Just like the Gamevideos "beta" flash player. :lol

Famitsu really is a horrible mag for review scores. Fellating the larger RPG releases and lowballing the more obscure ones.

Anyways, the amount of classes in this game is so awesome. I cannot wait for this and WA5...I'll be in Wild Arms heaven.

I'm bumping the thread... This is out, right? Did no one buy it? No thoughts? No one's heard anything from a friend of a friend?

I know demi's playing it and hes says theres lots of classes...OMG... he seems to be diggin it and theres a scene where a dog sniffs a girls crotch and she goes EIYEEEEE (he says), then the scene ends

I don't know what was up with most of you all. Even before seeing it in motion, this is a pretty-looking game. Clean and colorful and that's about all I ask for.

Anyway, anticipating impressions on this one...

Gah, I want to change my username. I chose it with only the original in mind, but now it looks like I'm a fan of the whole series.

The original is my best game ever, but I have no interest in the rest.

I wish that can fit in a username :-(

XSeed's announcement and screens: http://rpgland.com/content/?p=2593
(lolawkward interview from August)
Are you ready to carry around the fate of a dying planet in your hands? It is with great pleasure to announce that XSEED Games today announced that it has acquired North American publishing rights for WILD ARMS® XF, a deep and challenging turn-based strategy RPG for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, scheduled for release in Spring 2008.

THE NEWEST INSTALLMENT IN THE WILD ARMS SERIES

An original title created specifically for the PSP system and developed by Media.Vision, Wild ARMs XF (pronounced "Crossfire") is the newest installment in the long-running role-playing series which marks a couple firsts for the franchise; the first one containing tactical strategy gameplay, as well as the first Wild ARMs game to appear on a handheld system.

Wild ARMs XF offers a unique strategy role-playing experience with a hex-based grid system producing more tactical positioning options, a large number of job classes allowing vast party customization, and a wide range of mission objectives making it one of the deepest strategy games on the PSP® system.

Wild ARMs XF features an all-new cast in an epic story of death, betrayal and redemption played out against the backdrop of the dying world of Filgaia.

STORY

The once vibrant world of Filgaia is slowly dying, a result of some cataclysmic event lost in the dim, misty reaches of the past. The few pathetic remnants of once mighty nations are caught up in an endless cycle of war, fighting over Filgaia's ever-dwindling natural resources. Amidst the carnage and slow decay, there is one kingdom that has until recently managed to avoid the chaos and suffering plaguing its neighbors; the kingdom of Elesius.

However, the kingdom is slowly descending into anarchy with the king inflicted with a mysterious illness that has kept him bed-ridden, intensifying the future uncertainty as the heir-apparent disappeared a year earlier and is presumed dead. An opportunistic senate has formed its own police force and is gradually usurping power from the royal family.

It is against this backdrop of political intrigue and social decay that the main character Clarissa Arwin, accompanied by her half-brother and protector, Felius, enter Elesius hot on the trail of Rupert Dandridge, the man who murdered her mother. What started out as a personal vendetta soon turns into an epic battle to not only keep a kingdom from falling, but to save the world of Filgaia from being turned into an uninhabitable wasteland.

KEY FEATURES

* Innovative hex-based battle grid system allows more tactical positioning options, such as Formation Arts and Combination Arts, as opposed to the traditional square-based battle grid.
* One of the deepest strategy games on the PSP system with over 60 stages containing a wide array of mission objectives, as well as numerous optional battles.
* Almost endless party customization with over 20 unique job classes to choose from such as Berserker, Elementalist, Grappler, Geomancer and Sacred Slayer.
* Extensive material creation options to create more powerful weapons, spell books and armor by combining rare materials obtained by sending out hired mercenaries to scavenge throughout the world of Filgaia.
* US-exclusive inclusion of a Music Library containing 20 select tracks from the game accessible any time from the game menu.

WILD ARMS XF is scheduled for release in Spring 2008. The ESRB rating and suggested retail price will be announced at a later date.

The game might not be a looker in screenshots but I think in action it looks pretty nice (sure it's not Jeanne D'Arc but we can't exspect to always get that).

Now if only konami would digg into their PSP past and localise Twelves.

Huh, I had knocked this game off my list of stuff to watch a while back because I figured it would never get localized, but this is an excellent turn of affairs. Will buy indeed unless impressions come in negative.

Really? Why would you think that? Xseed localized Wild ARMs 4 and Wild ARMs 5, they've expressed interest in XF, and they've been all over the PSP (Chronicles of Dungeon Maker, Brave Story, etc. and so on). It seemed pretty much a lock.

Being a strategy RPG instead of something more mainstream, basically. Somehow I missed that they handled Dungeon Maker, though--that would have changed my mind in a hurry.

Labyrinthia? What the hell? That's one helluva a name jump.

I might have a thread with my thoughts on the game up tonight because I'd probably be too lazy to do it after I finished the game.

How did J-GAF like this? It's one of the reasons I'm currently considering picking up a PSP (homebrew, Wipeout Pulse, God of War, and Patapon being the others) and I'd like to know if it's a valid one.

I like the cover. :D

I was waiting for this since the fifth one came out, I thought for a while it wasn't coming out here because it came out like what... last summer?

Despite the fact that I find myself consistently let down by this series, I am for some reason eagerly looking forward to XF.

In the exact same boat. I keep thinking about pre-ordering ever time I walk pass Wild Arms 5.

I never particular dug anything about Wild Arms... gameplay, setting, motif, etc.

Well, except for the amazing music. Also, I was pretty let down by the last SRPG that charmed J-GAF: Jeanne D'Arc.

But I'll stand by for the full writeup.

Really excited for this one. After Jeanne D'Arc (which was great, incidentally) I'm really in the mood for a strategy RPG that has a class system this time.

Edit: Irony.
Edit 2: Also for a strategy RPG with character battle models that I don't hate.

But Shouta says it's the best s-rpg is years...

Considering Shouta's dislike of Final Fantasy XII and Persona 3 and his high praise of Tales of Legendia, Growlanser V, Suikoden Tactics, Suikoden IV, and Wild ARMs III, I'm not sure if our personal tastes mesh up enough for such a lofty claim to be beneficial for me.

Whut? I'm a huge Persona 3 fan. You're sniffing glue!

And my love of Berwick Saga makes me better than j0000. However, that's an unfair comparison because I'm the only one around here that's played it of the people that can. :lol

Suikoden IV? Wild ARMS III?

Wow, you just killed most of my anticipation right there.

But I'll still hold out for his description and at least hope that it's a pretty good WA game (Notice how I don't even say a good s-rpg).

Right, sorry. It was Nocturne you didn't like. Not helping your case! :lol

No, I liked Nocturne too but it's not a favorite of mine. I wasn't terribly keen on Avatar Tuner/DDS, which is probably what you were thinking of, although I liked it.
