I would say I don't even care anymore but that's honestly a lie because of all the great memories I have of the game. I just don't see how it would work with voice acting and I don't know how they would be able to re-do everything in FF7 with ps4 graphics without it costing like $200 million. That game had way more in it than games do now.
Yeah. As much as a big-event FFVII Remake would excite people & even likely make a lot of money, it's got to be a logistical nightmare.
I mean, you might have to essentially sacrifice the production of a brand new mainline FF for
years, as remaking VII from the ground-up on a next-gen platform would take a ton of money, time, and man-power. Not sure if I would want that, as I want to see the FF series continue to move forward (jokes about XIII and '10 year Versus dev cycle' aside).
You also have to account for how massive VII is- the world, the amount of text/dialogue, mini-games, enemy variety, etc. Apples-to-apples it absolutely dwarfs something like FFXIII in size and scope. Cut
any of that and you immediately burn fans of the original. In fact, I think many fans of VII would expect additional content to keep things fresh. I, for one, played VII almost to the point of memorization.
A major production partner (one of the big boys like Sony or MS) might help significantly, but would S-E even want to take that plunge?
Maybe it would be easier to put together some kind of HD remaster of VII (i.e. upgraded character models, hi-res pre-rendered backgrounds*, new CG cutscenes, etc.) to encourage people to play it again- then hit fans with a next-gen JRPG FFVII-2 that follows the events of Advent Children? A lot of vocal fans of the original would probably dry-heave at the thought of that, but I have no doubt it would still be very successful. It also wouldn't have to be nearly the undertaking of remaking the entirety of VII.
(*Then again, I seem to recall a story years ago regarding someone at S-E saying they don't even have hi-def renders for the backgrounds in VII any more... but maybe I'm confusing that with something else...?)
All that said, I have no doubt S-E is hoping/praying FFXV has the same kind of impact on the gaming community that VII did upon its release. The story is already starting to write itself: The JRPG genre has fallen back into its 'niche' status with gamers and
BAM- FFXV not only ignites the worldwide popularity of JRPGs again, but also the Final Fantasy brand. S-E starts rolling in money, it inspires them to take risks with game productions again, and Moto Toriyama is allowed to make a major Hollywood movie based on Lightning.

S-E needs that game to be a hit so badly, especially with Nomura tinkering around with it for almost 9 years when it's likely all said, done, and released.
Verendus claims a megaton FFVII Remake is coming.
At this point I'll simply have to see it to believe it.
