Will Spotify ever come to Xbox One and Switch?

I used to ask this all the time regarding HBO Go on my PS3....and now a thread in OT regarding Spotify is making me wonder why on earth in 2017 I can't stream my favorite Saves the Day album through my Xbox One while I'm playing Forza Horizon 3.

Is there some form of Sony exclusive window? I feel like its been a while now. I live by Spotfiy on my PS4, I need it on my Xbox and future Switch. Spotify is widely available and is even on many smart TVs. What gives?

Sony obviously locked it down in some manner. Not sure how, but yea it sucks. It needs to be on as many things as possible.

Probably not, part of the deal to get Spotify on PS4 (including free tiers) was console exclusivity. At the time it seemed like a big deal on the business side--Sony would give up on PlayStation Music and Spotify would gain all of those subscribers.

Doubt Sony will let it go so easily. Spotify exclusivity is more worth to keep than some games. Service is pretty requisited.

Truly a shame. Groove sucks.

It's already available on Switch in the same way that voice chat is.

Jokes aside, probably not. The contract posted above doesn't actually mention Playstation but there is definitely some kind of exclusivity to Sony involved in the console space. I'd like that to end but who knows when whatever deal they made expires. I do expect other streaming services to eventually come to Switch, and basically everything else is already on both PS4 and XBO.

Yeah Spotify has become one of the things that's made PS4 my console of choice this gen, switching music on the fly between online games is super fun. When I finally got my Xbox One I was pretty confused why they had anything else. Hope it changes eventually.

I'd like my Switch to remain a GAME console. For all the other media crap I can simply use my phone or PS4. Nevermind that my Switch is already on, I'd rather go somehere else instead having it in one location.

There is no harm in adding what people are asking for.

What!? Xbox One doesn't have a Spotify app!?

Not sure if I find this or OP's fondness for Saves the Day more shocking.

Sony snatched that shit.

Completely sucked when it happened too as there was a ton of debate and a huge thread over on the Spotify community forums over the possibility of an Xbox One Spotify App. To this day it remains one of the most requested on their entire website... then they just out of the blue announce an exclusive deal with Sony.

I mean, it's not enough to just get the app on your console, you have to go and be complete assholes and make it so no other console can get that app? Which is a buggy version of the app that normally you see running on TV Apps.

Meanwhile MS is sitting there with Sony's shitty Crackle app on their console. Hell, they're even beta testing a new update/version of the Crackle app for Sony right now. It's still kind of jank/shit tbh.

spotify UWA is already on the windows store for PC, so the only thing preventing the Xbox app must be contractual. I really doubt spotify would agree to generation or permanent exclusivity, it must be timed.

Also, I suppose apple music on xbox shouldn't be too far away too.

Sony gave up on Music Unlimited? and put that money into Spotify exclusivity, plus Sony is a huge music publisher that can kill just about any music streaming service if it decided it wanted to.

Edit: Sony is the 2nd largest music publisher, ahead of Warner but behind Universal.

There are workarounds on Xbox One. I use Spoticast and it recently got a much needed UI overhaul. Worth the price and comes with background play.

I doubt it will ever happen - access to Sony Music is more important to Spotify than being stuck as a PS exclusive.

Probably don't really consider the audience loss that significant as no doubt captured on another platform.

groove and mixer? if they count, since they're microsoft products after all

might as well consider twitch a ps4 exclusive because the xbox app sucks so much

It was decent at one point and then Twitch just let it get bogged down, buggy and clunky.

Mixer was a much needed step because that Twitch app was just unkept.

Sony is large music publisher is an understatement, specially if you look at from worldwide perspective.

This and PS Vue is just Sony flexing its muscles. To be honest, I wish they would do some more flexing and bring Vue to Canada and Europe.

Yeah, I think it's a "win-win" situation for both.
Also, the majority of subscribers use Spotify on mobile anyway.

Lol not this again yeah it's a game console but why say no to adding more services other current game consoles have? Can't damage control to this and say no to more services. Don't worry if it had services it's still a game console where you can play your games on it

What does that have to do with the thread? If you don't want something, it's logical to avoid it, which means changes nothing for you...
