Will Mirrors Edge be looked back on as this generation's most visually stunning game?

While Mirror's Edge doesn't pull off technical feats found in franchises like Crysis, Killzone, and Gears. I think Mirror's Edge's clean minimalist look just flat-out holds up better than just about everything out there. Graphical masterpieces from earlier this generation are already showing their age. Mirror's Edge just continues to look outstanding.

There's no need to look any further than YouTube for the proof.

I think this generation was defined by third-person games. It was the genre (if you can call it that) with the most growth.

It would be one of these: Gears, Uncharted, GTA, RDR, AC, GoW

Actually I just bought the game, and I thought it was a poster child for "games from this-gen that have already greatly aged".

those are the games that will age the most in the coming years. re4 still looks nice, but it's one of those things that's 'nice for that gen', like mgs on the psx.

this will have some trouble aging.

It certainly has a unique style with it's super-colorful palettes and it's clinical look. Looks stunning as well.

I just think that, just like anything else, it's impossible to single out one game to be "the best" in anything.

Maybe. The people look hideous, but everything else is so gorgeous. I will say that the PC version is one of the best looking games this generation.

It will definitely be one of them and it has a certain aesthetic that will complement all of it's technical strengths to boot. The gorgeous colors and shadows combined with the sleek city and white backdrop will age like a fine wine.

No. To me there's many games that fit that mold, due to artistic direction, Journey and Lords Of Shadow come to mind. Shit, the first Gears still looks great.

They will of course age, but I interpreted the question about the game that wowed people the most this generation, not how well it will hold up in the future.

They are not the same thing and I would have a different group of games that would fit into the second category.
KIrby's Epic Yarn, Journey, flower; Limbo; games with a strong stylized look.

Colors were a bit too saturated.
But their baked GI trick definitely left a lasting impression. PhysX effects were cool too.

Red Dead Redemption. Climbing to the top of a cliff and seeing a vista open up ahead of you with the music drifting out the speakers was the most spine tingling experience of the generation.

The most visually stunning? For some, sure. For most, no, just because "visually stunning" is a very wide, subjective net. One of the most visually stunning, absolutely.

Was the first thing I installed to check out my new ultra hi res monitor when I first got it.

Game is still stunning. Even more so when you can crank the image quality up to insane levels.

Oculus rift was made for this game.

Mirrors Edge 2 on next gen would blow my mind. I loved the aesthetics of the first, gorgeous game and Great fun if not confusing at times

"Most Visually Stunning", as in, needing to compete with all the other games released on the last 7 years or lose the single spot on some podium? I think not.

As a really good example of genuine art direction and good taste and something to be deeply appreciated? Sure! I love it!

Like i mentioned above. I think it cannot be the most visually stunning game due to the staticness of its world (which is the only reason why it looks the way it does with its crazy baked radiosity).

It looks really good in stills.. but at times it looks incredibly motionless when in game.

But it does win for most consistent and planned art direction probably. Everything feels very right in the game (maybe not the NPC models though).

I reckon it'll be looked back upon as a missed opportunity for the evolution of movement in First Person gaming. Why has no other game, apart from the utter bollocks that is Blink, taken onboard any of its awesome ideas...?

I liked the game. I liked the graphics. But the look was a hit and miss.

It's so sterile, like you're in a huge laboratory.

Uncharted 3 is this gens most graphically striking game.

For me Halo Reach is this gens best visually designed game.
