what's with british people saying that americans don't "get" their humor. One statement I've also heard is that americans don't "get" irony. what do they mean by that?
I think a lot of people from the non-American English-speaking world who have been to the States for any length of time have experience of making a sarcastic or ironic joke at an American and having them take it seriously, while anywhere else in the world it would be taken as a joke.

American: Where are you from?
Brit: Some little backwater town where people eat their young.
American: Oh my God! That's terrible!

Of course, we might be missing the joke that the response is ironic.

Back on the OP, I'll have to check out Wilfred. I liked the clips but it doesn't appear to be out on DVD here.

I've encountered something like this before, only replace something obviously in jest like eating baies and replace it with something the average european would see as an obvious cultural jab but americans would see as possibly a joke based on some obscure cultural reference but careful not to laugh in case it's true.

Ex: I love cooked animal blood and offal for breakfast.
Haha, that's gross.
What you've never heard of black pudding?

While blood sausage or whatever you want to call it isn't really that obscure, you get the idea. I think digs at americans oftentimes overlook common sense stuff.

You know what's awesome about free will?

You don't have to watch it. Just sit back and enjoy your classic, regional episode without the fear of some foreign assholes remaking your show and destroying your show forever.
