Will Sony Kickstart big budget Vita games?

That would be a perfect way to test demand. On the other hand they might not will be willing to be embarrassed when said kickstarter fails.

Even if we kickstarted the entire production budget for Gravity Rush 2 or Zero Escape 3, Sony would not make them.
That being said, I want whatever the OP is drinking. Seems like really great stuff.

And I say this as an owner of THREE Vitas and somewhere in the ballpark of 125 Vita games.

all the "no" right after Sony dropped 3 megatons that GAF would have said no to (until it actually happened)
everyone needs a tinge of irony

No

Yes

Sony isn't using Kickstarter for Shenmue, Sony is backing Ys Net who is using Kickstarter. It is an important distinction. Shenmue 3 will be self-published by Ys Net.

There is zero probability that we will see Sony using Kickstarter for its first party publishing operations.

Kickstarter isn't meant for big publisher. I think it's insulting toward the gamers to ask for money when you're a big publisher who do have that money. They take the risk, period.
Something's going wrong either way.

Just imagine the reactions when instead of a Shenmue III kickstarter they would have announced a Killzone Mercenary 2 kickstarter at the press conference. There's your answer

I'm not going to fork over cash for a system Sony sold me, and proceeds to ignore like 3 months after it launches. They lied.

'No' on so many planes.

-If a big-ass corporation like Sony tried to Kickstart one of their own properties the backlash would be huge.

-It makes no sense from a financial standpoint to make high budget titles Vita exclusive.

-The Kickstarter would not be able to raise enough money to fund these games and they don't go on to sell enough to be profitable either.

This thread.

Sure, it's not going to happen.

But acting like there is no demand is crazy. Vita games/stretch goals get lots of kickstarter funding on a regular basis. There's definitely vita lovers on kickstarter.

Sony should never kickstart their own games. Sony is a large corporation. They can fund their own games themselves. I fear people are starting to miss the point of kick starter...

If Killzone Mercenary and Gravity Rush would have been large financial successes, we wouldn't have this discussion...

So, my answer is: no.

I wonder what Gio Corsi and his team are working on.
IIRC Sony created that team to port/localize games on the Vita...
tbh I dont expect anything from sony anymore, but would be more than happy if Square Enix releases something like KH 1.5/2.5 or FF XII port

Sony most likely never will. Some people seem to still be confused about the shenmue situation, in which it is a game that Sony holds no right to, Sony is not directly making and only stated they would provide support (how much? we do not know). So normally smaller devs and pubs start kickstarters to fund a project or to secure even greater funding by using KS to show that project may generate interest.
