I got nothing. I think att is blocking this update, but then again the poster above is unlocked and hasn't gotten anything. How dumb that its on a rolling basis again and they say it could take weeks when that would push it right up against the timeline for the no do update.

Shhiiiittttt I already said I expect to hit this weekend without an update again. Quite frankly I'm over it. Nothing I can do, and I don't want to pay to jump ship. So I'm just riding it out. I''ll think twice about going this route again though when my contract is up again.

My phone just told me there was an update available. I was thinking "wooot? I didn't expect No-Do this early.... niiiiiiiice" to then see it was just the pre-update update.

That's one more update than some of us here, and you'll probably get the no-do update before some of us do as well.

I have no faith in getting the pre-update. I just hope MS is right about the carriers only being able to block one update. I've always thought it was bs, carriers can do what they want, and so far I've been proven correct.

Indeed..

At least I'm "sticking it" to at&t by using HSUPA on their network.. that makes me feel a little better.

My focus has far faster network speeds than the Atrix 4G I returned..

Unlocked != unbranded. My Optimus 7 was unlocked when I bought it, but I received the update when I flashed the unbranded rom.
Well, how can I do the same on my Focus?

Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if some users don't get the update in March...

I know Messenger by Miyowa isn't the perfect IM client, but someone mentioned they would update on March 1. Yesterday I rememberd there has been no update, so I decided to check their website to see what's up:

Um….sorry guys, I’ve (me, Mairi) messed up…

*wince* *blush* *hang head to avoid all the rotten veg getting thrown at it* Really sorry guys, I’ve messed up. The update it not coming tomorrow but will take another few days. I stupidly checked only the dev schedule to see when the next version would be ready - but forgot to look at the testing team. So, I’m really sorry – I announced it too soon, and it’ll actually take another few days of testing before we can get it in to the Marketplace.

Dunno about you guys, but I'm expecting good things about this update. Bummer we have to wait, but I'm patient like a Jedi, so whatever.

I think you'll be disappointed. There won't be really good things as it's currently not possible to develop a "good" IM client.

I was playing around with my new Focus last night (class 2 Sandisk 16 GB card inserted with no problems so far). I must say the screen is absolutely beautiful. Also the weight of the phone is also great (i.e. light). The OS is very very slick and easy to use.

I am no so happy how the OS compiles all the contact info from Gmail, Facebook, etc., and just lists without any sorting, which leads to duplicate names. Also, having a separate e-mail tile for service could be done with just with one "email" tile.

I also tried to download some podcasts using the phone, but it was telling me that I need to do so via computer...is this true?

Where can I download some lock-screen wallpapers, btw?

You can link contacts either on the phone or in Windows Live, that way you won't have a bunch of independent contacts for the same person. It should auto-link for the most part if the names match up.

Just as PG2G said, you can link all contacts up together. If you click on contact if they have similar name they will show up as "possible links", you can also link those that have related name (some of my family and friends don't like using real name on their facebook account).

As for SD card, that's the one I have and it was working perfectly for about three or four weeks and then the phone start rebooting randomly (not all the times but enough to be annoying). It was one of the card list as not stable on XDA but everyone have different experience even with the same card. So you might luck out. Anyway, I would keep an eyes on the phone and try to download app only via Zune so you can recover the phone quickly if you have to do a wipe.

Do tell how you got that done, or pm me if you can't post how here.

You need to access the diagnostics menu..

Here's how -

* To enter Diagnosis from the phone dialer: ##634#
* From Diagnosis enter: *#32489#
o (GSM test) Shows the ciphering status and options to enable or disable it.
* Tap the small "Back" button at the bottom of the screen
* Now select:
o Tap: [5] RRC(HSPA) Control
o Tap: [2] Change RRC Revision
o Tap: [3] Release 6(HSDPA/HSUPA)
* Tap End to finish.

I've always wondered. How can you tell if that actually you know worked for you getting the speed bump or not?

Also what's the reasoning it is not on by default?

I used some speed test programs.. and I've noticed my download speeds improved..

Here's an article on the handshake issue w/ at&t -

http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/23/atandts-brewing-hsupa-gate-the-inside-story/

the Focus' default configuration is not to use release 6, which allows HSUPA..

Well, I'm certainly not expecting the next BBM, and I do know of the current lack of socket support, however live tile notifications (among other new features) is a lot better than what we have now.

Microsoft needs to fix this. I want Whatsapp in this cellphone.

Sigh. I want an app that can point me in the direction of a set of coordinates.
But of course, Microsoft doesn't allow access to the compass API, so none of the apps actually work very well.

I don't understand why they wouldn't allow something like this.

Its not that they don't allow it, its just that it hasn't been done... Yet. Most of the missing API aren't because Microsoft has some prohibitive rule or policy, like the rest of the OS, things just aren't done.

We know we'll be hearing about new APIs in April, hopefully they tackle the big ones early

owner of a samsung omnia 7 here & whilst i am pretty damn happy with it, considering the upgrade from the g1 i used to own, i'm sort of doubting samsung's commitment to upgrading their hardware. probably should've seen the signs. such a shame too as the phone itself is incredible, just wish they'd release that new firmware officially. i've had no end of trouble trying to install the 'leaked' version as i've a macbook pro & even running windows in boot camp stops me from connecting the phone.
anyone else had trouble/experience connecting the omnia to a boot camped windows 7? zune works fine, just can't get the leaked firmware process to work at all.

Does your diagnostic menu stay? I've noticed it has stayed in my app list.

Aside from that, did anyone use the tweak to up the volume on Samsung phones via the diagnostic menu? I didn't change a value on it, but it seems the volume has increased a lot. Pretty weird.

It unlocks the diagnosis application.. I even got an update to the app one time lol..

Well HD7 owners if you want to improve your radio, you should head over to the xda forums and download the current roms that are available to you. I just did my Tmous HD 7 and the battery thus far is lasting a bit longer. Too bad there isn't a way to un-brand it yet (Tmous)

I suggest everyone to check out Seles Games apps:

Especially Game News Now. Pretty handy for quickly reading the latest news for your consoles, handhelds and WP7 games.

Windows Phone News and TechCrunch are great as well.

I have Game News Now and it's pretty great. There was a recent update that made it even better.

Still waiting for the pre-nodo update notification for my Samsung Focus

if you flash a simlocked phone with an unbranded rom, does it unlock the phone to any network? Or do I still have to ring up Orange or whoever to get the unlock key?

So has anyone who didn't get the update the first time around gotten a notification since they resumed it?

Also, anybody on att who hasn't messed with their rom gotten the update yet?

I'm seeing absolutely no action on this, so I assume att just straight up blocked the pre update.

Who says though? I'm as skeptical as anyone, but how can we know since AT&T is the only carrier for the focus? Maybe they just haven't gotten the fix totally done yet so MS isn't pushing it out to everyone in mass yet?

I've yet to actually hear the initial issue with the Samsung firmware has been fixed so I see no reason to jump on AT&T for this.

That's why in asking, there are LG quantum and surround phones too, so I'm asking if anybody with those phones (unmodified) has gotten the updates on att.

I've been out of the Windows 7 loop for a while now. When's multi tasking coming? And is there anything in the pipe for T-mobile soon?
3rd party multitasking is coming toward the end of the year with the mango update. And i don't know of anything new for T-Mobile, they already have a few WP7 phones though.

Price drops in Canada. Focus is now $0 on 3 years, Optimus 7 is $29.99 on 3 years, and 7 Surround is $29.99 as well on 3 year.

Well if Rogers users are getting the update, it's just AT&T.

Rumors mill says the Focus will be getting the Pre-Nodo and Nodo update on Monday (7th).
That means that the pre update was blocked and ms will likely push no do out instead. Maybe ms was right about only blocking one update. Either way, its good news for me if true, since I get back from my mini vacation on Sunday. I was worried the update would come while I was away and I'd have to wait.

Haha, wow.

Does anyone know the original values for the sound increase? Like I said before, I didn't touch anything on it, but I noticed an increase. I usually keep my phone at 20, but it seems like it's around 25. I restarted it earlier and it went back to normal, but it has since changed to the louder part. I don't really mind it, just kind of an annoyance. Would like to see if my values match up with the original. Samsung Focus, btw.

I 90% agree. Though there is a small chance Rogers just took the fixed update and pushed it out where as AT&T wanted a new round of testing with the new firmware to make sure it was fixed since they were the ones having to deal with people bringing in bricked phones.

All signs point to AT&T cock blocking us though seeing Quantum and Surround users posting.

FFS if your not Apple AT&T is like fuck you.

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully they won't be able to disable this feature in an update. That would really suck.

I won't believe it until I hear anything official, but Thurrott is stating that the Mango update isn't coming this year.

Windows Phone fans will need to wait for the v2 release of Windows Phone 7, code-named Mango, to get a major functional update. Mango will be finalized by the end of 2011, and while Microsoft recently promised to ship this release to customers by the end of the year as well, my sources tell me that schedule is a near impossibility. Mango will include Internet Explorer (IE) 9 with partial HTML 5 support, better multitasking functionality, and more, Microsoft says.

Maybe Microsoft will have more information at MIX in a month.

Man what is up with all the delays and what not? Microsoft's promised service packs couldn't come earlier? I mean they're the king of service packs you would think they had this figured out by now.

Hopefully 2012 an the Nokia partnership helps boost Phone 7 on the right track again.

Mary-Jo Foley can't confirm this.
Meanwhile, Windows Phone Secrets author Paul Thurrott has said that he hears it will be next-to-impossible for Microsoft to roll out its second major WP7 update this year. That release, codenamed “Mango,” includes IE 9 Mobile, among other new features.

Unlike Thurrott, I didn’t write a book about Windows Phone 7. In fact, I’m still using a loaner device, since there is no WP7 on Verizon. But I will say I am hearing that Microsoft recently promised its OEMs and carriers that they will get the Mango bits by early fall at the latest, enabling them to ship WP7 phones running Mango in time for holiday 2011. So unless Microsoft has gone back very recently and told those partners “Just kidding!” — I still am betting we’ll see WP7s running Mango in 2011.

And not to get any hopes up, but the NoDo update could be pushed out on Monday. At least that's what Rivera said.
File this under rumor but plausible: Raphael Rivera of ChevronWP7 and who seems to have an inside track with Microsoft (see the Arrive prediction), is claiming that the AT&T Focus should be getting both the pre-NoDo and NoDo update this Monday.
