I don't ASK many dumb questions. At least I don't think I do. But this kinda relates to the Playstation brand thread (feel free to merge them mods, but I didn't want to derail). I don't think Sony will ever drop the Playstation brand, but I'm wondering about Nintendo.
Back when some of us PSP afficienados were certain the DS was merely a twin-screened corpse-to-be, a popular Nintendo fan defense was that, "this is just a third pillar, the Gameboy line will produce a GBA2 on par with the PSP." Well....I guess the third pillar fell over and flattened the GBA and PSP in one fell swoop. The DS is a juggernaut.
Does this now mean that the DS line will ride out another 2-3 years with no second pillar? Consoles were the first pillar, handheld gaming the second pillar, and the DS the third gaming option. But right now, there doesn't seem to be any logical reason for Nintendo to release another Gameboy. Hell, they might well want to replace the Gameboy with the DS brand. Any thoughts? Is the Gameboy dead? Is Nintendo's handheld future forever relegated to twin screens of low-to-middling visuals? Or is a PSP-killing Gameboy waiting in the wings? Let's rap a taste.
BTW, let's limit the sales discussion in this thread, unless it's pertinent to proving your point. As I noted, the sales war is over and done with.
