yeah wikileaks likes to label stuff with such hype. i know some of it is really terrible things, but fortunately for the governments these leaks affect, their respective populace isn't really surprised that fucked up shit happens in a warring or militarized zone.

Damn. 7x more than the Iraq file dump? So much will get lost in the flood of info.

And threatens relationships with allies?

Juicy indeed.

I wonder what we did.

Good stuff, can't wait!

And to people un-hyping it, I mean, the released so far are complete and classified documents detailing torture and civilian casualties. Practically real time information considering how close it is to the present and the situations they're describing. I mean, I understand "everyone knows about this shit, duh" but the black-and-white documents of it, disseminated to the entire world?

It's big to me anyways.

$5 it'll give a lot of specific detail on things and people will shrug it off because "duh, everyone knows that" even though that "knowledge" was formed from little more than a mix of conjecture, sloppy reporting, and government PR.

The Pentagon is warning members of Congress that U.S. relations with its allies could be damaged if the whistle-blower group, WikiLeaks, carries out its plan to publish more classified records on the internet.

So...if leaking classified stuff will harm your relationship with allies, maybe you shouldn't have done that stuff?

or maybe because every time they release something they hype the fuck out of it and nothing history changing comes out of it

good for getting attention, but not keeping it you know?

You're posting in the thread so they've at least reached somebody.
They've got the attention of the Federal Government.
And if something is released that gives further information, corrects prior statements, or brings new facts in general to what took place...that's history making. No need to treat the phrase as hyperbolic and then get upset when you realize history is made up of a lot of "boring" shit too.

does it really matter ? we get to know news nobody else is willing to report. my advice is just ignore the "hype" and read the documents that they publish.

I have asked this before, but I have not gotten an answer.

How does wiki leaks and the person who wants to see this information verify its authenticity. The last time I looked for information, it was just assorted text/html.

Does anyone have signatures/checksums/keyrings for the original documents? What format are the original documents in?

When the fuck will they return to their previous site layout that focused on a multitude of leaks rather than just a couple big ones? Fuck this shit. Hopefully, as the organization splinters others will form in its place to form a more comprehensive network of whistleblowers.

You can fuck right off with your condescending bullshit dude, when Wikileaks hype shit up as "history changing" you know they mean the kind of stuff that will set off all the major media channels as well as blogs for weeks and weeks. This is what they advertise they'll do, and you know it. Yes, I realize new information is "history changing" but you know what they mean when they heavily sensationalize things.

This shit is the essence of hyperbolic, so knock off the patronizing attitude.

I wish they had something on JFK or UFOs or anything else mind blowing.. :lol

I would settle for some good old international scale bank fraud though.

Yes, because corporate media are obviously the standard for what's important and what's not. So for example war crimes are not that important but the latest celebrity scandal is history changing. And it's not like the corporate media would ever purposely ignore important stories that would undermine the system because they're part of it...

UFO stuff would actually be history altering.

Which again is why it's confusing that you have a hard time acknowledging that the information that gets leaked is indeed history making. I think you're more upset that this is a Wii thread and it's not about UFOs or the end of the world.

it's confusing how you cannot acknowledge the very obvious fact that wikileaks uses an extensive amount of hyperbole in order to get attention

I just recognized that yes, it is history making, but not on the very obvious scale they try to sell it as just so fox news can cover it for a 5 minute segment

wikileaks isn't fucking stupid, the organization and Assange very obviously try to be very high-profile in order to be heard, and they do this by claiming every big release is going to change the way we look at the world

it hasn't yet

you got me there, those threads are far more entertaining

Which is as much an indictment on society and governments as it is on Wikileaks, no? The passive dismissal of leaks which contain information that should upset everyone, but instead they're treated as "shit happens in war" and written off. If there was no war, it'd be passed off as "government's doing secret shit? News at 11. zzz". More hate gets directed at the possible collateral damage that could stem from the information leaking than the governments and agencies responsible for carrying out the reprehensible acts in the first place.

George Bush and Barack Obama are both androids built by Microsoft and Apple, with software by Google, and funded by BP and Halliburton.

also, Vladmir putin is a vampire.

You can do legal things that embarrass you.

I think they're finding out that getting this information, as difficult as it is, will prove far easier than the ever-more-daunting task of getting people to give a fuck.

Could this be the bombshell?

A new round of confidential documents about to be released by the whistle-blowing WikiLeaks organization had officials and analysts around the world on edge Friday as reports spread about the trove’s contents. The documents are said to include proof of a reciprocal double-cross by both the United States and Turkey in aiding terrorist organizations.

I don't know about British news media, but Daily Mail is essentially a rag I assume?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...lies-U-S-warns-Britain.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

U.S. warns Britain over new WikiLeaks revelations that will 'expose corruption between allies'

# 3 million documents set to go online
# Bombshell leak thought to include U.S. assessments of Gordon Brown
# Secret talks on return of Lockerbie bomber to Libya may also be leaked
# Allegations 'include U.S. backing of Kurdish terrorists'
# U.S. diplomats face being kicked out of countries in backlash
# Corrupt politicians expected to be named and shamed
Some huge shit if true.

I don't know about British news media, but Daily Mail is essentially a rag I assume?

To put it mildly, yes. It's vile stuff.

Ignoring that though, if that Lockerbie bomber line is true then I can imagine quite a shitstorm here.
