Winter is Coming to Canada, GoT to air on network TV uncensored - CTV Aug 8th

Winter is coming a little early this year for Canadian TV viewers.

CTV – Canada’s most watched network – has announced that it will be airing season 1 of Game of Thrones starting at the beginning of August, bringing the series to an even bigger audience. This is the Canadian equivalent of CBS announcing that Game of Thrones would be airing on its summer TV schedule.

The major difference is that in Canada, Game of Thrones can air completely uncensored. That’s right, season 1 is about to air on network TV the exact same way it did on HBO, per the press release from Bell Media, “all 10 episodes are set to air intact, unedited, and with reduced commercial time to further enhance the viewer experience”.

This is not the first time that an American premium cable show that would never air on network TV in the States, has done so north of the border. Showtime’s The Tudors was in fact a co-production with the CBC, and all for seasons aired on the CBC, which is Canada’s government-funded public TV station.

CTV has already promised that there will be strong viewer discretion warnings before every episode and the press release is quick to point out that the show is not meant for children.

As a kid I remember picking up Canadian TV stations on my antenna here in the US and being surprised at the late night nudity.

CityTV was basically softcore porn after midnight during the 90s.

Stuff like The Sopranos and Nip/Tuck also aired uncensored on Canadian broadcast.

Yeah, Canadian broadcast is pretty much fair game after 9PM. CityTV was the king of unfettered broadcasts, baby blue baby!

But we already have HBO Canada? Well at least I can why the series from the start again, so much freaking happens in those earlier seasons.

So it's like the time they aired the Sopranos uncut for a few weeks in the summer years ago.
If only they'd use the money they're going to get to fund their own shows.

CityTV probably had more 10-11 year olds watching at midnight during weekend sleepovers than they did on Saturday mornings.

Bell really is retarded; if they think this will stop people from pirating Game of Thrones, I have a bridge to sell them. Seriously, we are going onto Season 7, nobody wants to watch Season 1 over the Air... what we want is HBO Now so that we can pay to stream it over the internet without needing a cable subscription.

yeah, i think they show 1 porn every night around 2:30am or 3:00am ...somewhere around that time.

i've fast forwarded thru a few of them, and while it is your typical hardcore porn, i don't think they ever show a money shot ...or backdoor action for that matter.

so while it's hardcore ...its still somewhat tamer than your typical XXX, from what i've seen.



anyway, its pretty good for Bell to be showing this uncut. good for them.

I remember watching Showgirls totally uncensored on CTV when I was younger, glad to see they haven't changed over the years.

Yeeah, it was kind of a bad thing for night-owl me growing up to find straight-up porn on air at like 3 in the morning when I was like eight years old, (bad in that it caused some weird things to happen to me mentally.) But it's super cool that they're showing Game of Thrones, though. I think a lot of people will be tuning in.

At least you had to wait until 3AM or raid your dad's secret penthouse stash. Today's 8 year olds just punch a word or two into the search bar of the browser on their phones/tablets.

Hell city TV used to have a show called sextv that was on all kinds of sex topics, they even did one on cam girls when that was still in it's infancy. Still remember that, like burned into my mind.

Btw, anyone not wanting to read the article, they are airing the show at 10pm.

CBC and CBC french used to show movies uncensored late night, especially the french channel where sometimes they show old exploitation flicks. Good times....

Yep. CityTV would pretty much air any film uncensored regardless of language or nudity.

This is pretty big news, can't wait! CTV is huge in Canada, literally everyone gets it, and the entire first season is unedited. Perfection.

Why? Between 9pm and 6am we have late viewing period as defined by the code of ethics of the Canadian association of broadcasters. It's not like GoT is crazy violent crazy sexual or crazy vulgar compared to a lot of other things.
