Just announced by Robot Invader, Wind-Up Knight is a "timing challenge"/platformer, "sort of," for Android and iOS and coming this fall. It's being touted as a mobile graphical powerhouse and "diabolically difficult."

We are absolutely, positively, fantastically excited to announce Robot Invader’s first game: Wind-up Knight, coming this fall to Android and iOS.

Wind-up Knight is a game designed to test your mettle.

We know you enjoy screwing around on your phone when you have an extra five minutes to kill. There are plenty of games out there that are slightly less boring than shuffling your feet or trying to read the eight month old sports magazine at your dentist’s office. Sure, maybe they are not great games, but hey, it beats staring off into space.

Wind-up Knight is different. It’s a platformer, sort of. It’s a timing challenge, sort of. One thing’s for sure, it’s designed to test you. Test your gaming prowess. We’re talking design with no remorse, diabolically difficult levels that will keep you up at night. You know how to play games, you don’t need any hand-holding. Checkpoints are for wimps. Power-ups are for wimps. Wind-up Knight is about being totally awesome in the face of insidiously challenging stages.

Oh, and did we mention that it has some of the best art and graphics that you’ve ever seen on your phone or tablet? You spent some serious dough on that thing and now it’s time to put that fancy mobile technology to work.

Sure, you could play this game for five minutes at a time. But we think you’ll play for longer than that, a lot longer; brief respite will come only when your phone’s battery dies. Because after you school one level, there’s another waiting to up the ante just a little bit more. Look, the dentist can wait. This is Serious Business. This is Wind-up Knight.

Lots more information is coming soon. Watch this space. In the meantime, check out the screenshots below.

Who is Robot Invader? I only know of one of the core members of the team, Chris Pruett, who in a previous life, worked in the games industry before moving onto Google and making the superb Replica Island for Android. He left earlier this year to co-found Robot Invader. He is also a huge horror game buff. So I have a lot of excitement for this new project with the weight of a real team behind it. Robot Invader has said they're committed to bringing console-like experiences to mobile, high risk of failure yes but it's obvious they have enthusiasm. And how isn't sick of casualware on their phones? I know I am.

Damn, I thought it would be a spin-off of Clockwork Knight or something.

Shit, I bolted into this thread for the same reason.

The Clockwork Knight salsa video that came on the disc with the Saturn I bought is ingrained in my mind for all time.

All this without tangible buttons? Hahahahahaha!

does it have onscreen buttons/analog? Thats why i can't get into complex mobile games. Hate using onscreen buttons.

Chris built his game Replica Island around the trackball when that was the only Android controls in town, and then adapted it to d-pads and virtual keys later, and it actually worked really well. When a game is built around a control scheme there usually aren't deficiencies.

Besides that many Android phones have buttons.

Just the trial version is free. I played through it and didn't like it.

- unresponsive touchscreen controls
- overly difficult first levels
- not very interesting artistically
- load times everywhere

Not for me I'm afraid, bit trip runner has already done the same game but better
