Wind Waker Link is so good.

IM SO HAPPY to see such a warm welcome to the little guy! I love him so much

Look at him

It took some time for him to grow on me when Wind Waker was new. I remember seeing screenshots of the game in a magazine and being like, "wow they fucked up; he looks like that elf who wanted to be a dentist."

But I got the game anyway, because it's Zelda. And now I love him because omg look at him he's sooo cuuute!

Child Link has always been better than the stoic cool warrior they try to play teen Link as most of the time.

The only game where that could even apply would be OoT, and that just may be hw limitations.

so I dunno what you're talking about.

Everything about the aesthetic in WW is on point.
It's literally the only thing I actually like in that game.
Music is goddamn forgettable but it did gave us Dragon roost island which is incredible.
Everything else is basically the worst out of all the Zelda games out there.
I think I prefer playing any other Zelda game but this one.
The 4Swords games were more fun, Minich Cap had more interesting quests, the DS Zelda were certainly better paced and had better navigation (and were also harder).
Coming off the Oracle games, Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, it was one of the biggest disappointment of its era after Yoshi Story.
Heck we had Star Fox Adventure to make us wait a little till we got a real Zelda, we got that shit instead...
Sometimes I hate the Gamecube, thank god for Prime.
Makes you wonder if TP is so appreciated because it's after such a disappointing game...

Maybe i've played the game one too many times, but the music is very memorable to me. Dragon Roost, yes, but also the main sailing theme, the fight against Molgera, the theme during the opening exposition, the theme against Helmaroc King, the song of the pirates.

Definitely stands squarely against other Zelda games.

He's my favorite link design

I wish more folks liked him

But folks prefer a more realistic-ey link

There was a design for a toon adult link i think in th muso game

I wanna see that shit

Toon Link is easily the best Link

huge bummer that Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass were so bad, though :\

smh

I'll give you Phantom Hourglass, but I'll refer you back to my official ranking for Spirit Tracks:

It's the worst handheld Zelda, it gets just the right amount of love

Link Between Worlds > Spirit Tracks > Link's Awakening > LTTP (GBA) > Oracle of Seasons > Oracle of Ages > Phantom Hourglass > Minish Cap

Not my favourite link but was definitely the first link that had a unique personality for a decent time. Give it to skyward sword and botw link now in terms of personality. OOT & LTTP link are probably the most iconic though.

I don't remember seeing a design like that in hyrule warriors, but there was that statue in Wind Waker? I always liked the way that one looked too.

:O what's your beef with Minish Cap?? I love that game.

I really don't like Minish Cap that much either, it looks and sounds gorgeous but the overworld is pretty poor compared to the gameboy games. I'd still call it decent though.

He's amazingly adorable, and aged super well, much better than most other character designs from early 2000's.

More games including WW link will definetly pop up in the future. Just think about the zeldas since WW.

WW->Four swords/four swords adventure -> Minish Cap -> twilight princess -> Phantom Hourglass -> Spirit Tracks ->skyward sword -> ALBW -> Triforce heroes -> breath of the wild

6 out of 10 use the WW aesthetics. Though I didnt add the 3D remakes, only the new and original Zelda games. Yes we didn't get another full home console Zelda including him yet, but consistency in using the design is still a good enough sign. Since Nintendo will make both 2d/3d games on Switch now, the next Zelda game including WW Link will be most likely powered by Tegra inside the Switch.

Yep. It was the last fantastic Zelda game before A Link Between Worlds and Breath of the Wild. This game was the game i was waiting for since OOT. Luckily it delivered for the most part.

This was the only link in the entire series who felt like an actual character

Not a guy named link that we control...like, an actual character

He gets bored, annoyed, sleepy, terrified, angry, curious...you know except for just "HYAATTT KATT SYAAAAHH"

Fuck no.
The only tracks worth shit are :
Dragon roost island,
Legendary opening (that you only actually hear once),
battle theme,
mini boss battle theme,
All boss battles
and that's about it.
The overworld theme is sleep inducing (which goes along well with the whole navigation being so boring) but then again at the time the last great overworld theme was in aLttP some 10 years prior.
I'll give props for the dynamic battle themes, they're absolutely perfect the way they are though.
It's too bad Dragon roost island is basically pointless outside of 1 or 2 trips there, minibosses are sparce enough that you don't even get to enjoy the track all that much.
And on top of that if you fight while sailing the music chosen is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.
Doesn't help when you spend what feels like days in that horrible dungeon with the stealth section with the horrible music there.

I'm still pissed at Nintendo making a big deal out of Skyward Sword orchestral soundtrack and the finished product forcing you to listen to the most boring tracks for 98% of the playtime.

Something that BotW got right at least (if only that!). Most of your time the music is either subdued to got along the theme they're going for or you're listening to glorious tracks.
Heck if the whole game was just full of Kass quests it would be even better, nothing beats exploring and hearing the accordion in the distance. Now if he would keep playing while talking...

e: I have the soundtrack and it's surprisingly more solid even though there's a load of filler in there.

I like Toon Link so much. I like the Toonish BotW now as wel. Hope they still with those two for a while.

Wind Waker is also the best Zelda

Only one that comes close is Ocarina of Time

Except the dungeons being mindlessly simple, and that "find the locations of the maps with the locations of the fractured functionless things you need" mission at the end.

That and LTTP exists...and the first Zelda. And BotW.

I was so disappointed dealing with BotW Link (with all the life of a dead fish) in the story after Wind Waker Link. BotW Link's overworld expressions (like cooking and at the Great Faeries) made me think Nintendo really had it...and then they didn't. *sigh*

BotW Link should take notes.

How they handled that is still really odd - after what they achieved with the WW and SS Links' expressiveness, having BoTW barely emote at all in cutscenes is a bizarre choice. Did they not think it fit the more serious tone of the flashbacks? In any case, he feels like a complete nonentity instead of a silent character.

What's even stranger in comparison is that he's reasonably expressive in actual gameplay.

BotW Link and Toon Link are by far Link's best designs imo. They are incredibly likeable, from the moment you first see them in the game, you think "ey, this is a cool little dude", unlike, say... TP Link. God, he looks like such a prick...

Actually, I hate every single design choice that they made for Twilight Princess. Most of the art for that game is hideous. Yuck.

Toon Link is easily the best Link

huge bummer that Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass were so bad, though :\

Phantom Hourglass was weak, I'll give you that, but Spirit Tracks? Bruh, I will defend that game till my dying breath.

He looks like hes about to bbq that dog.

How.

How the fuck did you came to that thought after watching the gif.
Why
Why nobody would bbq a dog after hugging them, what

I don't get it, I want you to explain me why

Nobody should bbq a dog, and the hero of twilight would be displeased at it

why

Definitely. Wind Waker Link is still my favorite Link. He's great.

WW Link > BotW > SS

None of the others even have a personality, really.

The world is just so full of whimsy and expressiveness; it's difficult not to get charmed. While I acknowledge that it isn't the strongest game in the series with regards to dungeon difficulty/quantity, it's one of my favorites because it's a joy to move about and experience its colorful cast.

Fuck no.

How are you forgetting "Outset Island"? It's such a lovely track.

Edit:

"Inside the Pirate Ship"
"Hyrule Castle"

I love Windwaker and it's my second favorite Zelda game though I do wish that it wasn't rushed so we could play the real Windwaker game that Nintendo wanted to make.

Having said that I will gladly replay Windwaker over Breath of the Mild.

How they handled that is still really odd - after what they achieved with the WW and SS Links' expressiveness, having BoTW barely emote at all in cutscenes is a bizarre choice. Which makes it even more annoying as for the first time in the series the player were not given the option to rename Link and yet Nintendo did nothing to give Link any sense of character but yet the one that we could rename have some sense of character.

BotW for me. OoT link after just for the 90s art style (I like alot of that sorta edgy older stuff tbh. Ninja Scroll/Cowboy Bebop). MM + WW Link is tied, Child Link from OoT and TP Link after that.

WW Link is great, though I refuse to play the game without him in his pajamas. So disheveled, haha.

My favorite is BotW Link, though. This game nails the cel-shaded character design while still allowing for more realistic proportions.

(yeah I wish he was more expressive in the flashbacks)

My favorite Zelda game of all time. The art animations are just amazing even today. This has always been my favorite despite people.

I kinda wonder what the Wind Waker style would look like in the current gen,, since the world is bound to be more detailed and complex in general

I get the feeling the backlash to Wind Waker is still floating around in Aonuma's brain, and with the best selling Zelda games being Twilight Princess and Ocarina, I wouldn't expect another game in the vein of Wind Waker again any time soon

I completely fell in love with toon link the first moment I played wind waker when it came out and I never quite understood the backlash for the celshaded artstyle.

Link was so incredibly expressive for the time and had so much personality despite never saying a word.

I really enjoyed WW the first time through but replaying it on the wii u made me love it even more and it's currently just behind Orcarina for my favorite Zelda.

My favorite is BotW Link, though. This game nails the cel-shaded character design while still allowing for more realistic proportions.

Yup, dreamy as hell for me in terms of what I want out of a Link. Now if we can just nudge it even further to that OG artwork for the first game.

I don't like the chibi design. I'm fine with it for the 2D games since a realistic Link wouldn't work, but I'm glad the 3D Zelda games have been keeping characters designs with more realistic proportions.

I think BotW is probably my favorite look for Link.
