Will Smith, I am tired of thee

I think I got sick of Will Smith at the exact moment he became a scientologist who wouldn't admit he was a scientologist. He can get lost.

Uh oh, Scientology has been mentioned on an internet forum- everyone abandon thread now!

I like Will Smith because I only see him in about 3 movies every decade. You've got to slow your consumption of Willie. He's like carmel corn.

are you joking? wasnt 2009 the first year where we didnt have a Will Smith movie in a long time?

I hate Chevy Chase as an actor. I think I will go rent a few of his movies to wallow and rub in the hate.

Eh, you can say that about most actors and actresses.

can you? i remember it was a (small) big deal when 2009 came and he had no movies lined up. news worthy at least.

He said he didn't watch that many, is all.

see now this can be said about any actor. that guy can watch only 3 movies of any actor in a decade

Exactly. Like someone might go "fuck, I sure am tired of Michael Douglas", but I haven't seen him in anything since... that one shitty movie with Demi Moore where they go into virtual reality or something.

This post reminds me so much of public opinion towards laurel and hardy in their heydays, everybody thought their persona was real and when the truth came out most were shocked.
That doesn't make sense. I can physically see that they dance, sing, act and are funny. I didn't even mention their general dispositions outside of "humorous." I only mentioned things that are public knowledge and, really, can't be faked. Unless you're not trying to say that I've been goaded in to some lie by the media but that's how I took it.

WTF is wrong with you, OP? The title suggests there was a time when you actually appreciated Will Smith, before you grew tired of him.

he's one of the best in hollywood i think, and he needs to release new movie. his last one was seven pounds

Not that you've been goaded to that belief by the media, it was more of a general observation that most people believe that if a celeb acts jolly all the time, his/her life must be like that all the time as well. Tiger Woods until very recently was a perfect family-man and a gentleman to boot, but look at him now. All I'm saying is that we shouldn't take everything at face value, nor the official version or the popular perception of what their contemporary lives must be like.

"Reasonless"?
A large amount of people just love to hate, they hear one thing somewhere or see the media hating on it and they naturally gravitate toward that idea without knowing the full ideology to begin with. Scientology is pretty damn crazy in a lot of ways, but a lot of the hate is (imo) 'reasonless', there may be good reasons to criticize but many condemn anyone who believes in it without knowing it.

That was my point.

"Reasonless"?

Adj. 1. reasonless - not marked by the use of reason; "mindless violence"; "reasonless hostility"; "a senseless act"
senseless, mindless
unreasonable - not reasonable; not showing good judgment
2. reasonless - not endowed with the capacity to reason; "a reasonless brute"
irrational - not consistent with or using reason; "irrational fears"; "irrational animals"
3. reasonless - having no justifying cause or reason; "a senseless, causeless murder"; "a causeless war that never had an aim"; "an apparently arbitrary and reasonless change"
causeless
unmotivated - without motivation

And quite intriguing that instead of giving a proper reason why you hated Will Smith, you just used the popular hate on Scientology as an excuse to be hateful. I guess you have an agenda after all so it might not be that "reasonless" after all.

I don't care about their mythology, they're entitled to that. But I have a serious problem with the way that they deal with their opponents, harassing them in their homes, spreading rumours about them and sending attack dog lawyers after anyone they have a problem with. I don't like the way they try to isolate and control people who come to them for help, making them cut off contact with friends and family members as "suppressive influences." I don't like the illegal acts they've committed, like committing espionage against the US government. But most of all I don't like the harassment and intimidation they give people who try to leave them, stalking them and making phone calls in the middle of the night. That's why they get the grief they do, not because people are just jumping on an internet bandwagon.

Smith has avoided tying himself to them publicly, and I won't sit here and say I actually know that he's a member. He might not have bothered with it. But donating money to their home schooling system and bigging them up in public is not cool. They don't deserve it.

Plus, Seven Pounds was lame.

Anyways, Will has so much fun talking with us he invites us to a get together he's having back at his place, and of course we couldn't turn that down. So he takes off in his limo and we head to the block to call a cab. I whisted for a cab and when it came near the license plate said fresh and had dice in the mirror if anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought nah, forget it yo homes to Bel-Air!

:lol :lol :lol :lol
Some how I skipped over this and saw a quote.

I don't get the hate for Will Smith.
The movie's he's in aren't always the greatest but more often than not it has nothing to do with his performance. He was great in I Am Legend and Pursuit of Happyness for instance.

Tiger Woods has had a rap, at least in the sports world, of being kind of a dick. Throwing clubs, swearing, whining, yelling at people, being wooden and occasionally assholish at pressers, especially if he losses. Then there's the overboard fist pumping, high five with the caddy stuff. Rubs some people the wrong way.

His media image has been the crafted family man, gentlemen image you're talking about which, along with his remarkable talent, the sponsors pay him for.

Will Smith is a terrible "actor". In fact whenever Will Smith is mentioned as an "actor" everyone should always put sarcastic quotation marks around the word "actor".

The only "acting" he does is over"acting". Which is really weird because Will Smith basically just plays every role as Will Smith. So he is really just over"acting" Will Smith's personality.

I like him, maybe because i grew up watching Fresh Prince. The man doest age either.

And his performance in Pursuit of Happiness/I am Legend is evidence that he can act. You cannot deny he's extremely talented.

Will is awesome.

No he can't act. I've seen I am Legend. I've seen Pursuit of Happiness. I've seen Hancock and Independence Day. He's not "acting", he is just playing Will Smith. In some movies that can work. Independence Day and Hancock are two movies that can work in. Hancock still sucked but Will Smith as Will Smith worked in the movie. But he is not an "actor" at all. He is just like Keanu Reeves.

So I just watched Hitch and am now watching Independence Day. The last movie I saw that Will did was "I am Legend". As an actor he bothers me. Maybe its the roles that he chooses but he just seems to OVER DO IT. Am I alone in disliking Will as an actor?
You are not alone. But I do like him in some movies.
Haven't seen I Am Legend yet.
