I'm on AT&T, OF COURSE I haven't gotten the prompt. I fully expect every other carrier to get the update before we do, sometime in April.

go to xda and get a jelly filled one.
There's no ROM for the Optimus 7.

My phone is not tied to a carrier anymore and I still don't get that prompt.

Ah I see, I guess the nodo update from XDA is only for those of us who have an HD7 then.
NoDo roms leaked for every HTC device, except the Surround, I think.

Anyone with the update - can you confirm if the responsiveness of the keyboard is improved? For me, especially in text message threads with a ton of history, I need to type extremely slowly just to get the phone to accurately recognize what I'm typing.

Actually that may be a reason they would hold the update back.. to push a new phone.

This doesn't make sense - WinPhone7 came out in November and I doubt AT&T is looking for those users to upgrade to a new phone. It hasn't even been 6 months.

Hey I'm thinking of getting an Optimus 7 in a few days... Current phone is a Nokia N95 8GB, so I don't care about a lot of stuff WP7 is missing right now. But what do you think of the phone? Are you glad you chose it? I would get an Omnia 7, but it's about £50 more expensive, and apparently changing the memory to 16GB is a major pain.

Focus on AT&T and nothing yet.

This is the worst part of rolling updates. :( I really hope AT&T doesn't take long (as in, I really hope I get it this week, if not today).

It's a good phone with a solid build quality. The camera could be better, but that's it. I kinda regret buying it, because I could get the Omnia 7 8GB for the same price now (it was 100 bucks more expensive in December), but I just saw that I'm already running out of storage (4GB left), so I'm glad at the same time. I think the Omnia7 the better phone (SAMOLED screen ftw), but that doesn't make the Optimus 7 any worse. Oh, and you can't upgrade the storage on the Omnia 7.

Here's the Engadget review, if it helps:
8/10

The good:
Outstanding fit and finish
Generously sized battery
Play To media streaming legitimately useful

The bad:
Generic LCD is a step behind Super screens
Awkward microUSB port cover
Smallish power button

We feel somewhat odd giving such a high grade to a device that really brings nothing new to the table in terms of hardware. LG might be making gorgeous retina displays for a certain other phone maker, but that IPS goodness is nowhere to be seen here. The camera is also only mediocre, while the internal spec can be had on literally any other Windows Phone 7 device. What's really got us hooked, however, is the inescapable feeling of a quality piece of mobile kit. From the very first time we picked it up, the Optimus 7 has been delighting us with its look and feel and that emotional connection just refuses to go away. It's a minimalist interpretation of what the best possible Windows Phone should be like, and its small stylistic flourishes are augmented with an almost perfect record of intelligent design decisions. Throw in the actually valuable Play To media streamer and the fun Panorama Shot from LG's own software labs, and you get a very competent contender. It's hard to quite crown it the finest WP7 launch device -- after all, Samsung's Omnia 7 has a bigger and significantly better display -- but the LG Optimus 7 might just be the one we most enjoyed using.

I've never had that problem, and I won't be able to report that as my text history has been wiped clean

Can't you just use the Verizon Trophy with Sprint? I mean, both are CDMA networks, right?
Nope. That's not how it works unless you were to ESN swap with a known Sprint phone, which is considered illegal.

CDMA networks hold a repository of what phones are good/bad and network origin. The smaller networks using CDMA (i.e. Cricket) don't care about the ESN #, but the bigger ones do, so if someone steals a major carrier CDMA phone, the original customer can report the ESN bad, and that phone is forever banned on major CDMA network carriers.

•Other Marketplace improvements. We've improved the stability of Marketplace while you download apps. We've also improved the experience of downloading apps larger than 20 megabytes, upgrading from trial apps to paid apps, using a credit card with an address outside the United States, sharing links to apps via email, sorting Xbox LIVE games by release date, and creating an Xbox LIVE account from within the Games Hub.
Does this mean what I think it means?

So I can finally stop begging for MS Points and start buying dem apps?

Wow, the 29th? That sucks. Oh well,it's a date, but then again that whole 4 week thing sounds like another cover for delay.

Mr. Thurrot was correct, the NoDo update is indeed coming to the rest of us in April. Another fail by Microsoft Windows Phone 7 team

Indeed. Ha! My first copy and paste:)

But they said that they'd start the roll out in the second half, and the 29th is still March.

I'll just refer my stance back to this quote which I fully 110% stand behind.

So much for you pay for what you get.

If I could get service from Sprint at my lake house I'd switch in a heart beat. Since I can't though I'm basically stuck with AT&T or Verizon which price wise are basically the same.

I gave up waiting. Plus...when will there be a 4g windows 7 phone for Verizon?
There will be a WP7 with 4G when the OS supports it. Maybe later this year, maybe 2012.

btw, it looks like NFC could a a device specific feature.
A person familiar with new iterations of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform said a partner handset manufacturer is also exploring adding this technology to the next version of a Microsoft mobile phone. This person also said the new partnership with Nokia and Microsoft could catapult this technology into the mainstream as Nokia has said in the past that it plans to add N.F.C. technology to all its new phones in 2011.

well, for this specific feature the iPhone 5 won't have NFC or be 4G, so that comparison doesn't make much sense.

Welcome to the bandwagon! More and more people are getting on the MS needs to get it's shit together bandwagon everyday! :)

its a shame..i'm losing faith.

2 years from now when I'm eligible for a new phone Windows might not even be a part of the equation.

It's likely that Microsoft's partners are going to release the second generation for this holiday season, so the iPhone 5 will be out before that anyway. The fact that Nokia is going to use Windows Phone for their CDMA handsets might push LTE for the WP platform, but those aren't coming this year.

edit:
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the phased roll-out in a statement to WinRumors on Tuesday:

“We’ve begun to gradually roll out the Copy & Paste update, starting small with open market phone customers in parts of Europe this week. More to come.”
Bah, screw you. iOS 4.3.1 will be out before most WP7 users have NoDo.

I'd be pretty surprised if the second generation WP7 handsets didn't have support for HSPA+, WiMax, and LTE.

I would be to because at the rate MS is moving they won't be out till next century.

The lack of features, communication, updates and bugfixes are all getting really annoying.

Also I just noticed a Nokia N8 advert on my xbox360 dashboard :S

Yup. I've pretty much all but decided I'm jumping ship to an iPhone 4 or 5 in june.

OK. This NoDo update thing is just getting ridiculous. How about just letting the users download the shit over the net? This is really really pathetic. Absolutely horrible.

As a small (and dumb) form of protest, I've gone back to using my Gingerbread Nexus One until the No-Do update comes out. First, because this update business is starting to frustrate me irl, which is silly when you think about it. And second because I can stick it to AT&T simultaneously by utilizing the free tethering and non-market app installation features of my N1 (to install the newly released Amazon app store, for instance).

That said, I won't be able to fully kick the Focus to the curb. I'll lug it around for podcasts and music, so it'll be like a Zune HD until the update comes out. At least making this switch, I can care less about the update, and let it come whenever the idiots at AT&T and on the WP7 team see fit for me to get it on my device.

They should take a cue from HTC and let those ROM's leak out so the whiny power users can get the update themselves and stop flooding the WP7 blog with angry comments. I know I'd download a No Do Rom if it was available for the Focus at xda.

This boggles my mind. They never should have given you guys a date at all. The amount of expectation has made many of ya a little stir crazy. Take your eyes off those laser scopes and go RUN and buy a donut...or two. Chill out and enjoy the day.

Unlike the iPhone, carriers have way more customization and special-features specific to their devices that they need to test out. While there is a generic unbranded ROM (which I really hope would leak out for the Focus!), most users have to wait until the carriers take NoDo, repackage it with all of their special features (for example, LG with DLNA), test it, probably test the carriers apps, etc etc.

I really wish there would be one rom that ran on all phones, because that would make it very easy for MS to distribute that (just like how Apple does), but unfortunately it's something they're not in the position to do.

As I've said before, I think MS is hearing the feedback loud and clear and I'm sure they're trying to find ways to make it better. I think people need to just wait it out during these bumps in the road. Mango should be way better I imagine.

*Edit* Also, I agree with Commodore. Maybe they shouldn't have given a date at all until all carriers have finished testing and would be ready for release (likely very similar to how Apple handles their updates... don't talk about them until they're almost ready and AT&T/Verizon are basically done testing). That way the roll-out would be much faster.

While I agree I'm a bit frustrated this is taking a while, I'm not too upset. Hearing some of you guys say you're jumping ship just doesn't make sense to me at all. The platform is absolutely fantastic, and it's getting better with this update, and then Mango. Yes, the process hasn't been smooth, but we're still going to be getting the update which everyone was praising only a few pages ago. I would never jump ship just because MS was having technical troubles for their first update (well, second including the minor first update).

MS isn't too far behind on features, and by the end of this year (or whenever Mango comes out), it's going to be matching iPhone/Android on major features (multi-tasking is probably the biggest one they don't have). iPhone and Android will probably be a bit ahead in features with their updates this year, but if you look at how many features MS is adding to the phone in the first year, it's impressive. Apple took two years to get copy/paste in, and that was a major update (iOS 3.0... it took until the third major version!) whereas for MS it's a minor update. Some may argue that MS should have had this, and maybe they should have, but they really had a huge challenge for their v1 product and wanted to absolutely nail that and not take any chances, and they've been going really fast getting these features in, even if we are starting to get the perception they're going slow. That's really the carriers fault and not MS'.

Anyways, that's my little rant for the day.

It would be fine and good if they have ship a complete OS without bugs and annoying quirk, not to mention they said hey get our phone, we know it's not done but we promise many "meaningful" and "compeling updates" soon.

I am tried of people like you tell us to chill out about the update. I have the phone since release. I am the early adoptor, the very people that will go out and evangelize the phone. The people that are vocal because we are passionate about the platform and want it to stomp the iPhone and the droids because we know that it has potential.

Anyway, I haven't care about the update since their last fail attempt. It come when it comes and by the same token I also no longer recommend or show anyone my phone. People at my work who ask me about smartphone (because they know I love gadgets) I just told them to go get iPhone or android phone. One person who work with me that really like my phone I told her to go out and get the new Droid instead. She's on Verizon and have been waiting for the phone since January. I told her just stop waiting there is no concrete announcement so last month she went and got a droid. Too bad that another Microsoft lost.

By the time Mango come out, iPhone 5 would be way ahead of them (and release earlier too, how sad is that), and by the time they ship the Nokia and next gen phone, iPhone 6 would be on the way and again left them in the dust because Microsoft feel yearly update and slow moving is "good enough" since they are at parity with Apple and Google from three years ago. Apple already planning music subscription, they will probably implement wifi sync and they already got gaming hub and achievements so any advantage Microsoft have is slowly getting adopt by competitor. MS show off awesome IE9 and guess what, no date, just soon or sometime this year, by then Apple would release better browser.

I'm fine, dude. I just had a wonderful dinner with my wife and daughter in our living room. Thanks for the concern, lol. It's mostly when I'm sitting at work bored that I get a little frustrated that my phone isn't updated. I love gadgets, I love Windows Phone overall, I'm obviously a geek, so yeah, that bothers me.

Back at last year's MIX, I heard something similar to the notion that Microsoft could deliver smaller point releases without having to go through carriers or OEMs. Like those small patches that a regular Windows computer gets through Windows Update.

Is this not the case? Almost 5 months to deliver this update seems a bit absurd.

Microsoft also said that Mango wouldn't be affected by this delay, which I'm sure is true because they finished NoDo a while ago. Will Mango have to go through the same hoopla again with carriers and OEMs? Was there any merit to something I heard about carriers only being able to block one update?
