Will we ever get a cinematic game (think Naughty Dog) that is a comedy?

So, cinematic games keep getting more and more movie like, with studios like Naughty Dog creating movie-like scenes with the use of motion captured actors on a soundstage. Most of these games are either blockbuster-esque action/adventures (like Uncharted) or are more dramatic (like TLOU). I've been thinking about this for a while. The initial spark for this was from way back when it was revealed Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg were approached by Sony to write and direct the Uncharted movie (they obviously passed). I then wondered if they would ever be interested in doing a comedy game with all the trappings of a cinematic game. Will we ever see a video game studio attempt a game that is simply a pure comedy? Would a game of this sort work? Which studio would be best equipped to make one? Would you even like to see one?

Edit- There seems to be confusion of what I'm referring to as cinematic games. I'm strictly talking about games that have their cutscenes directed on a big soundstage with the actors working live off of each other as opposed to a soundbooth.

There's is funny cinematic game. It's called Uncharted.
I think Uncharted has enough comedy in it.

I don't think you can make a pure comedy cinematic game.

When developers make games cinematic, they are generally trying to have their game be taken seriously. That's at odds with making a comedy. So no, I don't see this happening.

comedy and games is doable but with tons of caveats.

maybe a Suda51-ish take on a cinematic game could work. but it's like comedy in music, it's hard to make an earnest attempt without being terrible

Remember the old sorcerer demo that quantic dream make? Ever since that demo, I really want QD to make comedy game using their brand of gameplay, imagine this old actor got transported to fantasy world and start adventure trying to go back seems like such a good idea.

Full on comedy us not that easy to pull off in an interactive setting . Or at the least hasn't been tackled well yet . The motive in games has often been do well at "said gameplay" you will also want to emphasise being "funny" I'm not sure how to do that using the "cool" points system from say tony hawk cause it gets repetitive ... But only in cinematic scenes ? It's quite a risk too .

Actually, perhaps the best example of a cinematic comedy game, albeit not as big budget or as technically polished as Naughty Dog's games, is SWERY's D4. Now that's something special, but it doesn't seem to have found a particularly large receptive audience.

The closest I can think of would be Grasshopper Manufacturer/Suda51 games. Not exactly 'Naughty Dog' level or full on 'cinematic', but the likes of Shadows of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw, and even No More Heroes, Killer is Dead, etc., did play up their comedy aspect and had character story points happen during gameplay, tied in the ridiculous gameplay aspects to the story itself, and of course had cinematics. For actual cinematic games, Swery's D4 I think is the closest so far (and it's actually very well done, I might add).

I've had it in my mind for a long time I really want a developer to make a high-budget & effort musical game. It could be a game of any typical AAA budget, IE an action game, a shooter, an adventure game, whatever, but it just also be a musical. There's challenges in that for fucking certain, but I want to see it happen. It's not that there have been no musical games, and there are of course games that combine rhythm genre stuff with other genres, but I just mean a game that's played straight gameplay wise mostly but story is told as a musical all the way through (not always singing but song numbers that integrate in someway into gameplay).

My random thoughts there.

A lot of confusion over what is a cinematic in this thread.

Since making cinematic games is very expensive I'd say the chances are about the same as you seeing a comedy film with the budget of Avatar, slim.

Brutal Legend is the closest thing I can think of in recent years. Comedy games are rare generally, but they're almost non-existent in the broad-appeal AAA space.

South Park.

The Stick of Truth plays like a 12 hour South Park movie. I hope the Fractured but Whole is the same.

I don't see value in such a thing. There are plenty of comedic games out there. Why do they have to be cinematic also?

Portal 1 and 2, South Park Stick of Truth and its sequel. The Fractured But Whole.

Ratchet and Clank has comedy mixed into it...

What hasn't someone else mentioned yet... Doesn't Saints Row have a bunch of comedy in it as well?

We do have them sprinkled in here and there.

Uncharted has wit, which is great. I'm talking consistent laughs that sorta hurt your stomach.

In my opinion, be it films or to shows, never is this successful when the intention is consistent laughs. It's all about the balance of comedy between drama, suspense etc. Which is why I find Uncharted, Ratchet so funny.

Naked Gun is consistent laughs, haters be damned.
