So basically "we fixed all the problems that even novice designers were able to point out, but staunch W8 fans denied existing but rather blamed it on stubbornness?"

Because we know W8 doesn't have usability problems, you people just didn't want to learn it/watch random youtube video on where stuff is/too dumb to understand Windows 8.

Really? Can you find me examples of people who said Windows 8 was perfect? I don't think anyone ever said Windows 8 couldn't be improved, I certainly never said that. Most of the back and forth was about people who said the OS was completely unusable which is when they might be pointed in the direction of learning how to the use the OS.

OT, the new search looks fantastic.

Guess they didn't learn their lesson from the last anti trust suit
Microsoft does not have a monopoly in the computing market anymore and their anti-trust regulations ended a few years ago.
It's sounding good. I've had the Win8 upgrade version for months now that I got from a cheap student deal but never installed. When is the update going live?
Edit- wait i have the full version sweeeet
Preview on the 26th

I would seriously pay money for this update. So glad I don't have to. Thanks for the hard work you guys are putting into this MS.

Hope I'll be able to use the search charm in the photo app to be able to find a photo by name. Doesn't work in windows 8 currently.

This is a pretty big improvement on the functionality and flexibility of Metro apps:

Windows 8.1 brings variable, continuous size of snap views. You will have more ways to see multiple apps on the screen at the same time. You can resize apps to any size you want, share the screen between two apps, or have up to three apps on each screen if you have multiple displays connected, you can have different Windows Store apps running on all the displays at the same time and the Start Screen can stay open on one monitor. This makes multi-tasking even easier. Also in Windows 8.1, you can have multiple windows of the same app snapped together – such as two Internet Explorer windows.

They still control 90-95% of the desktop and laptop PC market depending on who's counting. The regulations ended because they expired, the original antitrust resolution agreement was for 10 years of monitoring or something to that effect. Either way, it's unlikely MS would go back to doing anything like what got them into the antitrust crosshairs in the first place. They are still accountable to the US and EU in addition to their shareholders not to screw up again.

with tablets and smartphones microsoft probably has something like 50% of the computing market.

My only concern there is do they still support the default snap because as a Developer, you want to have a set ratio to support.

From what I can tell running regular Windows 8 apps on 8.1, the existing snapped state continues working, and the new "gradual" snapped state is there "for free" without developers making any changes. Though developers will have the freedom to customize more heavily what their apps look like in those different states, I think.

Sounds good. Thanks!

Still $100+ price tag? :\

Kinda want 8 for the kernel updates and other behind the scenes updates, and the new interface doesn't bother me, but I can't justify $100+ for it.

$100? I thought it was only available as an upgrade? And I only paid about $30-40 for the upgrade, and to me that seemed worth it.

No side loading of Metro applications means I'm not spending a single penny on this. It's nice that some of their moronic UI decisions are sort of getting corrected but that was my primary sticking point and they are not going to do anything about it.

Those were promotional prices for the launch window, the upgrade is now more expensive.

Keep in mind for those you you in college, you might be able to get it for free through your school.

Oh wow, I didn't know they bumped the price up that much. So glad I got it on launch (even if I had to endure some issues). Sucks that it's far more expensive now though :/

Is there any improvement to the native W8 apps? 90% of them are ATROCIOUS and are the very definition of style over substance. Every time I open up the options menu for any of them I get depressed.

seems like all of them are getting updated. Only a few of them haven't been updated since launch anyway (photos, store)

How does one downgrade to Win7 without reinstalling from scratch?
