmart... it's Nintendo-published titles, bargain-basement dreck, and Disney games. That's So Raven FTW and FFIII FTL, according to Walmart. So really, their relevance in terms of sales demographics of decent titles has been entirely irrelevant over the years anyways. They need to stop hiring monkeys to operate and train the electronics departments.

(yeah, you read that right, my local Walmarts DIDN'T CARRY FFIII)

Manhunt 2, which is a dark horse title.

WTF do people expect in the first year of a console's launch? Also, the Wii is taking off much to the surprise of gamers and developers, so give them time to catch up. The DS didn't start off the gate with AAA titles, but look where it's at now, with a blossoming library that might come to overshadow that of the SNES when all is said and done.

If you think of anything I missed under any section, say so. It'll give me an excuse to repost this list, AGAIN!

Mario Strikers Charged?

And just as an aside, though it may be because I'm not a graphics whore, I found COD3 to be a great game on Wii. I know it was torn to shreads by quite a few of the gaming sites, but I found the controls to be solid. Just my opinion, of course, but I still think it deserves a nod.

I'm sure many would disagree, though. ;)

Is Mario Party 8 coming out in May? I thought it was said to be out in June at the earliest.

Rayman Raving Rabbids? It's on other systems and I don't know what GAF at large thought about it, but for mine it's every bit as good as Warioware. "Must have" might be a bit much for both games, but I agree with the rest.

Um GameStop won't carry AO games either and probably a whole bunch of other major retailers. John Harker is right. If this game gets an AO, they'll tone it accordingly to get the M.

Rayman on the other systems isnt the same as Raving rabbids wii. they simply used the same name and the bunnies in a different type of game.

That's what I figured, I haven't tried any of the other versions yet. That makes it all the more list worthy!

oh your right didnt see he missed that. That game was one of the most popular i had over the holidays with the family aside from wii sports. The bunnies made the adults like little kids again.

I'll throw on SMS, but leave off COD3 because in my opinion, "Solid 3rd Party Port" = as good as the ones that appeared on other systems (graphics not withstanding), and I'm just not certain that COD3 would hold up under that test.

But I will certainly add Rayman to the hit or miss section, too.

*I edited them in: should I keep reposting it or what?

Re: Tiger Woods. Just saw a commercial starring Tiger Woods himself swinging the Wiimote in a living room..this could be big, I think.

What, what, what?! Really?

Super Paper Mario - Day one, full price.
Big Brain Academy - Day one if it's $30 or less.
Pokemon Battle Revolution - Waiting for comments on character creation.
Mario Galaxy - Day one, full price.
Smash Bros. - Day one, I'd pay $200 if they charged that much, and then just skip $150 worth of other lesser games.
Metroid - After a price drop.
Dragon Quest Swords - Waiting for comments on the depth.
MySims - Waiting for details on price and/or character creation depth, but man, it's so cute. ;_;
Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn - Day one, full price.
Forever Blue - Waiting for information. If it's free-roam, forget it, but it is beautiful.
Wii Fitness - Waiting for information.
Wii Music -Waiting for information.
You know, I thought the Wii lineup was a bit weak, but when you start listing out things like this, it actually looks really nice.
That said, I don't know why you didn't list Kirby under the Expecting Someday category, considering you have Kid Icarus there.
