dLMN8R, anything on fixing the network connections?
So basically "we fixed all the problems that even novice designers were able to point out, but staunch W8 fans denied existing but rather blamed it on stubbornness?"
Because we know W8 doesn't have usability problems, you people just didn't want to learn it/watch random youtube video on where stuff is/too dumb to understand Windows 8.
Microsoft does not have a monopoly in the computing market anymore and their anti-trust regulations ended a few years ago.Guess they didn't learn their lesson from the last anti trust suit
Preview on the 26thIt's sounding good. I've had the Win8 upgrade version for months now that I got from a cheap student deal but never installed. When is the update going live?
Edit- wait i have the full version sweeeet
Then you should have bought it when it was $15 and then $40.
Then I'm still not interested.
Windows 8.1 brings variable, continuous size of snap views. You will have more ways to see multiple apps on the screen at the same time. You can resize apps to any size you want, share the screen between two apps, or have up to three apps on each screen if you have multiple displays connected, you can have different Windows Store apps running on all the displays at the same time and the Start Screen can stay open on one monitor. This makes multi-tasking even easier. Also in Windows 8.1, you can have multiple windows of the same app snapped together – such as two Internet Explorer windows.
Sounds good. Are current Windows 8 users getting this update for free?
Microsoft does not have a monopoly in the computing market anymore and their anti-trust regulations ended a few years ago.
with tablets and smartphones microsoft probably has something like 50% of the computing market. They still control 90-95% of the desktop and laptop PC market depending on who's counting. The regulations ended because they expired, the original antitrust resolution agreement was for 10 years of monitoring or something to that effect. Either way, it's unlikely MS would go back to doing anything like what got them into the antitrust crosshairs in the first place. They are still accountable to the US and EU in addition to their shareholders not to screw up again.
This is a pretty big improvement on the functionality and flexibility of Metro apps:
My only concern there is do they still support the default snap because as a Developer, you want to have a set ratio to support.
From what I can tell running regular Windows 8 apps on 8.1, the existing snapped state continues working, and the new "gradual" snapped state is there "for free" without developers making any changes. Though developers will have the freedom to customize more heavily what their apps look like in those different states, I think.
Still $100+ price tag? :\
Kinda want 8 for the kernel updates and other behind the scenes updates, and the new interface doesn't bother me, but I can't justify $100+ for it.
$100? I thought it was only available as an upgrade? And I only paid about $30-40 for the upgrade, and to me that seemed worth it.
Those were promotional prices for the launch window, the upgrade is now more expensive.
Keep in mind for those you you in college, you might be able to get it for free through your school.
Wait, isn't the start menu going back? Because I could have sworn I read the Telegraph saying so.
Windows Phone was like that at first but they later included Google.
In other words, wait for Apollo.
Sounds good. Are current Windows 8 users getting this update for free?
Sweetness!
That integrated skydrive as if it was just another drive on the machine sounds ACE.
Start button. The button, not the menu.
I like W8 as is...
so this sounds good. Can't wait until it starts to roll out.
seems like all of them are getting updated. Only a few of them haven't been updated since launch anyway (photos, store)Is there any improvement to the native W8 apps? 90% of them are ATROCIOUS and are the very definition of style over substance. Every time I open up the options menu for any of them I get depressed.
How does one downgrade to Win7 without reinstalling from scratch?
Should I pick this up for 70 or stick with seven?
You cannot.
