Will Sony Attempt To Rival The Xbox Elite Controller?

It'll never happen. They may possibly revise the mainline DS4 to address issues, with a version 2 or whatever, but they'll never do a $150 elite DS4.

The elite XB1 controller will probably be used just as much, if not more, by PC gamers vs XB1 gamers. 360/XB1 controller has basically become the go to, main controller of PC gaming. I don't see DS4 trying to get into this territory, it's a niche market that's already dominated by MS.

Will Sony make a $150 controller that no one will buy? No, most people think $60 is too much.

But, people have been buying the controller. It was one of the most pre-ordered items during E3...

Say what you will about the price but there is a market for it. That being said I doubt Sony will make one.

Totally unnecessary imho. DS4 is already one of the best controllers out there if you factor battery life out. And my launch controller (now one and half year old) still goes strong. Build quality is superb

DS4 is not that great of a controller. Sony has still failed to even surpass a 10 year old controller (Xbox 360) and the touch pad does not make up for the DS4s numerous deficiencies.

DS4 is miles ahead of DS3 can't see them doing an improved version unless it's for a genre of game that gets massively popular over the next few years.

Why would they? These things are for a very specific market of tournament level gamers, whom already have access to these types of controllers. I'm honestly surprised MS decided to make an official one but since the XB1 controller is supposed to be the De-facto controller of PC gaming, I suppose it makes some level of sense.

Anyway, I doubt a PS version would garner enough sales to justify its existence.

If it sells well, and so there is a market for overpriced controllers marketed for elite core gamers, then Sony as a business, will follow suit. Sorry but I see this elite controller as a smart cash grab rather than something beneficial to gamers, at $149.

I'd be down if Sony also released native drivers for windows with it and the same level of input customization handled by the controller itself like the elite.

Triple the battery life and put in a light switch to turn off the light for the morpheus. If they can't turn it off at a software level, do it at a hardware level. The rest is perfect for me.

Cash grab? Not beneficial? You should probably use one or one like it before making those assumptions.

The DS4 is a poorly made cash grab. We're not exactly venturing out the wheelhouse.

The DS4's build quality is just fine imo..Just hope they eventually put a bigger battery in it. I don't what people are doing with their sticks, but mine look just fine after hours of gaming on them..Triggers are awesome. I hated my X1 controller, until MS was smart enough to fix the shitty bumpers and make it on par with the 360 controller. Bought the Covert controller for $30, and its amazing. I don't think Sony needs to invest in a "pro" controller, because the DS4 is just fine - the battery life..

accessory pricing in general have large profit margins. ds4 supposedly costs $20-30 to make. some people would consider that a cash grab if you're marking something up by 2-3x its cost. doubt its any different for xbox.

whether or not its beneficial/"worth it" will be a subjective thing.

No offense, but $149 for a controller, will it play Crysis or something? Is it made of machined unibody aluminium or something?

Lets not deny this is in another realm of accessories cash grab. Nothing to do with "Pro" gaming benefits, it is more for their hardcore Xbox fans or those who would pay $350 for a DX Racer chair.

It certainly feels like a Sony thing to do. There's still a few of them in charge that love overpriced super niche stuff.

While I do think there will be those who find this controller worth it, we do have to be realistic since this industry convinces people to spend hundreds on oversized paper weights and plastic shells for smartphones at hundreds a pop. :P

I think this controller will sell decently, but seeing as it wont sell that well(probably), simple economics will tell you the profit margins on each sold need to be higher to negate that.

So if it could be done better and cheaper why wouldn't you want to see Sony make that?
I'm not a 'Pro' gamer but something with better quality materials, a better battery (or AA support,) back paddles and trigger stops would be very appealing to me.
Sure as hell am not a Hardcore XBOX fan lol.
Don't know what a DX Racer chair is, but I'll take an Eames if you're offering.
