WildStar: Reloaded |OT| Full Steam Ahead!

Those games relaunched in the summer didnt they? Wildstar is relaunching in the fall when all the big games are coming out, poor decision in my opinion. Game will be a wasteland when Fallout hits in 1 month, or Halo 5 / new Cod or whatever else is coming out. I could be wrong of course

Im not wrong
Yeah, things don't look good, but that's on Carbine.

I'm enjoying myself for the moment at least.

It seems like making an MMO these days is really tough.

You need a huge amount of content since PvE content only lasts for a few hits

On another note. I finally got around to trying healing. Made a spellslinger and just hit 20. I hate healing in every game except DCUO, but somehow I'm enjoying myself. It feels pretty similar, though more complex.

I think the action combat coupled with pew pew helps me get over the fact that I'm just healing people.

The problem is PVE themepark questing isn't content for everyone that plays MMO's. Some people hit the max level for quest chains, say it's 10, and start skipping the quest chains that's below that level. They move on to the content that will reward the most experience and help them level up the fastest.

WoW has an insane amount of PVE content and almost no one plays it past 15. Almost everyone has heirlooms, hit the dungeon queue at 15 and vanish in a race to hit max level. After the first two starting areas, the number of people actively playing in quest zones drops significantly.

This is an issue if the leveling process is mundane and boring, which is the case in most MMOs.

It's the curse of the GAF guild.

Every MMO ever, the GAF guild dies almost instantly. I think the reason is that we're gamers of everything, so we don't tend to dedicate our time to a single game. I bet most of those guildies are playing Battlefront or something.

Well not every MMO. FFXI and XIV were/are still going strong imo. I think its just all the lag/other issues/so on that go people to move onto other things. That or people don't know what stuff to group up for?

I gave it the good old college try.

Got to level 12 or so today. There are things about this game that feel off. The lag, the lack of interesting group content, the combat system just feels slow and weightless, and something about questing/story/character development is really uninteresting.

The music was alright and I really dig the art style. But unfortunately those aren't the most important aspects of an MMO for me. At least it was F2P so I'm not out anything.

The bit about the combat system I can understand. However the bit about group content doesn't make sense to me as you got to level 12. Starting from 10 there is group content at every 5 levels ping-ponging between dungeons and adventures.

That being said, you might not like adventures as much as dungeons (or vice versa) so it can seem pretty barren between each instance, but there's definitely interesting group content during the leveling experience.

It's actually about the same as FFXIV's leveling group content, but much more varied.

The lag is a bummer though. Maybe if GAF had decided to roll on Warhound and not Entity. :P

I enjoyed FFXIV leveling though. Maybe it was all the fanfare. But in this game it feels like a chore to level. the dungeons also felt more important to the story in FFXIV.

When the dungeon came along in this game it was literally a ship with a funny looking icon. Didn't really tie into things and I left feeling like I wasted half an hour that could have been spent chasing the arrow outside of the dungeon.

Haha no.
My leveling times in FFXIV were just FATE hunting. If you only follow main quests and do every single side quests, you'll get underleveled to do your next main quest. You have to do FATE hunting or levequests which barely give you exp. I don't know if they've fixed the leveling curve nowadays but I totally hated it. Wildstar is way lot better. You can choose which quests you want to tackle as you will be overleveled any time if you do every single quests out there.

I just did quests and dungeons when I leveled in FFXIV. I played it last year.

Does this game have a story worth following? I've been reading the small blurbs for the quests but if it's anything like WoW, I wouldn't feel bad skipping it all.

Wow someone actually enjoyed leveling in FFXIV? You're better person than me.

Agreed, it was far to linear for me. Hey, you wanna do something that's not how the game wants you to progress? Well fuck you, you do what we tell you! I also found the combat quite boring as well. It's not a bad game though, but I just don't get all the hype. I did like the card game within the game, and chocobo races! Hopefully Wildstar adds stuff like that in the future.

I hope Wildstar is revived. The dungeons are fun stuff, the combat is actually fun, etc. Yeah, there's still bugs, but hopefully Carbine will hire some people to get to fixing those. Only thing I think will hurt it in comparison to FFXIV and ESO is that it's not on consoles. I honestly don't know if it would be playable on consoles tbh.

there's a world story that starts at like lvl 20ish

The is my biggest gripe with FFXIV. The entire game is designed around this. It's not entirely a bad thing as it probably makes the game much easier to develop for, but I tire of it pretty quickly.

For me it's the lack of gameplay customization or variety. It started with the death of horizontal gear progression and now class customization is dying off in a few games too (FFXIV, SWTOR, WoW). At least in SWTOR and WoW there are still multiple ways to play each class, even if they've simplified talents/abilities.

FFXIV just takes it to another level of simplicity.

I've got a couple level 50 and a level 60 in FFXIV and when it came to tanking and doing the dungeons in FF... I don't know what it was but I always found myself getting very sleepy and actually dozing off while doing dungeons....

So everybody is leaving the game just after 2 weeks?

Just like every mmo that goes f2p. I still want to get to 50 and see all the zones but, thats probably about it.

Its funny to me how mmos have this stigma that you "cant" stop playing. Like any other game, you played it for as long as it takes you to get to max level on most mmos (lets say 30+ hours the first time through) nobody would bat an eye if you moved on to something else. But with mmos all of a sudden youre an asshole :p

Thats why i never join guilds tbh

Its because in most MMOs, leveling is just an ends to a means - because its widely accepted that the leveling experience is just terrible in all of them.

The meat of most MMOs are in the endgame, thats where the 'real game begins' so to speak, hence the stigma - its like reviewing a game 2 hours into it

but thats an idea isnt it - why isn't there an mmo that cuts out the crap? the industry has proven that leveling has either been relegated to an extended tutorial or for die hard lore fans

Yeah, me too. I usually only do leveling content and be done with most mmo. Not all though, I stayed for 6 months in FFXIV and TERA, and a year in GW2 recently. The 'real' community will be formed naturally months after release/f2p transition, not on its first weeks. Lots of mmo jumpers will be leaving in mmos, it's just the way it is.

XIV (like XI) i'm invested in because of the story and community (well GAF FC, even though I've taken an extended break for other games and things, but that's not the point). Wildstar, the gameplay and dungeons / boss encounters seem like the main draw.

I just blame the lag and log in issues for chasing people off for the time being. The server problems (although they will be merged) kinda split us new comers from the go.

"but thats an idea isnt it - why isn't there an mmo that cuts out the crap? the industry has proven that leveling has either been relegated to an extended tutorial or for die hard lore fans"

Eve Online, technically. Most (true) sandbox MMOs are similar. Ones that are about player interaction instead of set pieces and dungeons.

I'm more of an end game person, I'm open to good leveling but until something is done with the travel time, the chores, the low difficulty and the insignificant way grouping is treated it's just meaningless filler to me.

I'd rather have something more akin to Diablo or PSO where I have a fun, customizable campaign with no chaff and no endless sea of quest markers or empty terrain to chew. Wildstar is a little better than most, paths are pretty fun, challenges have their place but the core questing is the same ol' shit we've seen endlessly since 2004. Devs just keep trying to dump glitter on the WoW model without looking at the issues over the years.

Yeah... I figured when we saw that big sandbox boom on PC several years back that we'd also start seeing a shift towards a modernization of the older days of MMOs. At least something like Ultima Online or SWG popping up but it's sort of amazing how hard pubs attempt to maintain status quo in this genre.

XIV, at least for old Final Fantasy fans, has it's merits. Campaigns are interesting enough and and it has some good side elements. Issue is they can't keep up with any level of content and more importantly the core combat and anything associated with it is just awful. I was hoping in Heavensward they'd maintain their pros and work at fixing the issues with combat and end game content but surprisingly nothing really changed except for the worse. Also, what they did to crafting was just criminal.

Still, I enjoyed Heavensward for what it was. I really liked chewing the campaign down and was comfortable hitting unsub not too long after it was over but even moreso than ARR I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but FF geeks... although with how core music used to be to FF I still think Soken is pretty lousy outside of a few songs.

I'm just worried that the population is going to die out in like the next three weeks. I really enjoy this game a lot, but I'm a community oriented person. If there is no community, then it's hard for me to stay.

I'm paranoid about these kinds of things.

So uh...sorry to pop in with this question in the middle of this discussion, but I've gotten to level 20 and I'm really liking the game. Is there a GAF Guild on Entity 2?

Pretty much. One thing I can recommend is not joining GAF guilds, rarely do they last.

I just logged in for a bit of crafting before work and I checked the guild roster and saw at least 20 gaffers who have been online in the last 6 hours. Seems like the guild is plenty active.

I also wouldn't worry about the death of the community before it actually happens. When it happens you can move on to another guild or game, but in the meantime if you're enjoying the game then just enjoy it while you have it.

I meant the game in general. I'm already in a pretty decent guild so I'm set for that. I just like seeing a world with people running around and what not.

Considering the servers are still having issues it seems the population is still good. They also have the hail mary of releasing on Steam if they need to.

Is there a way (or an add-on) to move my ability bar closer to the center of the screen? I was playing my first dungeon yesterday (Protostar Academy) and found myself either looking at the enemies I was fighting, or looking at my ability bar to see my cooldowns. It would be great if I could be able to look at both at the same time, especially as a tank.

I'm using Lui Auras (basically weak auras if youre familiar with WoW add ons). There was an actual action bar mod but I saw complaints that it bugs out when you enter vehicles or have other state changes, so i decided against using it.

This is how I currently have mine setup.

The only possible problems I could have with the addons is on Spellslinger I can't remove a ability in my Limited Ability screen for on of the loadouts. I said I would test it without the addons but I forgot.

Mods for that action bar and hp setup.
*ForgeUI (action bars customization selected only)
*KuronaFrames (HP bars, resources, and a lot of other information. Movable to where I want).

sick with the flu so didnt play much today, got to 47, almost 48 tho. Malgrave was the worst zone in the game imo, you guys complain about lack of focus and not knowing where to go in this, wait until Malgrave. I skipped half the zone because it seemed there was no reason to go anyware, and halfway through it sends you to the next zone (Grimvault) anyway! Just awful

Im severely overlvled anyway so Im hoping GRimvault is better since im hitting the home stretch now

Thanks, I'll check out those addons. I really like the design of the default UI though, I just wish you could move the ability bar around and change its transparency.

There is a addon that split up the current UI so you can move them to where you want them. Also if I didn't use the health bar addon the default UI bars would still be there. Just use the ForgeUI action bars portion to put the abilities buttons where you want them.
