Wind Waker Link is so good.

It's funny for me to see threads like this, because I still remember people HATED Wind Waker Link back when the game was first revealed. The internet threads in 2001 on "The Legend of Celda," as snarky people liked to call it back then, were brutal. I remember folks crying about how they were never going to get the mature, anime Link hinted at in the Spaceworld demo, and plenty saying they were done with the series forever. I was a member of an anime forum back then and one guy even went on a long rant saying Zelda was dead, and that if Toon Link happened to be an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros Melee (which I think had JUST come out), it would effectively be Nintendo parodying themselves. The hate was real! I think only me and a handful of other people on that forum were trying to defend the game, basically saying "trust Nintendo." We were eventually proven right and now you have threads like this nearly two decades later. Warms the heart, I suppose.

Best Link and best Zelda game. The sheer amount of personality he conveys through his expressions, his voice, and his animations is just the best. No other Link really comes close.

I also always appreciated how WW Link wasn't the chosen one at first. He was just some kid who was in it to save his sister. He wasn't just handed the title of the Hero of Winds by the gods, he earned it through hard work and determination.

It mostly received that hate because they showed off a completely different art style in the Game Cube teaser at Space World 2000. So everyone had that in mind when Nintendo comes out of nowhere with the new art style in the Space World 2001 Wind Waker trailer. After a year of people getting hyped for the 2000 Link, the cel shaded Link winking at the end of the trailer didn't go over very well.

People are idiots and don't know what they want.

That said Wind Waker is one of the most charming games I have ever played. I never bought a Wii U so I would love if that got ported over. I would gladly pay full price to play through it again with my kids who will go bananas for the characters in the game. The ending might be a bit much for them though (they are only 6).

I think they'll handle the ending just fine. At that age, I was already seeing fatalities in Mortal Kombat and watching horror movies and I wasn't any more fearless or mature than any other kid. Hell, if anything, the ending will be rather powerful to them and will make them remember the game more fondly

How.

How the fuck did you came to that thought after watching the gif.
Why
Why nobody would bbq a dog after hugging them, what

I don't get it, I want you to explain me why

Nobody should bbq a dog, and the hero of twilight would be displeased at it

why
How else would you carry it onto the pit? 🙃

I'll never understand how this design got past QA, obviously a lot of people protested over this design internally, I wonder how many straight up left to work for another company.

My parents didn't care about me seeing violence as a kid either (different feelings on nudity).

Times have changed my friend.

Yeah, I remember being in various forums and people totally destroyed any good intents from Nintendo to bring something new to the table. What a good dinner they had, full of crow

Still funny to think that at one time the Internet collectively shat its pants over this Link, calling it an abomination.

I wonder if in one dark corner of the web there is still a Guild of Anti Celdaites.

The GOAT Amiibo.
Still the best looking one yet.
Cool peeps bought his Nendoroid instead.

BotW and Majora may be better games, but WW had ALL the heart. Such a love letter to all the series protagonists. How did that lifeless bore-fest of TP came after this i'll never understand... People really don't know what they want.

Best Link and still my favorite Zelda. I think it has the best mix of story and exploration so far outside of maybe A Link Between Worlds. Art direction is also my favorite of all the Zelda's. Breath of the Wild was too light on story, Skyward Sword was too light on exploration. I haven't played Twilight Princess in forever but I remember at the time not liking it as much as Wind Waker. Ocarina of Time's exploration doesn't really hold up anymore, although the game is still fantastic. Majora's Mask is my least favorite 3D Zelda.

Best link, but people saying is the best zelda have either:

1) Not played any other Zelda game
2) Played it so long ago that they only kept the good memories.

Next game Link should be as emotive as WW/Toon Link, dunno why BotW isn't he looks perfect to have so much emotion too. Altho he had lots of neat animations tho that's for sure. But in cutscenes he is just a robot.

Yeah, I love the style of Wind Waker, and Link himself is so charming. Normally he comes across like a bit of a robot (especially in TP) but he was very characterful and emotive in WW for a mute character.

I've just started playing Breath of the Wild so I can't form a proper opinion on it yet, but so far The Wind Waker is still my favourite 3D Zelda.

I find BOTW Link charming af, I love him and his world, add a bit more of goof like in WW and you have the perfect mix, he is kind of a robot trhough the memories and I wont lie, it feels off.

That counts though, not like their opinion is harmful in any way!

I remember the salt at the time over the aesthetic of Wind waker. But I was heavily into cel shading and thought it looked beautiful.

Over the years it's proved to be a timeless art style that was only improved with the Wii U remaster.

Whereas Ocarina/Majora look like fucking ass.

Yep, the design of the character is amazing. He's so expressive and funny, Wind Waker is awesome.

Sadly I don't like how it has a lot less detail than the first WW Link amiibo, because I really like the pose. The shield is mostly plain, as are his clothes. They don't have the same texture as the old one, and the belt is worse too. It makes the figure look cheap and kinda crappy, which is a shame.

I love WW Zelda and the other WW Link though, and wish there was a Tetra one.

Yes, I like the explanation to why he was so cold and inexpressive, but it still feels weird at times. Like during
Mipha's memory, he was in love with her and yet it doesn't show in his face. He looks at her like a random acquaintance, not his future wife.
WW Link would have made that scene feel much more heartwarming. I still like BotW Link a lot, but he's not expressive at all.

It always happens, you might give it a look to Skyrim with no texture... I kinda totally prefer it to vanilla Skyrim, tbh

Indeed, OP! Best Link, best 3D Zelda, tied for best Zelda ever alongside A Link to the Past.

The Wind Waker is just on a whole different level from the rest of the franchise and most games in general.

I was thinking about that scene really, it was weird but probably was made that why because
Nintendo always leave the door open to the player to link with Link huahahahah and some of the players might not like her at all, I dont understand why they wouldnt but...

WW was amazing until the quest bullshit at the end. I actually never finished it due to that.

I had the same issue with the GameCube original. Thankfully the remake fixed that, and I was able to complete it.

Personally I'm more fond of WW then BotW.

What? They are basically the same design.
They have a lot of similarities but after having drawn the 2, they are definitely not similar. Minish cap Link have a prettier face in my opinion, he is also skinnier than WW Link and the hair is quite different.

But yeah I agree their design is quite similar, especially the body.

Are Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks any good? When they released I remember they seemed to go down quite well with fans or reviewers, but they look to have a bad rep now.
