So far, really nice app. Bravo ESPN

So far, no live tile looks like. But I can't imagine ESPN not getting that feature up in subsequent versions for glance and go score updates on the home screen.

I wonder when Windows Phones based on this chipset will be released.

The mobile scene is too silly. A 2-5x improvement in performance over the last chipset that was double the performance of the chipset before it. Someone call me when we slow to 30-40% increases and I'll jump on the smartphone bandwagon.

Why do you want a slowdown?

Oh wow!

I had my SIM out to use in another phone for testing.
Plugged in the WP7, started Zune, and it found the NoDo update.

HTC Surround. It's not unlocked or unbranded at this time.

Whoa, don't know how ya managed that. Us branded AT&T WP7 users are supposed to be last. It'll be a tradition. You somehow managed to evade getting the short straw. O.o (congrats)

In the interest of full disclosure though, I had previously unlocked and unbranded the phone a couple weeks ago to get the Feb. update.

I thought after it rebooted that reset all that I did though.
Especially since I could no longer use the unauthorized apps.

And if you think you will get the mango update you still in denial. Carrier do and will block that update.
hey guess what? it's march and i got the march update.

are you done with your overreaction and fear mongering now? still think i won't get the mango update either?

not usually a prick but dude you've been a whinny bitch these past few pages. glad you got the update though.

Ah yeah... rocking NoDo.

Wow, Marketplace popped right up, and those pesky apps whose updates wouldn't download actually worked correctly this time. Don't have to delete and redownload!

EDIT: aaaaaaaand copy and paste is worse than on my iOS devices... ugh.
It's usable at least but not nearly as effective.
I like that the phone feels zipper though.

Whatever dude if I can dish them out I can take them. But if you think the sudden faster pace of update and transparency is not the result of us whining bitches then stay in that happy place and continued to drink Microsoft koolaid.

Also some of us got the update because we hack our phone (if we are on at&t). According to Microsoft they are still testing and to be conclude sometimes in early April. (which doesn't mean people who still have branded phone will get update, who know how long before they schedule it). My feeling is they want to push out HD7s before the update so they can sell that.

Hopefully this is the wake up call they need to actually get this platform going.

You can always put me on ignore trust me it won't hurt my feeling. ;)

I think the phone stay unbranded , it might relock and you won't be able to sideload but as far as Zune is concern it see your phone as no carrier. It still is for me when I use Samsung registry editor to see my carrier string.

Sigh.. whatever. Carry on then. I don't have a wp7 device yet anyways, so I'll bow out.
Hint for future discussions: stop being such a fucking dick.

You're perfectly allowed to ask questions, but if you're being a dick, then don't act all surprised when people are condescending dicks back to you. When so many people on this message board, so many people on every major blog, the most reasonable writers on ArsTechnica, and even Paul Thurrott are unendingly furious, it's obvious that there's substantial weight to the story.

Just curious: has anyone tried using the restore point created when they updated to Nodo on a different or new phone? Is that even possible?

That phone is damn sexy, but holy shit the screen is huge!

So what's the difference between the Trophy and the Surround? They look the same to me.

Check the OP of this thread.

Surround has a speaker thing that you can pull out. The Trophy that coming to Verizon is suppose to have better screen and it is also global phone (have both CDMA and GSM bands) otherwise whatever info in the OP is still apply. It's the most boring phone of the bunch I think.

HD7s is At&t version of T-mobile HD7, suppose to have better screen and it is currently the largest screen of all Win Phone 7. If you don't mind big phone, I think the bigger screen really show off how pretty WinPhone 7 UI is.

Things I notice about No Do so far on my Samsung Focus -

- App definitely faster and home screen that was lagging a bit now very zippy (or it could be because the phone got reboot).

- Marketplace work like a charm.

- copy and paste, work as advertise, though it's a bit annoying sometime to be swiping and end up hightlight the words.

- some of my friends on Facebook that did not show up before on my People screen now show up.

- podcast covers now show up in my Zune app when I browse or listening to my Podcast (use to be just blank tile).

Only have limited time with it but little thing like these that really make the phone experience better and those of you that feel this update is not necessary I challenge you to go back and use 1.0 version and not update. Many of us here have been using the phone since launch and there are somethings that really should have been fix long time ago.

Please don't make fun of those who are excited for the future of windows phone 7

Just as with Zune, I have not met a single person who has a Windows Phone 7 and I have not ever heard anyone talking about it. Most of my friends have iPhones or have recently gotten their first Android devices. Most of the people I see these days are using some kind of Android device. For the record, I live in the Seattle metro area. This is Microsoft's home turf. I have yet to see one person with a Windows Phone 7. The situation was the same with Zune actually, and it's shaping up a lot like WP7 will be like Zune, maybe a few diehard dedicated owners, everyone else already has an iPhone or Android, just like how Zune came out way too late for anybody to notice, they already all had iPods.

You mean after all this time of Android being available you are only just now seeing wider adoption?
Shocking, Google really should have given up when all your friends were using something else 6 months after they launched.

Not saying that WP7 will grow into the success that Android became, but its a little early to judge. Particularly since none of the Nokias stuff has really happened yet.

I want the technology to mature. We aren't going to see annual double, triple, or even five time performance increases indefinitely.

Consider the PC GPU scene. Here's the difference between Nvidia's 480 and 580 cards. It's clearly better, but it's not twice as good. Not even close.

If I'm going to have this device for a couple years, I don't want to think it's a dog after year one. My wife's old iPhone 3G runs like shit in just a iPod Touch capacity. I am under no illusion that the same fate will probably befall her Focus. Perhaps with the Mango update.

The performance in mobile devices is improving too rapidly for me, as a consumer, to feel good about my purchase for anything longer than a couple months. I'd be pissed if I bought an iPad and a year later (less if I didn't buy at launch) a model comes out that absolutely curb stomps mine. There's no longevity in these devices and, at the moment, they're essentially disposable tech that's outdated in one year and obsolete in two.

Is the unbranding and chevron unlock process, used to get the nodo update, also a sim unlock as well? Can the Focus now be used on other carriers?

this happens all the time, everywhere. it needs to to keep purchase momentum happening. how much you're affected by it depends on your sensitivity to new gadgets, features, power & technology.
for example, i bought my macbook pro in september time and since then there's been a spec. upgrade. thankfully for me, it wasn't enough to give me envy but for others it may have been. there will always be something new & shiny to sell.
also i'd argue the 2x performance is very rarely used to its full potential, especially on android phones.

Woah interesting... I hadn't heard this one about NoDo yet.... I have a few missing friends on my phones as just WL contacts now, but it would be nice if their FB stuff actually synced on over instead of the weirdness it is right now.

Man, Adobe and MS have gone silent on Flash for WP7. Its a real wasted opportunity for both of them. Maybe they'll talk about it soon, I'd love to have it when they do the Explorer upgrade later this year.

wtf, strange thing happened to my phone.

Battery was fine, no critical level message, out of nowhere the phone shuts off, no usual goodbye message or anything. Shit my self, thought the screen popped or something. No lights, put battery in and out, noting. I tried to see if it was the charge. Now it's charging for the past 10 minutes but no switching itself on like it usually does, I hope my phone is ok..... :'(

Rogers releasing update for Samsung Focus now.
Couldn't get it last night, hopefully it will work tonight.

For those that have upgraded to NoDo (especially on a Focus), did you have to install the February update before the March one? Or can you just install the NoDo (March) update?

My Focus won't install the February update without timing out and I would like to not have to do a hard reset to get it to work. I'm hoping that I can try to install the March update first before resorting to a reset first.

So you mean to say that phones that have been on the market for years have a wider userbase than a new release?

Paul Thurrott mentioned some Mango details in his most recent post

I’m not sure, as I’ve not heard or seen of that little Search button. But for those of you still dazzled by the NoDo feature set (ahem), Mango will come as a bit of a shock: This release will actually include many new features, including of course some that have been publicly discussed, like Internet Explorer 9 (with hardware acceleration and partial HTML 5 standards support), support for more languages, and better enterprise support (today’s Windows Phone offers only a portion of the EAS/enterprise functionality provided by, say, Windows Mobile). There are also unannounced features coming, including background downloading, third party audio enhancements, third party multitasking, and so on.

Its funny because in the past he has said Mango wasn't going to be as big as people expected.

I am talking about the what's new stuff on my People hub. They seems to sync better now, before it would just be few people now all the contact and Facebook page show up regularly. I still have 1 guy that still not showing up on my contact list.

Lame! I thought it was gonna fix my random issue. I have like 2 random contacts that didn't FB sync over, and it just bugs me. :P

The same thing apparently happened to mine the day before last. I look over at it and see the at&t world phone logo, etc.

First time I recall it happening. At first I thought it was some sort of OTA update. Maybe it's actually part of their testing? Timing seems weird

Sorry, I have one guy who still not sync over. I am thinking I will unfriend and then re-friend him see if that will fix the problem...

Well for me after I unbranded it and connect to Zune it told me to get pre-No Do, and after that was done. I disconnect it and reconnect and it told me there is another update. I didn't have to do the turning off wifi or disconnect my internet trick that other have to do. I am thinking may be MS is pushing out to all the unbranded phone including Focus. Mine install without a hitch, the first update did take awhile but second one was finish so fast. (I guess less stuff to back-up).

Did you have Sd card install? and how much space you have on your Focus and computer? I have only 3gb left on my Focus (no SD card) but plenty of space on my computer.

I don't have an SD card installed, more than 4GB free on the Focus and have around 100GB of space available on the PC. I have no idea why the February update keeps timing out, but it appears that many Focus owners have the same problem.

I am going to try to install the NoDo update directly without loading the pre-NoDo update first. If there is no way to do that, I will resort to a factory reset.

Forgot to add that my phone was in the plane mode, not sure if that make any differences.

So I solved my dilemma—I'm getting a WP7 device through work and getting an iPhone for home.

I am undecided on whether to get the Focus or Surround. I am considering the Surround because of build quality and storage. Thoughts?

I'd get the HD7S if you're thinking AT&T and HTC.

Just read that I'll probably not get NoDo before the End of April. I'll go to the o2 store tomorro. My phone is pretty buggy and has lots of problems so I'll give o2 the chance to fix all of them. Since there's no way o2 can fix the Marketplace without the NoDo update, they'll not be able to give me a working product. Not being able to give me a working product means I'll get my money back.

Guess I'll get a Omnia 7 then. :p

Easy way to upgrade to nodo (sort of)

Start Zune
Turn off Data connection and Wifi on the Phone
Connect the Phone with the PC (USB)
Start the update search in Zune
About 3 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet (Turn WLAN off).
Zune finds NoDo-Update. Press OK.
Connect to the internet again and install the update.

Step 5 depends on the computer. Just keep trying, took me about 15 tries. And make sure you re-enable your internet before you click update.

You're welcome.

I tried lots of times with locked focus. No luck

You have to time it perfectly. When you first plug the phone into zune it should take a lot longer than pressing the update button a bunch of times. For me it took about 13 seconds for the update button to finish loading, from there I turned off the wifi after 12 seconds.

my update button finds and loads the version data in about 6 seconds in zune

Edit. make that 3 seconds. it comes back as up to date 7.04 or can not connect

Your focus needs to be dev unlocked/unbranded to get any updates if you're on at&t currently.

It does not have to be sim unlocked.
