wild Arms 2 or Final Fantasy VIII

Okay so its simple, which game should I play first? Just bought them both for Vita. I've played the first several hours of FFVIII before when I was much younger but never finished it. Never played Wild Arms 2 at all.

Where to start gaf?

I would say FF VIII. I do however think that the combo of Triple Triade and the flexiblity of the Junction system are among the best in JRPGS, and I hate Western shit.

So I'm completely biased on this one.

I'm with TruePrime - FF8's a solid game, but my perspective on this is that I tend to not like Western RPGs very much. WA2 is also a very good game, but FF8's a classic IMO.

Do you like comedy? FFVIII is a great comedy.

Also, Triple Triad. One of the greatest games ever. And it's inside another game. Can you believe that? A game inside a game? A GAME INSIDE A GAME?!

THEY PUT A GAME INSIDE YOUR GAME, SO YOU CAN GAME WHILE YOU GAME!

I don't know because I've only played VIII (and loved it, despite and in spite of its flaws). Give it a shot. It has one of the greatest FF soundtracks ever (up there with 4, 6, and 7's), the story kinda goes everywhere and the leading female is fucking annoying, but it's worth it. The Junction/leveling system might be annyoing at first, but remember: the enemies level up alongside you, so it's kinda moot.

Honestly you've surprised me Gaf, I'm used to hearing how FFVIII is among the worst FF games on here. The answer here seem pretty one sided though.

I haven't played Wild Arms 2 yet, but considering how bad I thought FF8 was, I'd go with that one :P

FF8 is very hate-it-or-love-it, and since you've already abandoned it once chances are you're going to come out on the bad side of that dichotomy. So, Wild Arms 2.

I have a question for anyone here. My wife loves the first Wild Arms. She even cried at the end. She had me buy the PSN re-release and she re-played the hell out of it on the PSP, but she hasn't played any of the sequels because she is afraid that they won't capture the same feel of the first one and will tint the series for her.

Would anyone recommend one of the sequels to her? Which one?

Well, the tone of Wild Arms 1 is REALLY tough to beat. Rudy's tale especially was amazing.

Personally, I'd say Wild Arms 5 comes closest, but the later games tend to lose focus. They're still great games.

Final Fantasy VIII is a childhood favorite of mine, so that.

Just go in with an open mind, and don't take the story too seriously.

WA2, skip VIII.

II and III are both good. But i feel a woman may prefer III.

Avoid IV.

I'd play ff8 first. WA2, while decent, has an abysmal localisation, littered with smiley emoticons and whatnot as I recall. Does the order really matter if you're going to play both anyway?

I've never played Wild Arms 2, but I have played Final Fantasy VIII, so let me say this: if it's down to those two, absolutely go with Wild Arms 2. There's no chance it's as bad as Final Fantasy VIII.

Wild ARMs 3 is my favorite. It has a great cast of main characters and a fun story. It is also the one with the strongest plot ties to Wild ARMs 1, so I think it is a good choice for a die-hard Wild ARMs 1 fan.

I like the entire series, myself. I would recommend that anyone who loves the series try all of them, if possible. For that matter, I need to sit down and finally finish Wild ARMs XF. It is a great game both as quality entry in the franchise and as an innovative tactical RPG.

Try as hard as you can to avoid FF8. I've never played WA2, thought WA1 was a waste of time; but still, if it's between these two, WA2.

Yeah. No. If you like RPGs, try out FFVIII. I'd consider the game pretty slowly paced, so keep that in mind. Wild Arms 2 is pretty traditional as far as RPGs go and it's really easy, but the game definitely moves faster than FFVIII.

I'd say play FFVIII.

You have to remember for as much as FF VIII is hated (and boy is it) it is loved by loads of people as well. FF VIII remains a very popular game, it just has alot of more haters to go along with the lovers unlike VI, VII, Tactics, and IX.

FF VIII is my favorite game of all time and highly recommend it. It has one of the most fascinating gameplay systems of the entire franchise. The freedom of playstyles it gives you is also easily exploitable if you know what to do tho. Wild arms 2 is a poorly translated mess of an rpg that doesn't hold a candle to wild arms 1.

And the card game is pure crack. It's an absolute joy to play. Probably the best mini game ever IMO.

Few games match the same sense of grandiose adventure as VIII, so go for that one I say. But then, all those PS1-era FFs had a magical quality about them anyway.

I think FF8 is a wonderful game despite (or maybe because of) it's myriad bizarre issues, but I still think Wild Arms 2 is a better straight ahead JRPG.

I haven't played Wild Arms 2 so I've no opinion there. As for FFVIII, trash it and get something else.

While the Junction system was a good idea, you can easily break the system which imho makes it boring. Combat requires almost no strategy at all and the story is all shades of bleh.

Triple Triad was fun though.

Triple Triad. Er, I mean FF VIII.

Haha! Perfect!
