His proportions were too big, even scaled down, and he was constantly hunched over so he ended up being too wide (more so than DDD and Bowser, even). His frame just doesn't fit without looking ridiculous.

Face it, people: Ridley isn't happening.

Bowser's been every size imaginable, they even explain it in some games with Kamek changing Bowser's size on request. That plus Bowser is more easily scaleable. The same applies for Olimar, at least as long as the size difference between him & the Pikmin is mostly the same as in the Pikmin games.

So has Ridley. They explain it through genetic and robotic augmentation.

Not really, but I think the point is if characters like Bowser can be scaled to be a reasonable size in Smash, when his scale in Smash is only really even close to the NES bowser, then so can ridley.

On Topic, I don't think Ridley will be a character considering Sakurai's statement and the fact the Smash 4 will be ported or Deluxed on the switch.

Nintendo has put effort on the Smash 4 competitive scene. They wouldn't abandon it that quickly.

Not really, but I think the point is if characters like Bowser can be scaled to be a reasonable size in Smash, when his scale in Smash is only really even close to the NES bowser, then so can ridley.

Why are people so gung-ho in "but he can be scaled!" as though that's the only thing that matters?

First off, Bowser's scale in Smash isn't the same as his NES size (he's actually smaller in NES iirc), it's more like he's as tall as Super Mario, or slightly taller.

But even then, Bowser's build and proportions are still well defined. He's standing even in his NES sprite. He is upright and he doesn't take up much space. Look at Ridley's sprite. He's all crooked. Even his other sprites have that "crooked" or folded look to make himself look small. Shrinking him down to accommodate a playable size will make him look awkward, especially when he has to "unfold" when moving, and there's the fact that sprites are flat and therefore have leeways into tricking things. 3D models couldn't render the same thing sprites could (as seen in Pokemon) as they cannot easily "lie" proportions or size, so Ridley is massive to keep his proportions right without cheating. As Professor Beef stated, there are mods that tried to implement Ridley and he looked shit because of that.

Characters that like to spread or unfold, like Duck Hunt, are small in the game and generally aren't problematic when they "unfold".

Kirby is 8 inches tall, and pikachu is human sized. If they can have Charizard they can have Ridley.

Charizard probably wasn't even scaled. The average height given by the Pokédex is 5'7". You shouldn't judge Pokémon sizes based on the anime, it gets lots of them wrong.

How many times does this need to be repeated. Ridley's body proportions makes it impossible to scale without making it look stupid as hell. Same doesn't apply for Olimar or Kirby when upscaling.
