Love the good ol Midwest

Almost a complete whiteout here in the Buffalo area. No point in going out at all especially if it's just going to get worse.

Be safe everyone.

Just got back home from work. Good thing I missed the bus this morning and drove. Would have frozen on my way back from the bust stop in the evening. Feels like -35 outside right now.

Rush Limbaugh is starting off the New Year the same as always: bashing the media.

The radio talk show host accused the media of manipulating the recent "cold snap" to put the blame on human influence in order to further propel their global warming "agenda."

"Right on schedule, the media have to come up with a way to make it [the cold snap] sound like it's completely unprecedented," Limbaugh said, "because they've got to find a way to attach this to the global warming agenda."

In August, Limbaugh sparked controversy when he stated that anyone who believes in God "cannot believe in man-made global warming." His recent statements expanded on his previous claims:

"They're [liberals] perpetrating a hoax," he said. "They are relying on their total dominance of the media to lie to you each and every day about climate change and global warming."

Limbaugh noted that media outlets have created a "polar vortex" to exaggerate the harsh weather conditions by publishing "fraudulent pictures," including photographs of the North Pole "melting" in order to convince people that "we're responsible -- we're causing it."

"Any weather extreme now is said to be man-made and therefore it fulfills the leftist agenda," he added. "Obviously there is no melting of ice going on at the North Pole."

Limbaugh's comments contradict a FAIR survey released in December which showed that while reports of extreme weather are increasing in the media, mentions of "climate change," "global warming" or "greenhouse gases" remain scarce.

wow.. he put "polar vortex" in quotes...

Where I am here in Texas, our all time low is 15 for this date and we tied it this morning and it was windy. Growing up in Michigan, 15 didn't seem cold, but damn I was cold being outside today. I couldn't imagine going back to -20 and windchills of -40.....no fucking way.

I remember the feeling when it gets back up to 30 after being -20, and you think, time to take the coat off and put on my shorts....

Ohio is being hit quite hard up north. Has caused me to get a massive delay of my new film equipment which kind of blows but I predicted that i'd be playing the waiting game with UPS due to the weather.

So hope everyone is managing fine. Get ready for tomorrow. Going to be just as fun as today.

Yes, we are getting hit quite hard. It's so cold my cable/Internet died.

Can you shut off the vents in any extra rooms?

Tried that but it's only 3 rooms basically and the vents don't seal well when closed. Crazy cold in the bedroom with the windows. Been here for two years but it just seems it wasn't ever built to deal with these temps.

I live in Ann Arbor. Looks like we're getting upwards to 12" of snow with temps reaching as low as -20F on Monday. I'm actually pretty excited.

I live twenty minutes from A^2.

Suffice it to say, this Monday sucked. Shoveling snow with the wind chill at -30 is invigorating for the first ten minutes, but then your snot makes a frozen stream to your upper lip and the tips of your fingers become temporarily molded where they grip the shovel and ... yeah.

Get to a shelter if you can Kagari. Are you able to or did the mayor there declare no driving at all period? In either case best of luck. I won't come in here and bitch about ice being on all my front windows and my office being cold as hell now. At least I have power godspeed.

My buddy down by Livonia is saying the roads are still unpassable, but I gotta figure they have to have at least gotten the freeways around Detroit decent. Right?

I haven't ventured out since Saturday night cuz of the flu...so we'll see what's in store today.

Can't tell if sarcasm.

I'm basing this off of the fact of my college town being under a level 3 snow emergency. Bowling Green always gets hit hard. So does Toledo. But we don't talk about Toledo.

Nope, wasn't sarcasm. I think a cable snapped in the cold last night. It's working today, though.

Some of my coworkers are stuck in BG right now.

Odd. Never heard of cable wires snapping. I've been lucky to not been hit with much but just cold temps since i'm in Mid-Ohio right now at home.

I don't head back to BG till the end of this week but I have a few friends who live in town so i'm kind of feeling bad for them. Can't imagine your coworkers are better off than them. I don't even think campus itself has been faring well since it has been closed due to the weather the past 2 days....

I will never buy a 2wd truck again. 4x4 with an extra set of winter tires w/ studs is the way to go. Our road is a solid sheet of ice, doesn't matter how much tread you have you're not going anywhere without studs.

Yeah, they are decent. Drove back to Chicago from Detroit today and it was much better than Sunday at least.

Hilarious post Maninthemirror. Thanks for that.

The only thing I'll say though is that Minnesotans from the Southern half of the state are just posers. They freak out and cancel schools over temps that the true Minnesotans from the North experience on a regular basis.

What was it like -10 today in the Twin Cities? Hah, sounds like good snowmobile riding weather to me.

I'll give props to Northern Wisconsin folks as well. You guys are legit.

Had my car parked here in Madison from saturday night through last night. Went to move my car and it started in under a second. Thank god I got that new battery and filled my tank up with a bottle of Isoheat.

My car won't start, but I was out driving today. Roads are still terrible. Even the major roads in my city look like they got one truck to go over them once and then called it quits.

Well, low temperatures continue and I was a complete idiot yesterday night. Children, don't be lazy and take your shopping inside immediately.

It's been around -25 with wind chill all this week, and I honestly feel this cold is a lot more brutal than the -40 a couple weeks ago.
