We heard a rumour a while back that the development kits were not and the popular consensus was not to assume they would be at retail.

We haven't heard much since. Surely at this point devs with kits are able to avoid the ninjas and let us know, right?

Can we discuss reasons why Nintendo would forego this feature yet again? Are you going to import it if it isn't? I sure as hell am.

Multiple rumours from people proven to have good sources have said it will be region free, not just once. I'd say there is a >75% chance of it being region free as things stand.

Given it sounds like a fairly worldwide launch, your shipping time will probably mean you just get it later than domestic buyers.

At this point, I don't know why they would. I understand the reason why such a feature can have reason to exist, like different publishers having the rights to a game in different regions. However, since all the competition has basically dropped the feature, or made it optional and almost nobody ever opts in, it doesn't seem to be something that publishers realistically care about. So at that point it just leaves Nintendo's own wishes as a publisher versus it being a pain in the ass for Nintendo's biggest customers.
