Will Beall writing "Justice League" film

Avengers worked because of Whedon and RDJ. Not to mention the five movies that proceeded it that gave it a great lead in. It also helps that Marvel's characters are a lot more flashy and exciting than DC's characters which are more iconic. There's a reason why Captain America just looked boring next to Iron Man and the Hulk. The Justice Leage will be an entire movie of Captain Americas, and it'll be horrible.

Also the JL cartoon series worked so well because Batman was the goddamned Batman, and the cartoon gave him plenty of space to just be a badass. Good luck translating that into a 2 hour film.

Millar's always full of bullshit, so why would we believe him now?

Red Son was good.

Once again, the only 4 nice words I have about Mark Millar.

maybe I'm a minority but I am personally so sick of super hero origin stories that I avoid them completely. I didn't see any of the MCU films going into avengers and I still enjoyed avengers a whole lot. even though I've never read comics I've been on the internet long enough to have a vague idea who all the characters are.

even after seeing avengers I have no interest in watching the origin movies that buit up to it. I actually did have a minor interest in seeing iron man 2 afterwards since I figured that one wouldn't be an origin, but the word of mouth on the internet seems pretty mixed on that one.

so why did I see avengers in the first place? hype and word of mouth, and I'm certain those other movies built up that hype and word of mouth enough to get me into the theater even though I didn't actually go watch those other movies myself.

This.

Mark's a lovely chap and great fun to be around and work with..... but yeah this.

He's well known for this type of thing in the industry. Let's just say that sometimes his enthusiasm gets the better of him.

They can't have the entire JLA.

I hope they don't. I still can't take Aquaman seriously.

Namor > Aquaman

Spoiler: Mark Millar talks out of his ass 99% of the time.

Remember guys, he has an A-list director lined up for his Superman movie guys! A-LIST!

I still can't take Aquaman seriously.

I am not an Aquaman fan at all but I feel that character has loads of untapped potential.

Seriously. I'd love to pitch WB an Aquaman movie.

That's funny, because word on Gangster Squad hasn't been that great.

Really? I'd heard good things. Where did you hear this?

IIRC there was a screening on the WB lot recently for some industry 'folks' that went down really well.

Or so 'they' say.

im still with the theory that red son had morrison involved somehow. its such a stark difference from the rest of millars work that he couldnt have come up with it by himself.

Aquaman is awesome. Fuck the haters.

The team in the movie has to be the Big Seven. Though I feel like they're going to use the current comic version that switches out Martian Manhunter for Cyborg.

Dear lord no.

Yeah, that's the thing. Marvel's Avengers Initiative flicks were a single continuity, and most of them were comparable in relative (decent) quality. DC puts out a movie when they think they can get away with it, but they tend to be one-shots without any ambition towards establishing a unified canon. I can't imagine, for example, that Superman or Martian Manhunter exist in the world of the Nolan Batman films.

Not saying the movie is ass or anything, but what I'd heard from test screenings was that it was stylized to the point of caricature and kind of underwhelming.

it's not really a theory, the whole ending for Red Son was Morrison's idea.

That's a shame if true.

I had quite high hopes for that project.

But, as always with these things, we'll either way see soon enough.

Screw casting the Justice League with unproven actors.

Make Superman and the Legion of Superheroes. At least people won't judge the actors against the characters as harshly.

The biggest roadblock to DC making good movies is they seem to want to apologize for being comic book properties.

Superman is a regular Joe playing cops and robbers who just so happens to have semi-phenominal nearly-cosmic powers.

Wonder Woman beats the shit out of things while wearing Red Blue and White breast plate and battle skirt.

The Flash rips holes through time and space.

And that's okay! That's why people like them!

That shot at the end of Avengers with the "A" symbol. Yeah they earned that shit, through 4 years 5 movies, and taking risks.

Please don't halfass this.

I think DC's problem is whoever is writing these movies has no concept of the character. Superman Returns turned Superman into a stalker and spent more time with his emotional angst than being Superman. Our big action climax actually happened in the first act with the crashing airplane. There was nothing super about this guy.

I disagree. I don't see Superman as a regular joe. That isn't what I find interesting about him.

I'll admit I'm not a HUGE Superman reader. But I appreciate him when he's written that way.

TAS and the Trinity graphic novel. He's just a guy with powers. He's ok being Clark Kent and if he had to be on all the time.

The SR version where he's semi-isolated from everyone and the alien portion of him is what's being pushed just leaves me cold.

yeah, that part of him is too aloof and cold like you said. but it's there sometimes.
he is the last of his kind and as far as we know he can't have children with earth woman (not just for obvious reasons but for DNA reasons)

frankly I prefered when he was actually married to Lois Lane, it served as an anchor but still allowed him to do his super thing and even share with Lois in his adventures as well as share stories with the Kents.

too bad they retconned it out. now he's back to no parents and no Lois and all alone. maybe the upcoming movie can push it the other way again.

You know they'll bring Lois back front and center. Thats what they want new readers to see when they pick it up. Oh, its Superman and Lois. I know those guys!

Superman's characterization as a god to human beings is something I've always wanted to see explored more in the films. Him having this affinity for human beings due to his upbringing, but becoming somewhat disconnected from them as he becomes Superman and gaining that sort of objective view of humanity. Almost like Dr. Manhattan, but not so cynical.

In fact, the use of Phillip Glass' score in Watchmen for Manhattan has me somewhat disappointed if only because I've always thought of the same score being used when Kal El becomes Superman in the Fortress of Solitude and starts rising off the ground for the first time - literally ascending into his new godlike status.

Sounds like Nolan will be getting more control over DC on film.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118055216

DC execs are excitedly discussing all of the projects in motion with the major exception of its films.

The main reason: Christopher Nolan. With the filmmaker having relaunched Batman (last installment, "The Dark Knight," hauled in $1 billion globally, now surpassed by "The Avengers") and producing Superman pic "Man of Steel," directed by Zack Snyder, WB has increasingly put more control of its DC films in Nolan's hands.

That's similar to how WB entrusted producer David Heyman with all eight "Harry Potter" films.

Nolan has long preferred not to talk about his projects until their release, preserving some of that "movie magic" for the bigscreen.

It's why only one image of Henry Cavill as Superman has been released so far, with the first official footage of "Man of Steel" likely to play at Comic-Con in San Diego next month.

Warner Bros. isn't expected to make any concrete moves on the DC film front until after the third Batpic opens on July 20. Putting so much power in Nolan's hands is an interesting move -- especially as the filmmaker does not have a first-look deal at the studio. Still, WB is showing signs of veering into adventurous creative territory.

Soon Nolan will have control over WB's dress code as well.

So anybody have an idea of who is the DC counterpart of Joss Whedon?
Kevin Smith wrote a Superman script once but it sucked.

Richard Donner helped write a great Superman arc, but he's not really a comic book guy.

Tim Burton wanted the Justice League and Keaton Batman to appear in his Superman movie, but that was going to suck too. :/

WB should do the right thing and make it an animated CGI movie instead of live-action crap.

Their animation stuff is top-notch, but too damn short. There's no reason they can't stretch their movies out beyond the standard 75-85 minutes they normally cram.

This supports what I had just said. They don't know what they are doing. This is another Live action/animated mess like Space Jam. Fully animated CGI movie people. I would love hand-drawn but the art is dead.

space jam was amazing, hold your fucking tongue.

This project is sooooooooo fucking desperate, i kinda feel bad for DC. So much potential in these iconic figures but muted by shitty lesser marvel comic heroes.

Batman >>>>>>>>>>> captain america/black panther
superman >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> iron man
Wonder woman >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> black widow
green arrow >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> hawk eye
hulk >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> aqua man/green lantern (oh wait)
martian >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> thor
Flash >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ALL

This project won't end well. Marvel did it first, no matter how this come out. :(
