Wikia surpasses IGN as the biggest gaming website

I recall using them to look up stuff in The Witcher and the Fallout games. I tried one of them at work just now and:

FFFFUUUUUUUUU

NeoGAF is pretty much the only website that passes under the corporate radar here. :/

I was oblivious to the fact that wikia is for profit. Interesting news, there are definitely some great gaming wikia sites.

I've used it for few RPGs: Skyrim, Fallout, Dark Souls, and others. But I didn't know that these Wiki's fall under the same site "Wikia", I just thought they were different sites made by different communities.

Wikia has been great for Monster Hunter and Demon's/Dark Souls. Great resource for gamers.

Congrats to them.

A lot of people who haven't heard of it probably just don't realize it was that site they were going to, because it's usually the first or second link on google and it isn't always named wikia, but instead "Bioshock Wiki" or Final Fantasy Wiki" and instead just says wikia at the very top.

I visit it for amongst other Lostpedia and the Pokémon anime wikia, so I'm probably counted as visiting it but that doesn't mean I use it as a gaming site. For me: IGN & co = news, Wikia = plot information.

No surprise if you don't hunt for cheevos or try to 100% every damn jRPG. Wikia is useless for reviews or questions "should I buy this game or not"?

You mean those reviews that are bought and paid for with free swag and trips to strip clubs? Yeah, bro, those "reviews" sure are informative!

Never heard of it.

I mean, I've looked at a few of the walk-throughs and info on some games on a wikia (Dark Souls, Divinity II, War in the North, etc.), but I never knew it was a "THING". I didn't really know, or care, that was WIKIA.

Wikia is awesome.
The Combine Overwiki (sadly just "Half-Life Wiki" nowadays) is SO in-depth it's not even funny.
I also use the Binding of Isaac Wiki regularly, because I can't for the life of me remember the effects of most items.

Also it's just satisfying to know where to get in-depth info if you want it or just get some help in general. Most wikis on Wikia are maintained very well. It's beautiful.

Isn't Wikia the one that a Warcraft and Guild Wars wiki fled from due to forced format changes?

Can't remember if that's the case or not, I do recall two major wikis bailing out wholesale though

For a moment I was gonna respond with "who?", but I realize I go to a lot of Wikia sites and don't even really think about it. I particularly like the Final Fantasy Wikia. I could spend days just tracing name origins and finding little details about stuff.

I think I actually use wikia more for anime and manga than for gaming (fairy tail, one piece, naruto, bleach, always on my most visited pages)

(bulbapedia is one right). Only other time I use it for games is if they have a walkthrough, or Im looking for some minor character detail/quote.

I didn't realise wikia was owned by Jimmy Wales. The majority of wikias are terrible, but the few good ones make the whole thing worthwhile.

And to people saying they've never heard of wikia: Yes you have, you just don't realise it.

What? Really? People don't know about game specific Wikia sites? That's the bigger news in this thread, is that people are in the dark on something so incredibly useful.

Goldbox Wikia has been my to-go Wiki for the past few days when playing Pool of Radiance. That's what makes Wikia so special, there's one for pretty much any game even if you think nobody is out there to create one.

Wikia would still be the biggest site even if IGN didn't have a bunch of bloated shortcomings.

It is so much better for finding help in games than GameFAQs. The Fallout pages are great easy fast access to anything in the games.
